  1. Hi Everyone, I've been using Optistruct topology optimization for a project I'm working on and I am satisfied with the results of the optimization. I'm now trying to make a CAD model of the part to simplify the geometry and make it more practical (adding surfaces for bolts to sit on and getting rid of the rough surface created by the mesh and OSSmooth). I'm using Solidworks as my CAD tool and can't seem to find anything about the most efficient ways of doing this. Does anybody have any advice? Thanks!

  3. Hello! I am a student and still new to the program. I am currently working on the C-Clip Tutorial and when trying to use Optistruct, the Solver View is completely empty. All the panels are empty and the summary only reads " ===Job complete=== ", nothing else. And when I try to use HyperView next, I don't see anything either, it is empty, too. Panels such as the folder directory for the model and results are empty and I can't manage to open the files manually either. I will add an screenshot of the Solver View. Please note: I am using a PC which doesn't save the data locally, but on a server, which can be accessed from various PCs in the university's laboratory.

  5. hi, every one, I have a *** ERROR # 1800 *** Stress/strain/force response is applied to topology or free-size domain. For stress-constrained topology or free-size optimization, please use the STRESS option on the design design variable definition card. Property ID = 1 please any one help me.
  6. Hello, I am pretty new to Hyperworks but have worked myself through most of the tutorials. Until now, everything had pretty much worked out for me, but it’s the topology optimization, which is slowing me down at the moment. What I’m trying to do is to conduct two topology optimizations on a gear wheel, one where the wheel is driven by a moment in the center, and a second, where it is driven by a normal force on a tooth. The first had worked pretty well. I’ve reduced the gear wheel to only one tooth (virtually like a pie slice), set up a normal force on the flank and constrained the whole thing via a RBE3 and a CBAR element (6 DOFs). I then completely constrained every single node in a local system to simulate a symmetry constraint (which I’m not sure about being the right way of a symmetry constraint). Now I’m stuck with the second optimization. I want to add a second constraint, constraining the gear wheel at a second tooth, almost on the opposite side of the tooth with the normal force. The rotational DOF in the center shall be enabled. Is it possible to add a symmetry constraint for this problem? Or would there be another way to optimize the gear wheel? I hope I’ve explained it comprehensively enough. Thank you in advance for your help. Regards martonno

  8. Hi, I have a problem with my model because i doesnt show any optimization after i ran the calculation.Plus, the solver are empty and its only said that the job is completed. I'm using an Optistruct of my school which connected to the server i guess. Please help me.
  9. Hello all, I am trying to load a femur model according to a local coordinate system. When loading in the non-desired direction for testing (Z-dir) the model node moves predictably. But when I try to load in the desired direction against the springs (X-dir), the model does some crazy twisting and weird movement. Would love some help resolving this issue. I have a suspicion it may have to do with the springs... making them very compliant still didn't solve my issue though. .fem files attached 6_25_Altair_Question.zip

  11. Hi , I am working on modal analysis of rotor system in optistruct. I have queries regarding constraints. Pls find the following image which shows rotor assembly with bearing. I need to allow rotation free of rotor and shaft at bearing locations. How to give constraints at bearing locations ? Using RBE2 or any other options are there in Optistruct? Thanks Arul
  12. Hello, I am trying to do a topology optimization on an automotive part for fatigue damage. The process I am following is Define the fatigue damage as response using the fatigue loadstep created. Define design constraint as damagevariable<1. Create a response for volume fraction. Define objective function as min volume fraction. Create a topology optimization desvar with damage less than 1 in parameter section. It however gives an error : Fatigue responses are applied to property 688188 which belongs to a topology or free-size domain. For fatigue-constrained topology or free-size optimization, please use the FATIGUE option on the design variable definition card. If someone is aware of the problem please help me.
  13. Hello, In Ansys and Abaqus solvers I Used to apply a "Skin" (2D elements based on the outer surface of 3D elements) on castings in order to read superficial stresses in Hyperview. These elements were membrane elements and were declared different than regular shell elements. For Optistruct which type of element is the one suited as membrane element? Is there any other approach to read superficial stress on castings? Here is an image of the availabre trias type of elements, which one should I Use? Thank you for your time!
  14. Hi everyone, I am simulating tensile tests with welded samples. I am using NLQS analysis in Optistruct, according to the eBook Introduction to Non Linear Finite Element Analysis using Optistruct. My problem is that the stress-displacement curve after the simulation shows stresses which value is higher than the ultimate stress imposed with the TABLES1. How is it possible? Why the stress-displacement curve does not become flat? Does it have any meaning? Bests Martina

Optimization/buckling analysis cannot be performed. due to possible rigid body mode.   17. Hi, My loadstep, TSTEP and NLPARM are as follows In the result, the number of the time data is 432. (Its time step is not 0.0001) I learned that when NLPARM and TSTEP are used together, DT on NLPARM overrides DT on TSTEP. This result is caused by incremental load based approach in OptiStruct?   18. Hello, Good Afternoon. I have a model to which I need to apply a base excitation. I am basically trying to simulate a forced vibration case wherein I have 2 load cases, which are as follows:- · LC1: 5 – 10 Hz : ±8 mm (Constant displacement) · LC2: 10–500 Hz : ±18 m/sec2 (Const. Acceleration) I am doing it with the FREQUENCY RESPONSE (MODAL) LOAD STEP. I have used all the standard cards that are required for such an analysis like SPCD, RLOAD, DLOAD, FREQ, TABLED1 etc. Let's say I am exciting my model in the X direction, I have checked DOF1(scaled to 1) and unchecked all other DOF's. But the results seem to directly vary with that scale factor which it should but aren't matching with my benchmark results.When i use TABRAND1 instead of TABLED1 i get satisfactory results but I am not sure if I am supposed to do so. I am yet to establish the correct methodology for this sort of forced vibration cases. Could you please help me out.
  19. Hi, I recently used Optistruct to optimize the design under dynamic loading (collision), but I don't quite understand the optimization principle and process under dynamic collision. For example, I used the maximum displacement of a node as the maximum constraint, and found that the .out file is shown below.There are 20 subcases ,and 20 displacement responses,why? here is .out file.   21. hello, i'm doing a size optimization in order to match the drequencies targets for the first 10 modes. so i defined my design variable wich is the PBUSH stifness k1..k6 and as and objective is the MIn using DSYSID (iwth all the 10 first frequancies and the targets) but some how i don't have the right results thats i want i have in my model DESVAR refered to stifness of PBUSH DVPREL1 DRESP1 MIN WITH a DSYSID everythings is well defined i don"t if there something else to add to my optimization to work
  22. Hey Guys! I would like to use Tsai-Wu failure criteria for composite analysis and I have two questions about it. I would like to know which is the maximal load that my composite system can handle, so which load occurs that the failure index is equal to 1? How can I model it? Failure index isn't suitable to scale my design therefore I would like to know the strength ratio of my composite elements. How can I get the proper strength ratios values? (I did not find the proper output card for this matter). You can see the Tsai-Wu failure theory and the strength ratio calculating method in my attachment. Thanks for answers in advance!   24. Hi! I wanna model the rotation of a gear (wheel) with a preload in the pinion. I asume the preload is modeled with a moment but, how do I model the rotation? And which analysis type should I choose? (I don't want a quasi-static one). Some analysis don't let me include a LOAD. Thanks in advance!
