  1. Hi, I have a problem with contact analysis. My model is working fine in one direction (let's forget about the connection between the bearing and the gearbox), i.e. the bearing pushes away the flange. However, if I change the direction of the force, in which case the bearing should slip out and has no effect on anything, the bearing still pulls the flange. What do I have to modify to make the bearing available to push the flange but not pull? Thank you aecyd bolted_flange.zip
  2. Hello! I've started using hyperworks a couple of months ago for my research and I still don't really know my way around as I have no previous experience in simulation software. I would like to do a contact analysis by putting two thin foam films (about 0.2mm) on top of each other and see how the impact distribution is different when I change the young modulus value for the top or bottom films. 1. Can anyone advice on which radioss (bulk or block?) I should be using? 2. Shell or solid? 3. And is there any similar tutorial that would be useful? I found "RD-2100:NLSTAT Analysis of Solid Blocks in Contact" but I'm not sure if it's appropriate for the analysis I am doing. What is NLSTAT by the way? 4. Any other related advice would be greatly appreciated as well.
  3. Hi Guys, Im doing frontal collision using radioss, spot weld and adhesives were provided using connectors. Since there were interferences between spot weld and adhesives as shown in the figure. Both spot and adhesives will be there in model, is it advisable to continue with this. Since my major interferences and penetrations is between spot and adhesives. Can you provide me a better solution. Also while providing type7 contact, Case1 In my model both shell and solid part persists i have directly selected those parts in Master Entity and Case2 In my model , i have created skin for all solid parts with a thickness of 0.01mm and updated those in Master entity along with shell parts in this which one is advisable, how to establish contact for those solid components.
  4. I'm trying to incorporate mesh independent 1D spotweld/rigid/beam elements between 2/more BIW panels via contact interface and seem unable to execute. Error: *** ERROR # 2371 *** SET SSID on CONTACT 1 is empty. (1D elements in slave set)
  5. Hello, I have updated the software from the 14 to the 2017.1 version and when I am trying to select the 2D elements to add to the BSURF group in order to define contact in a BCTSET card in NX Nastran user profile, no elements are selected. Is this a bug of the software or has there been a change in the way to specify contact of which I am not aware of? Thanks in advance.
  6. I have 2 parts forming t section whose midsurface is extracted which creates gap between the parts,to overcome the same i extended the one surface and projected on other , after meshing nodes gets merged is their any need to define contact between the parts as i want to fix these parts ?
  7. Which contact type is to be used for these body they are not welded only one is kept on other ?
  8. Hi All how should I choose the external surface of a spherical shape as a surface , when I also have meshed it ? I tried elements but the problem was that I could not use any option to select all the elements on the external surface, options like adjacent ,etc don't work
  9. Hi, I am trying to analyze the contact forces during impact using radioss. Do you have a pictorial representation or any documentation of Normal forces in X, Y, Z, Tangent forces in X,Y,Z and Total Forces in X, Y, Z? I also want to know whether the component of a total force components would be the addition of Normal force vector component and tangent force vector component? I could not find any documentation yet. Please help me out. Thanks
  10. Hi, Due to contacts in my model I wanna let my optimization run nonlinear. So far the linear analysis and optimization works. To let the analysis and optimization run nonlinear I created a load collector with the card image NLPARM. Additionally I created a non-linear quasi-static loadstep. The nonlinear analysis gives me results where as the optimization does not give any result even though I can let the optimization run without any error. Here I'm uploading a very simplified model that is compatible to the HyperWorks student edition. The contacts are not implemented yet. But there should be contact between the green, the yellow and the blue component. Maybe someone can tell me by which criteria I have to decide if the contact partner is master or slave. I'd be glad to get any advice how I can set up a nonlinear optimization with contacts in Optistruct. My question is: which steps do I have to carry out to turn a linear into a nonlinear optimization. Unfortunately I couldn't find that much information about it. Felix P.S. The model shows a medical implant for connecting bones. Maybe someone is wondering what it is Impl-Mandible-Fib-4S-Uebergang_vernetzt_1_temp13_Federn.zip
  11. Hi, I have two 3D parts in contact. I want to ensure matching nodes between the parts so that the contact is good in FE. How do I do that please. I am using tet elements. Thanks

Hello, I have a Model with 2 Load Steps. I applied a force just in one direction with differnet magnitude . For load step 1 =4000N and for load step 2= 10000N. (I do not use CNTNLSUB) I wonder, why the force vs. displacement curve is not equal for both load steps until 4000N. So the stresse are actually also not equal at the same force magnitude. Do somebody has an idea? Attached a Diagram of the 2 curves (force vs displacement), and the model files .fem and .h3d kleines_Loch__plastisch.h3d
  13. For Modal and Stiffness(torsional and bending) of ladder frame chassis, is there any significant difference in results when I use stick contact between frame and cross-members or when I use shell/rigid weld elements to connect cross-members and long members?
