  1. Sir,


         Why 3D elements have only 3 Degrees of freedom? I referred our Book- Practical Aspects FEA, they say "after rod (1D), paper (2D), imagin a (wooden) duster (3D), can you EASILY twist it?,.... Hence only 3 d.o.f.s NO ROTATIONAL D.O.F.s "

    My query is 'what about a solid ductile metal duster tested with a torsion tester (now not to worry about the capacity)?' Now what if it  could twist EASILY?

I used HyperForm- Die- Module- Die Stress Analysis- Process manager only upto mapping step of the forming forces on to desired component of the tool and then moved to HyperMesh- Radioss- Bulk data to do USUAL linear static analysis. I could see the load collector of my mapped loads in the model brouser (and obviously in model visualization) and that's what I wanted.

  3. I want to perform die structural analysis of a forming die using 'Die Stress Analysis' in Die Module of HyperForm. The tool is in the form of plates (not of casting type) and all die, die housing, etc., all palrts are separate and fasten by bolts. I want to perform linear static analysis for only punch and die blocks with the operation loads.

    I have refered the repective tutorial 'HF-6000: Die Structure Optimization'; but I'm not clear with the procedure yet.

    How do I mesh the components (3D?; which type volume tetra?)

    How can I skip 'Transportation' subcase?


    Or Simply


    If I decide to do the linear static analysis in HyperMesh, how can extract the contact forces and apply them to my model?

    "ERROR id : 595


    I was running a spring back simulaton, when I encountered this error.


    Please guide me to solve this problem; I tried every possibe way like using Automatic mode/ Manual mode, autoprocess, but nothing worked.

  5. I have a stamp part for which I need to create die
    skin using die module. I tried the 'Process Flanges- Unfold' option to
    unflange the part to make a die skin for an intermediate operation.
    But the part seem a bit tricky. I referred a tutorial (cum
    introduction) regarding Flange
    Still I couldn't do that.

    Please guide me to solve this problem.
    I'd love to extract the die skin using ONLY HyperForm(without any
    other CAD software).

  6. Isn't there any way to get the intermediate part (with surface or at least trim polyline) in between different stamping operations?


    e.g. I have a component with two types flanges(with symmetry on other side) which can not be made in single operation. I want an intermediate part with inner flange unfolded first[usual practice is: outermost(nearest to the periphery) is first unfolded and then the next inner flanges are opened] so that on flattening of that inner flange, the outer flange side will rotate towards the symmetry line with the same angle required to flatten the inner flange.

    Maybe it's difficult to create the 'trim part' (/is it??)as required by the 'part to part' panel if we used the 'line mapping' feature. Though I can map the inner flange line (edge) on blank surface, what about the outer flange? On which surface I could map it?


    I have attached an image file depicting something related to my problem statement.




  7. I'm using Radioss_One_Step for creating a blank shape of a very simple part which is exactly symmetric about one of its axis. I don't want to apply any symmetric constraints. As I see the mesh pattern it appears mirrored(similar) as expected. But when it unfolds in the blank shape result visualization, the flattened mesh pattern looks a bit different and also the most worst, it gives unsymmetrical geometry in the .igs file export. I used different ways in meshing(reflecting), geometry setup(reflecting),etc; but the results aren't satisfactory. Please comment


  8. Sir,

         In the pre-processing, as I create the frictional contact in between the binder and blank also apply load on the blank through binder, I expected that the simulation process will show me the blank being sandwiched in between the binder and die with zero clearance in between them.

    But as you can see, attched snap of the simulation in the result visualisation through HyperView, there is gap between the blank and binder as wellas blank and die surface,

    Is this because, the 3D mesh visualisation is OFF ?

    If so, how do I enable it in HyperView?

  9. When I run the hf file of my model created just as per the tutorial 'Simple draw forming', at the begining of the process the solver didn't prompt fo any error. But at the end of 7th animation file, the process terminated saying 'The run encountered a problem in an interface Type21: You may need to check if there is enough clearance between the tools'.


    Please help me to solve the problem.

  10. For incremental Radioss forming operation, I have used b-meshing for blank and verified that there is no single tria element and the other(die) parts are meshed with R-meshing.

    I setup the tool by die and automatically created the punch, binder and die cavity.

    Then I performed the Auto Process in which I applied Autoposition parameters and ran the file.

    But I'm unable to obtain the results as the process stumbles around the error saying 'Unknown command line argument: DIE_0000.rad'.

    Also it does not produce _0000.out file.

  11. Whenever I use the R-Mesh option for Geometry meshing, the mesh quality I get is seems very unacceptable (as I perform quality check). But the solver (Radious_One Step) provide results without any flaw in its computations.

    However, when I perform Automesh, followed by quality check (warpage, Aspect Ratio, Skew, jacobian, Mini. length, angles, etc; without any change in other steps (tonnage, material,etc), the solver fails to produce results as it stumbles with an error (Radioss/Optistruct Error 20205) in the process.


    Does this meshing (with probable unacceptable meshing quality) through R-mesh panel (without any quality refining) affect the accuracy of the results?

  12. Sir,

         I want to perorm FEA of a pressur vessel. On its meshed model I applied pressure. Now if I want to perform a linear static analysis on it where it is subjected to only pressure type of loading(neglecting weight, wind load, etc), what about constraint?

    I know that its going to fail(burst) only when there is a huge pressure differential inside-outside, how do I convey this information to the software?
