  1. I have an assembly of surfaces in VWT, and would like to rotate a group of these surfaces that make up a wing. The problem is that I would like to rotate about the quarter chord in each case, but by default rotation is being made about the centroid. Is there a way to change the point about which rotation is made in VWT? Thanks in advance for any advice!

  3. A propeller shaft experiences opposing torques on its ends, while rotating. What types of analyses are generally carried out on a propeller shaft, apart from static, modal, fatigue? What are the reversing loads to be given in a fatigue analysis? (The only reversing force that comes to my mind is the shaft's self weight, acting sinusoidally. Are there any other reversing loads in a rotating shaft?)

    Hello Guys, I have a working model of a composite helicopter blade. I have extracted the modal frequencies of the blade. I want to know if there is a way to find out at what rotational speeds will the blade reach any of those modal frequencies? is there a way to do this on hyperworks? Kind Regards, Mohamed
  5. Hi everyone, I'm conducting coupled thermal/structural stress analysis using Optistruct. As structural loads, I have spcs (load collector:spc) and a rotational force (load collector:rotation using RFORCE as card image).As a thermal load I've linear temperature on the nodes belonging to one surface. For the thermal stress analysis, I've created another load collector named 'temperature' and then I've defined on the nodes linear temperature using the temperatures panel. The load type was set to TEMP according to tutorial OS-1100: Thermal Stress Analysis of a Printed Circuit Board with Anisotropic Material Properties. Then for the load step, I'm creating a single load step using analysis type 'linear static' defining the spcs and loads(rotation) and in the TEMP section I'm choosing 'temperatures' from the load collectors. However I become the following error: *** ERROR # 4800 *** Grid 15361 connected to element 44763 has no temperature specified in load set 3. To apply zero temperature on this grid, SYSSETTING,undeftemp,zero needs to be added to the deck. Can anyone help me solving this problem? Best Regards Mert

  7. Hello, in my analysis of a curve-drive-part is a rotation as SPC, solids for the curve-part (red) and a rigid-spider (blue) to transfer the rotation displacement to the solids. I use an NLGEOM-analysis, because i want to simulate the contact between the other parts (not in picture) and the curve-part. In this analysis the curve-part shows a strange deformation and the contact force is going very high. There is no constraint or force, that explained the deformation. Attached filses: Topf_Start_1 - front view with a distance measure of 211.666 Topf_Start_2 - side view Topf_End_1 - front with a distance measure of 201.110 Topf_End_2 - side view It is a model in optistruct, but for the solving is radioss used, because the large sliding contact. I want to understand possibly failures in the model. greetings Pierre
  8. Hello, I’m currently trying to do a contact analysis of a shaft-hub joint-connection in RADIOSS. The model: Both parts are initially in closed contact with each other in a press-fit joint-connection. The shaft is rotating around its axis with very high velocities and eventually the cylindrical hub detaches from the shaft when a critical rotational velocity is reached or due to fatigue. I would like to simulate that detachment process in RADIOSS and have now come across several problems I can’t find a solution to. ------ Here is what I do: 1. After meshing the geometries with solid elements I create a rigid body at one end of the shaft to apply CLOADS or rotational forces to it. 2. I create a contact surface on the outer surface of the hub and apply a PLOAD all around it to simulate the press-fit connection between the hub and the shaft. 3. Properties and materials are defined for both the rigid and solid elements. 4. I create a Contact between hub and shaft and select the shaft-component as the slave and the hub-component as the master. 5. A local coordinate system is placed at the center of the shaft to define the axis of rotation. 6. Next, a rotation should be added to the system, however, that’s when the problems start. - When I try to apply an “initial velocity around an axis” load collector around the shaft axis(local system) I get the error that the wrong reference frame was selected. However, when I select the global system, the error “Direction should be x y or z & right justified” is detected. - When I use an imposed velocity/acceleration, I simply get zero displacements everywhere as if the load collector was not created at all. These errors occur no matter whether the velocity is applied to the rigid or the shaft component itself and with or without a PLOAD collector active or not. -When I applied CLOADs on two sides of the rigid body, thus creating torque, it didn’t work in combination with the applied PLOAD. In another forum entry it was explained that a simultaneous application of multiple loads like that is not possible. Instead they should be applied one after another and in the end the combined effects could be evaluated. However, the results do not show a combined load case like intended. Additionally, the rotation does not continue in one direction only, but bounces back and forth after a while when CLOADS create the torque. ----------------------------------- ----------------------------------- My first question would be whether my intended goal – observing the contact/detachment process between hub and shaft at a critical rotational velocity- is possible to implement in RADIOSS like that or what I would need to adjust to make it work. 2. How can I apply a rotational velocity to the shaft in order to rotate the component in one direction only? 3. Since the hub is supposed to be rotating with the shaft before detaching, what contact is needed to simulate that detachment behavior? I would be happy to send the files to make it easier to understand the model and output since this explanation probably isn’t enough to give a clear answer to all of my problems.   10. The FAN_COMPONENT simply adds body forces to the flow field to model the effect of the fan. There are two types of fan that are supported....an axial fan, and a radial fan. An axial fan is similar to the cooling fan in front of a car radiator. The flow enters along the axis of rotation, and the fan imparts a pressure rise to the flow. A radial fan (also known as a centrifugal fan) is typically enclosed in a housing, and the flow enters along the axis of rotation but exits perpendicular to the axis of rotation. An example of this would be the blower in the heating system of a car or a turbocharger. When defining a FAN_COMPONENT, a body force is added to all of the volume elements in the parent element set of the surface. So, separate element set should be used to model the fan. The fan_thickness should correspond to the length of the element set. The magnitude of the body force is given by the equations shown in the Command Reference Manual. The axial, radial, and tangential pressure drops can all be modeled. The attached example illustrates the steps necessary to convert a P-Q into the appropriate input data for FAN_COMPONENT when modeling a radial fan with an axial coefficient of type=bilinear_curve_fit. This example utilizes an axial coefficient that is constant with radius, but varies with flow rate through the fan.
