  1. If anyone having tutorial for contact with high friction coefficient based thermal analysis in NLGEOM please share.
  2. Please someone tell me how can I go for sequential analysis from structural to thermal conditions. I have a disc in contact on two sides by pads and contact is frictional contact and rotation is applied to disc as decreasing function with time (i.e decelerating) and pressure is applied on pads in normal direction. Physically it would generate heat and convection is also defined with initial temperature condition. Now I want the increased temperature of the disc due to frictional heating and also need contact stresses and von mises stresses How should I proceed. It is easier to first go to thermal conditions i.e. apply heat flux and convection and then define a SPC mechanical constraint and solve the thermo - mechanical coupled problem as in one of the tutorial but I have to do first structural and then thermal to get temperature distribution. Please reply
  3. @Prakash Pagadala. - Sorry sir I had used word simulation. Actually I want to do thermomechanical analysis. You might remember the model which you corrected having TABLED1 entries. I want to continue with that by applying varying pressure wrt time on pads in frictional contact with the rotor and varying angular velocity wrt time applied to disk. In addition to this I want to use the transient thermal analysis results to calculate thermal stresses and then see combined effect of the mechanical and thermal stresses. Currently I am not able to figure out what should I do. My queries are : 1. Whether I can use TLOAD1 for defining varying pressure also, as in TLOAD help it shows only force and moment. 2. If TLOAD1 can't be used what shall I use to define time varying pressure. 3. Can DLOAD be used in combination with RLOAD and TLOAD just by defining DLOAD_NUM =3 (which is the simple addition) and giving values S=1, S(1)=1, S(2)=1, S(3)=1. 4. If I cant do anything like above please suggest me any direction in which I can proceed. @Tinh - Thanks for the reply. I will see to it and revert back to support forum
  4. Please someone tell me is it possible to apply varying angular velocity to a model in Optistruct. If not is there any other way to simulate a rotating component having varying angular velocity

  6. I have tried the above values it didnt work out sir. The values of temperature are in 9.99e5 ranges. May be something is terribly wrong in my problem but I have used the same procedure as given in tutorial OS-1090. Please suggest me something. Working on brake disc transient thermal behaviour. Boundary condition are ambient at 22 degree. Covection through disc surface. And heat flux on both discs. I can share model with you if you want.

I have to apply a heat flux as (Need to apply this practically as per the problem statement) at time = 0 sec, Heat Flux = 4.2e6 W/m2 at time = 4 sec, Heat Flux = 0 W/m2 at time = 45 sec, Heat Flux = 0 W/m2 1. What I have entered in TABLED1 is x1 = 0, y1 = 1 (Linear) x2 = 4, y2 = 0 (Linear) x3 = 45, y3 = 0 (Linear) After I entered these I didn't get the right results. 2. And when I give values as below still didn't get the correct results: x1 = 0, y1 = 4.2e6 x2 = 4, y2 = 0 x3 =45, y3 = 0 Maybe there is something else wrong in my model but I first want to conform this whether this is correct or not the above two tables which I input. Please give your inputs
  8. Please help me on TABLED1 entries. I am not able to understand how to assign values in this table (help is not clear). If I want to assign random values can I do it or not. Say in Element flux I want to enter values as for time = 0 sec value is 4.2 for time = 4 sec value is 0 for time = 4.5 sec value is 4.2 for time = 8 sec value is 0 for time = 8.5 sec value is 4.2. and so on to say 16 sec or 24 sec or more. Can I input these types of random values to TABLED1 Card or not.
  9. Thanks for the reply sir. Please also tell me about what is the unit system followed in Hypermesh. My model was in mm and as per the video tutorial provided on Altair's site units are either SI or mm-t-s or mm-kg-ms. In that it was given that mass to be taken in tonnes, time in sec, force in N. Here but we have to use Joule and Watt also in Specific heat and Watt comes in heat transfer coefficient. These are however J=Nm and W=J/s. In the above mentioned tutorial only m was converted to mm and W and J are taken as it is. Please tell what units we should follow. I have done the same simulations in ANSYS Workbench and there are results are coming all right. I am sharing the picture of the results in ANSYS (sent by ishan.aggarwal1987@gmail.com). Probably we are making some mistake in units because of that these results are not coming right. Units we used are - Thermal Conductivity in W/mm degreeC Specific Heat in J/Kg degree C Heat Transfer Coeff in W/mm2 degree C Rho - kg/mm3 Flux - W/mm2 In tutorial kg was taken as it is so we have taken kg only. However there is a ambiguity between what was given in video tutorial (has mass in tonnes) and in tutorial.

I am working on a brake disc model in which I want to carry out transient thermal analysis and I have proceeded in the same manner as given in the tutorial but I am not getting anything in the results in spite being that the system is showing job is completed and there is no error. Sir I want to share my model with you for you to check if its possible for you. Please provide a way, either your e mail address or any other thing as I am hesitant to provide model on the forum.
