  1. Hello everyone, We are working on a car chassis for a University Project Team. Chassis is made from carbonfibre composites. We put together support parts and main chassis with using adhesives (like Pleksus). We are running structural analysis by using Hypermesh-Obtistruct. So here is the question, what is the proper way to model composite - adhesive - composite connections? I have tried adhesive connector, but it is just filling the gaps with rbe3s. I want to connect composite parts with adhesive that i have the mechanical properties. For better understanding, i am attaching two pictures, our past car chassis and a composite model to try adhesive connection. Thanks for your supports. Have a nice day.
  2. Hello, I need a help with procedure please.? I am able to create the adhesive brick elements mesh using optistruct (3D - connectors - area - "constant thickness" as Hexathickness - type "adhesives" ) in student version (Hypermesh 2019) (as in the image). But in Radioss ( Block format 140) (Hypermesh 2017.2), the same process is not working. While using the same procedure, I get the surface connector (as below) without thickness (even while creating through: 3D - connectors - area - "adhesive(contact)" as type). But I would like to create the brick elements. Also, I would like to do hexa positioning it with "mid thickness" option and I couldn't change the "shell gap" option to the "mid thickness" with the drop down (as shown in the highlighted below). Could anyone please tell me if it is possible and also how to create it in the Radioss.? Thanks in advance!
  3. Hey everyone, sometimes I have to create area connectors (for adhesive) on sheet metal parts. Those parts mostly have flanges, an area which is parallel to an corresponding area of another part. The two parts are connected at their two flanges. I wonder how can I detect this flanges automatically and create area connectors at those flanges efficiently? For Spotwelds there is the functionality "Autopitch", which detects flanges and creates spotweld connectors according to parameters. Is there something similar for area connectors? Does someone know an efficient way of creating area connectors?
  4. Hi Guys, Im doing frontal collision using radioss, spot weld and adhesives were provided using connectors. Since there were interferences between spot weld and adhesives as shown in the figure. Both spot and adhesives will be there in model, is it advisable to continue with this. Since my major interferences and penetrations is between spot and adhesives. Can you provide me a better solution. Also while providing type7 contact, Case1 In my model both shell and solid part persists i have directly selected those parts in Master Entity and Case2 In my model , i have created skin for all solid parts with a thickness of 0.01mm and updated those in Master entity along with shell parts in this which one is advisable, how to establish contact for those solid components.
  5. Hi, I'm currently experimenting with different connection types to simulate adhesive bonds. I want to find the best way to analyze large scale bonded shell models. So far I've been examined different options for area connectors, such as: shell gap, mid thickness, etc. The problem I have is that when I increase the adhesive thickness I get some incorrect results. Up to 3 mm in thickness, all the results seem acceptable, but with 5 mm and 10 mm thickness it looks false. More details: I use Optistruct, and running a Linear Static analysis The adhesive layer seems too rigid, although I use the real parameters of the glue. It seems like the glue is trying to maintain its position (perpendicular) to the sheet, and isn't deforming enough. My question is: is there any rule regarding the range that a connector type can be used in? (For example: area connector in shell gap mode is good for adhesive layers in the 1-3 mm range.) Or in other words, is there a limit thickness where adhesive area connectors can't be used anymore? I attached the model I was using. Also, what modelling method can you suggest to analyse large scale shell models with adhesives (for example: a boat)? Thanks, Sebo kiskocka_slp_9.hm
  6. Hi, I am having problem with adhesive connectors generation. where ever there is an edge, the elements are highly deformed. see the Picture below. Is there any way to correct These undeformed elements easily insted of editing each node. There are hundreds of connector elements, so correcting individual elements is not feasible.

  9. Hi, I am new to composite analysis in Hyperworks. Could someone explain how to define adhesive joints in a ply based model? The idea is to join two seperate components that are manufactured seperately using adhesive. For example joining the flages of an hat section to another surface.
  10. Greetings Forum Members, I am writing regarding a query on modelling of Adhesive connectors in Radioss Block Format 140. I am working on hyperworks 14 and have been using Optistruct for linear Static, Modal analysis and Abaqus CAE for all my non-linear implicit and explicit analysis. I have been exploring Radioss for a while now but I am relatively a new user who is trying to move all my non-linear analysis to Radioss Solver. So, In Optistruct input deck the option to create Adhesive's is relatively simple. Connectors --> Area --> Adhesive --> this will create a brick element for which the desired PSolid property can be directly assigned. The Structural Adhesive is used to join two plastic automotive components say for example the inner and outer panel of the engine hood using RBE3 kinematic constraints between the solid and shell elements. The Structural Adhesive is a elastic material with properties obtained from the testing Lab. The same can be done in Abaqus 3D Solver Deck. But in Radioss Block format the options available are Adhesive spring and Adhesive (contact). So how do I model the adhesive as solid with RBE3 constraints? Or what is the correct method to model the adhesives in Radioss? Thank you.

  12. Hi, I hope I do not bother anyone with questions to which answers might be obvious to advanced users. Using Hyperworks 11, I'd like to create a simple adhesive contact in Hypermesh between two solid compontents, hex mesh. The tutorial HM-3410: "Creating Area Connectors" only treats 2D-elements and doesn't work the same way for 3D-elements. Could anyone give me a short hint how to "glue" two compontens together, please? I would appreciate it very much. Have a nice day Hampel
