  1. Not at this time. Today, SimSolid only reports the final fully stressed state.
  2. Couple of things: Wrong boundary condition. You were using elastic foundation. Better just to apply sliding on 3 surfaces Under converged. When looking for stress, better to use 4-passes and check on Adapt to features. See results below. Now stress are located in the slot as expected. Note: due to the fact SimSolid uses a fixed results plotting grid for contour display, stress distribution can appear more fragmented in narrow slots as compared to FEA. This is an artifact of the viz and not of the solution. Here is one more plot with the legend adjusted close to that used in FEA.
  3. Automatic detection of contact is based on two tolerances -- max gap and max penetration between the parts and one resolution setting -- Standard, Enhanced, High. If your parts are badly misaligned, you may need to adjust these a bit. As an alternative, you can use fillet welds. Try to group select a number of parts and find all edge welds. With Bolts and Nuts may apply tightening loads. The restriction is that there must be a hex head on both. See the training guide for more details or contact customer support.

  5. Would have to see the model, but I believe the issue may be the local coordinate system is not propagating between design studies. You may need to recreate it in the second study.

Probably best to talk to an Altair technical representative directly but I will try to answer a few: Spots are found in the Project tree under the part that they are defined on Not possible to create spot patterns at this time Cannot suppress a spot, just don't apply any BC to it and it will be ignored in the simulation Use Add/edit part connection to create connection between two specific parts Right click on a part and select Review part connection. this will only show you the connection to the specific part you selected In the project tree use CTRL and SHIFT to select multiple sub-assemblies then right menu select and Hide/Show
  7. There are a number of resources to look at. There are 2 white papers – one more general, one more technical. There is also several pages of concepts in the Fast start training guide. Look at slides on pages 5 through 10.

  10. Good idea. We do not do this currently. You can view parts by material in the Assembly Show menu (right mouse select Assembly in the project tree) but you can’t save the selection at this time. Have to think how to do this easily in the UI. Will add this to the enhancement request list.
  11. It most likely depends on the shape and density of the connections. For example two parts can be oriented such that (within the connection tolerances specified) they only connect at one or two points. This may be sufficient to satisfy the initial rigid body checks, but when the polynomial order get raised in the 3rd pass it becomes ill-defined. Go back at look at the connections, especially along thin edges or where very small parts are located.
  12. You can do the following:– this problem is a 2D or axis-symmetric problem. You can create a slice of the geometry and apply sliding to the sides of the slice– the lid is fixed, the ridge is in contact with the gasket. Apply vertical displacement to the ridge. The displacement is equal to the gap between spacer and the lid.– apply NL material to the gasket– watch the reaction force vs displacement at the ridge bottom
  13. Today, SIMSOLID does not have a point mass concept. You can set any part to “rigid” and then specify the mass explicitly, say 100 kg. That said, you would need to have to general shape of the component that your are modelling the mass for.
  14. We do not need even the CAD model, just share the ssp any way (Drpbox, google drive, etc.).
  15. The reasons for numerical instability can be: – insufficient contact resolution. Particularly important in case of large frames when the global size is much bigger than size of beams cross-sections (may result in internal hinges). Remedy: increase the resolution in Find Connections dialog – significant part overlaps which makes connections not physical – significant distance between connected parts (reduce gap tolerance) – invalid geometry (you can check geometry quality by launching diagnostics from Assembly toolbar The best way is to send us the model for investigation.
