  1. Hello Rahul, "Thermal compliance for coupled thermal structural case is under development. We will let you know once this feature is available." Can you please let me know what do you mean by this? I wanted to minimize compliance (not thermal compliance) on a coupled thermal-structural coupled model. The result I am getting not removing material at all almost! I am attaching the FEM file. topo_coupled_check_new.fem
  2. I wanted to perform topology optimization with an objective function to minimize compliance of a solid beam where there is a thermal load applied along with mechanical load (coupled analysis). I have followed the tutorial Coupled Linear Heat Transfer/Structure Analysis for FEM analysis and then performed COMPLIANCE minimization on the structure. But the result barely removes material from the optimized structure and took more than 6 hours to complete. Also showing a warning called "NOTE # 2045 TEMPERATURE(MATERIAL/BOTH (which shouldn't be acc to my intuition) should preferably be defined above the subcase level. If used inside subcase, then the last occurrence will define the material temperature. I am attaching the .fem file for convenience. Can anyone plese help me out? thermomecha_topo.fem

  6. Thanks a lot, rahul. I am really grateful to you. I could solve the error 557 subcase problem by editing the .fem file in a text editor and then reopen it. everything works fine then. I can do 3D optimization by differentiating design and nondesign space. but in case of 2D optimization 'how to impose CHBDYE surface for heat flux and then optimize that domain? ' I have searched the forum and got a solution like this, QBDY1 load has to be applied to the slave conduction elements. And two cards " needs to be defined (OPTI_DEBUG and CASE_UNSUPPORTED_CARDS" How to do that? can you please help me once again with that? Thank you in advance.

  8. Thanks a lot rahul. Point 1: The case is that thermal compliance must be assigned to a linear heat transfer subcase. I could solve the issue by editing the .fem file in text editor and then putting the DRESP2 3 after the heat transfer SUBCASE. But I am getting negative thermal compliance! Point 2: Can you please let me know how to make the material units MAT1 and model units consistent? I mean what about the model unit? I knew hypermesh is non-dimensional. While loading your .fem file (the one you corrected) I got this warning! Warning: Unsupported cards found in the I/O options section have been written as unsupported control card. Summary: Feinput finished with 0 errors and 1 warnings.

This error occurs in DESOBJ 3. can you please tell me how to fix this from the graphics window? I was not able to select any loadstep while setting Minimizing thermal compliance optimization! I am attaching my FEM file topology_Linear_Steady_State_Heat_Convection_Analysis.fem Again can anyone tell me some directory where I can find any tutorial for thermal compliance optimization?

I want to minimize thermal compliance setting volume fraction as the constraint. I am uploading my .fem file. it says DRESP1 1 is not referenced from within a linear heat transfer SUBCASE. This type of response must be specified from within a linear heat transfer SUBCASE. This error occurs in DESOBJ 1. As you know any .fem file isn't working I am lost a bit! I have read your post on it.