  14. Dear Sir, I want to do a three point bending test of carbon fiber laminate in Hypermesh with Radioss. I found something puzzle when i create the contact between components after i had defined materials, properties (CFK using M25_COMPSH and property with it using P17_STACK), plies, laminate and some of boundary conditions. I chose TYPE 7 as the card image to let laminate be a slave entity and impactor be a mater entity but i found i cannot select my laminate component in the option(i can only see other component) Is there any mistake in my operation? Here are some pics under. I am exactly green hand in radioss, my apology... and I hope someone can help me on this.
  15. Dear All, Could you help me to verify, is my simulation valid or not? I do not know because this is first time I use contact in hyperworks my material is steel, with mechanical properties : 1. E = 205000 MPa 2. Poisson Ratio = 0.29 3. Density = 7.85E-6 kg/mm3 4. Yield Strength = 490 MPa 5. UTS = 686 MPa The .hm files is in attachment. Thanks and Best regards, Iron_Man Contact_001.hm
  16. Hi I'm now working on BirdStrike Analysis using RADIOSS140. Like many paper on birdstrike analysis reports, I've done a reproduction of birdstrike experiment carried out by Wilbeck in 1977 [1]. The resultant pressure PH(*1) and PS(*2) meets with theoretical value very well. Except that,if you look at the pressure curve, there is a "ZERO Pressure" period just after the first contact. Taking closer look into the animation, the SPH bounce back just after the contact. Such blank period doesn't appear in the experiment result,or analysis results of other researchers report. [Question] : Is there a way to correct this ? Model setting is follows. -bird is using SPH. Material law is MLAW6 (Equation of State). -Using contact TYPE7. Istf = 1 StFac = 550 … recommended value by Altair Support Igap = 0 gapmin = h/2 (h = SPH radius) … recommended value by Altair Support I've varied the value of these parameters which didn't make any difference on "ZERO Pressure" period. ******************* *1 … PH: the peek pressure just after the contact(Hugoniot Pressure) *2 … PS: the constant pressure when bird deformation can be seen as constant flow.(Stagnation Point Pressure) [1]:J. 17. I updated to Hyperworks Desktop 14.0.130 and the Contact Tool is not available in the "Tools" dropdown. It used to be grouped with the Pretension Manager and now it is missing. Where did it go?
  18. Hello, I'm trying to run a 3 point bend test. The supports doesn't matter, if possible i would like to make it rigid, but to avoid stress concentration in a point i need to model this contact between the support and the I beam. How can i do this, or find some tutorial more focused ? Thanks !
  19. I am trying to simulate a quasi-static (NLSTAT) contact problem using Optistruct. I apply a constant displacement on a rigid cylinder which is set apart from a deformable body. The deformable body starts to deform from the beginning of the simulation without contact. As soon as there is contact, the simulation stops without an error message before the prescribed displacement is achieved. What possibly am I doing wrong? Can I use a composite (PCOMPP) as the deformable body in this case? I don`t remember exactly the message but I received an error saying that I could not use it. Also, as i understand from the manual, SLIDE is used for small sliding condition. What should I use if I have finite sliding? Thanks
  20. Can any one Guide me for, Tutorial or Steps for: set up different type of contact condition between two solid and run in optistruct. (fix condition between surface pairs) post processing contact analysis result in Hyperview.
  21. Hi, I am working on a laminate optimization. I'd like to do the three phases: Free Size Optimization, Size Optimization and Shuffle Optimization mentioned in the composite manual. My question is how can I connect the element faces in the 3rd direction with other elements of different components. In the attached picture I would like to connect the yellow part with the different laminate layers. Are there any solutions available, I could not find equal problems in the composite manual. thank you in advance, Martin
  22. Hi Guys, I have been trying to analyze (static linear) the effect of pressure on an assembly of 2 disks. They are of different materials. The bottom surface of the bottom disk is fixed and pressure is applied on the whole top surface of the top disk. I have tried using freeze contact and also tie but I am only getting stresses on the top disk in the results in both cases. The deformation seems weird because the top disk deforms through the inside of the bottom disk and I get an ice-cream cone like shape. ( I did refer to RD-2100 tutorial for solids in contact) I would really appreciate any help with this. I am a new HW user. Thanks!
