  1. We use a modified variant of Finite Volume Method (FVM). The method uses a combination of cubic mesh elements and so called fraction elements that can take any shape in order to describe the outer contour of the casting. The method is exact and fast at the same time.
  2. Which meshing method is used in NovaFlow&Solid?
  3. You can make movies that you can send and show filling or solidification on. We have a specific Auto Report function that is one button function that creates a good report of the simulation.
  4. How can we present/transfer simulation results to a customer or other partners?
  5. Yes we have this and you can mail us on support@novacast.se to get a link to the instruction video files directory. You can also access this through the Altair Partner Alliance homepage.
  6. Do you have video lessons of the software? Like self-instructing videos?
  7. NovaFlow&Solid supports Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 but it must be 64-bit OS. Older operative system might work but we are not supporting them.
  8. In principle all casting materials can be simulated provide that there is material data in the database for it. The NovaFlow&Solid database is quite comprehensive from the start but there are of course material missing there. The material groups we have is Steel of various kinds from unalloyed to high alloyed, cast irons, aluminium alloys, magnesium alloys, copper based alloys, zinc alloys, Titanium alloys, Super-alloys (Nickel based, Cobolt based) and jewelry alloys like Gold and silver. If material is missing you/we can add it to the database or copy and modify an existing alloy or purchase the material data from JmatPro. All materials gives you the ability to simulate, micro and macro shrinkages, cold flows and gas porosities. If the material have stress enabled data you can as well make simulations to look and cold and hot tears and as well study the dimensional changes of the part.
  9. What is the different casting materials that can be simulated and what defect types can be detected?
  10. The fewer the elements the shorter the time is the rule. If you compare the meshing method with FDM you should aim for similar amount of elements in the wall thickness which for FDM should be 3 elements. If you apply three elements in FDM you get a very rough simulation but with the FVM used in NovaFlow&Solid it is good enough and the calculation time is really short. You can also use our dual meshing method that enables use of different mesh resolution for mouldfilling and solidification. See attached document. This really shortens the simulation time as well.
