  1. I'm using HyperMesh 12.0 and Abaqus 6.12-4. I've been away from FEA for a couple of years. My entities are now getting names like: NSET = S2;S2;S2;S2;S2;PreTensNodes and P2;P2;P2;P2;P2;FuelTank and G37;G27;G27;G32;G47;S:WashrLo Then I run Abaqus and get errors that a certain surface doesn't exist. It doesn't exist because its name got a new prefix in the model data, but not in the history data. Somewhere in the documentation I saw how names are organized between the semi-colon and colon. I can't find it now. I've looked and looked. Can someone please point me to where in the manual this naming convention is explained. Is there a way of turning it off so that I can use names like: plate, gusset, door, Fred, Wilma, Moe, Larry, CurlyJoe? Thank you. Phil
  2. I got sidetracked. I have an example. I will post it when I figure out how. I don't have time right now. I think I am seeing tesselation lines. I just saw them mentioned in something I read today. I didn't even have to edit this part. I usually use STEP files from Pro-E to transfer geometry. This time I tried an IGES file. It looked like this when I first plotted it. Thank you for the feedback.
  3. Well, no. Actually, I just tried again so I could tell you what the error message is and it works. Maybe I hadn't "restarted" my laptop after the installation? Anyway, it works now. Thank you for asking. Phil
  4. Is SimLab supposed to be a better version of BatchMesher? Is anyone using SimLab? (I don't see a SimLab Forum. This is as close as it gets.) I got a new computer today and had to re-install HyperWorks. I installed SimLab to give it a look, but it wouldn't even start up. Using: HW 12.0, SimLab 12.1, running on an HP EliteBook 8570w Windows 7 Enterprise, Version 6.1 (Service Pack 1) Is anyone else having better luck with SimLab? Thank you. Phil
  5. Whenever I edit surfaces, especially trimming, I end up with surfaces that look translucent with strange lines going across it. If they mesh, they sometimes look like one surface on top of other with different meshes. How can I avoid this? Thank you. Phil
  6. Mario, Thank you. You taught me two things that will help me with many tasks. 1) I had looked all over for a filter, but didn't think of right click. 2) I had tried to shift-select and cntrl-select without success. Your reply told me that it was do-able. I found my error. I had been clicking on the geometry and FE icons. I learned you must click on the collector name. Thank you very much for the help. Phil
  7. Our bolts, nuts, and washers, have part numbers where the letter m is either the second or third character. All of the other characters are numerals. How can I delete *m* collectors? I want to get rid of all of my bolts, nuts, and washers quickly. I do want a chance to review them first and make sure I haven't accidently somehow included a desireable part. Then after the review, delete them all! I am using HM 12.0 on Windows 7 on an HP computer. Thank you. Phil
  8. Tinh, That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much. Phil
  9. I want to be able to change the view so that the plane of the computer monitor screen is parallel to an arbitrary plane of my choosing in the model. I thought there was a function in HyperMesh that did this easily. Did they do away with it? Am I think of some other modeling software? (NO! That can't be it!)8-[ Does anybody remember this feature and or know how to do this quickly and easily? Thank you. Phil
  10. Does anyone know of a collection of macros for simple tasks? I have not done any Tcl/TK programming, but I imagine this is simple for someone who is experienced with it. I am thinking of three things: 1) Rename a body, its cg, and its graphic to have similar names. e.g. bracket, bracketCG, bracketGR. I am thinking in terms of working with a model imported from Pro-E. 2) Delete a body, its cg, and its graphic. This is for cleaning up a model imported from Pro-E. 3) Given two bodies, create a fixed joint between them with the joint origin at a point located between the body cgs. I am a newbie and welcome your comments and suggestions.[-o< Thank you. Phil
  11. I'm trying to learn MotionView. I thought I had cleaned up my geomtry from Pro/E but I have a bunch of nuts and bolts in my MotionView model. It looks like I have to delete the body, graphic, and CG for each individual bolt and nut. Does anyone have an easier way to do this? Thank you. Phil
