1. ## Shape Optimization, Frequency Response Modal Analysis: Minimize dynamic Stiffness

Hello, i want to reduce the dynamic stiffness of a rubber bearing by changing the geometry. I have an approximate idea of the "optimized" geometry of this rubber bearing therefore I created morphvolumes and changed the specified area (solid elements) by translating the handles. I saved these changes as shapes which are my design variables. I know that the optimum is between the initial model and the changed model. I want to do an optimization with optistruct to find the optimum. To reduce the dynamic Stiffness i need 3 responses and an equation (dont know another way so far). The calculation of the dynamic Stiffness is simple: Cdyn = Force/Displacement. First i defined an equation with the dequation-panel: F(x,y)=x/y --> where x is the "frf force (ELFORCE)" and y the displacement (frf displacement) which are two of the three responses. The Last response is "function" which includes the dequation and the other two responses defined before. I would like to minimize the response "function" (which is the dynamic stiffness). But it's not possible to create an objective which minimizes my response "function", i get following error: *** ERROR # 1812 *** Multiple responses are assigned to the DESOBJ objective function. A MINMAX/MAXMIN objective function definition with DOBJREF should be used instead. Number of responses = 1000 1) Do you know what the maximum number of responses is? (It's an frequency response analyis from 0 Hz to 3000 Hz with an increment of 3, thats why its 1000 responses (i guess)) . I created an obj reference "dobjref" which includes the response "function", then i created MINMAX objective.This works, and i can start the optimization but here i have some questions: 2) When i define the obj reference i can choose neg and pos reference. What can i do with these references? 3) I don't really know what this minmax function does. Does it minimize the maximum value of the equation? It is not my goal to minimize only the maximum value of the equation, it's rather minimizing the area of the function. 4) Is it normal that optistruct finds a solution after 2 iterations? I have two different shapes and i would expect that it takes a lot of time and iterations to find the optimum. I guess i did something wrong or forgot sth. 3. ## Change of material and influence on stress calculation in analysis

Hello, I compared maximum stress of my model in a linear static analysis with different materials. I went from steel to 7075 aluminum (lower youngs modulus and higher cross contraction number). The rest of my model including the load cases stayed the same and i expected the stress to be higher in the case of aluminum because of its lower youngs modulus. But the exact opposite was the case. How can this be explained? I did some research and found this quote in a PDF from altair (https://www.altairuniversity.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/postproc.pdf) : "Changing the material will not require rerunning the analysis for stress (in case of linear static analysis) and a decision could be taken just by comparing the maximum stress value with the yield / ultimate strength of the material" So i get different stresses in a linear static analysis with different materials, but this quote says an analysis rerun is not required. I am confused. I highly appreciate if anyone has an explanation for this. Thank you very much, Johannes

Hello, The Topology Optimization in Optistruct by default uses the Direct method for the Sensitivity analysis. I am predicting the result variation using the Adjoint method. It would be of great help to me if I know the way that I can make the solver use the Adjoint method of Sensitivity anslysis. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

7. ## Extract GPSTRESS with tcl script

Hello, I would like to extract the node point stresses after an analysis using a tcl script for further analysis in Matlab. Control cards only allow me to export the GPSTRESS as HM or H3D which is not useful for running an analysis outside of hypermesh and hyperview. What functions should I use to accomplish this? when a round profile model such as car wheel , bike wheel, have do a static analysis , hub or shaft center of wheel fixed. forces apply rim face but this forces are crossed does not perpendicular selected axis. how to apply force in round , cylindrical part in face ?
11. ## Using imported STL as part

Hello Everyone, I just started to use Inspire and I did the introduction problems on Altair's Moodle. I know more or less how to draw and modify the structures. However, I noticed when I upload STL file from alternative source to Inspire 2016, it seems like a piece that I cannot modify or it doesn't appear in analysis any way. I would like to run analysis stage on the imported STL file before I modify it at any way. The piece appears as "Invalid feature or associated part". An STL file output from Inspire 2016 source is recognized as it should be after reloading. Is it there a way to make an imported part to become a part that can be modified in Inspire 2016? Hi, I am a student of Youngnam University in Korea.This time, I was going to get a student license and use it.However, an error occurred. I want to know the solution.I don't know if it's a license or my condition is wrong. Perhaps it is not a licensing issue.There's a file I analyzed last year. There was no problem last year. Hı everyone, I am trying to do lattice optimization with different types. I'm using hex mesh for design and tetra mesh for non-design. 20. ## Unable to view stress and strain

Hi there, I've run a simulation of the chassis of a car through Optistruct in Hyperview, and there were no errors and everything seemed to run well. However, upon loading into Hyperview, I am unable to view the contour plots for stress/strain/displacement and the four subcases. I am expecting to get a model like Image 1, however am getting image 2. It is as if there are no loads applied to the chassis. If anyone is able to view the model (file attached) and perhaps indicate where I am going wrong it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Chassis_scaled_newI.hm
21. ## noh3d - nproc 1 Incremental Radioss-Error running simulation file

Hello, I am using hyperform to evaluate the springback compensation of a component. I created the parameters and saved the '.hf file'. Then while running the analysis with the saved .hf file, the command prompt opens. It could not run the simulation. It shows the error 'noh3d -nproc 1' and 'the system cannot find the path specified'. Have attached with the screenshot of the error. Kindly refer to it and help me regarding this. Thanks in advance.

hello, i'm trying to do a correlation between experimental results and numérical ones, so for this correlation i am using as a reference file a .UNV ( 164) and for correlation file results extracted from a modale analysis optistruct, so once i clic on load an error message apear it said that '' erreur: missing operand ar_@_ in expression..'' as showing in the picture. i'm sure that the error comes from the unv file. so my question is : is it the unv fomat file ''dataset 164'' that causes this error? if yes what dataset should be used ' dataset 15, 18, 55, 58, 82 or 151? if there is any other suggestion i'm all ears. and thank you in advance for all your replies

Hello, Can anybody explain what is the difference between these 2 stress components ; Tresca and MaxShear? I assume that both come from the Maximum Shear Stress theory (Failure theories) so I do not understand the difference between both of them, in which situation they are to be used, etc. Thank you. 24. ## Solution Stability Issue

Hi, Mesh independent study is performed for one operating point to fix the mesh count in one of my problem. The final fixed mesh count result was deviating by 1.5% for the selected operating point. The final fixed mesh is used to simulate for other operating points and their results deviate between 10-30%. To check the consistency of the result the simulation is conducted for different operating point to check the stability of solution and found result changes with huge deviation. If this problem persists on my cases, it would be difficult for us to relay on the tool. Requesting you to arrange for a meeting to discuss in detail about this issue ASAP. Regards, Vignesh V.

How to perform simulation (Nastran) on a system by applying a sinusoidal load of 0.1g which swept from 10-50 Hz which varies at rate of 1Hz/min ??? How to use the Time domain in solver deck? In Modal Frequency Response i don't use varying rate (1 Hz/min) . So please let me know how to apply the time here.....!!!
