  2. Hello all ! This is my first post here, I'm a student doing my master thesis in Mechanical engineering. Here is my issue, I successfully did the tutorial in order to realize dynamic explicit analysis with the "full car" model available in Hypermesh database and also the " Example 51 - Optimization in RADIOSS for B-Pillar (Thickness optimization) " in order to understand how the ESL method works. The next step is to optimize the car crash box using he ESL method, my aim is to optimize the component called " COMP-PSHELL_1 " by Thickness optimization. I wrote the .radopt file but I encountered an issue with the .fem file. See below the error, I was not able to solve the issue. *** See next message about line 14864 from file: fullcarv5.fem "CONTACT,3,3,0,3" *** ERROR # 1000 *** in the input data: Incorrect data in field # 4. Hi, I am having a radioss bus structure file with min. element size of 5 mm used for crash simulation and now I want to use the same file for static and non-linear quasistaic analysis in optistruct If I go to optistruct will all contacts be detected as it is in radioss and is recommended this way or generate separate file for it. As the structure size is large, meshing will take more time and thus wanted to avoid making new file. Thank you
  4. Dear experts, I realized a simulation of the AM procedure of a plate on Amphyon; I obtain residual stresses due to the manufacturing procedure. Now I need to import these information for each node to HyperWorks to lead a FE analysis. Amphyon allows to export nodes numbers and information in .txt and .stl format. Is there a procedure to import these files in Hyperworks? MartinaC

  8. Hello, everyone! I am a beginner for Hyperwork and using Optistruct to solve some problems. I have a question to define the contact between rule and cylinder just like in the picture. Because of the load in the middle both side of the rule will go up. How could i define this simple support contact in Optistruct? Thank you very much!
  9. Hello, everyone! I am working on composite optimization now, using COMPP in hyperworks. It is a feasible tool and I have got one solution successful in another case. However, in a new case now, I found some problem in size optimization settings, I hope someone can help me here. I have finished the free size optimization phase, and got thickness distribution now. I also setup the FSTOSZ 4, and PLYMAN 0.45 in free size optimization phase. Now, I step to 2nd phase---size optimization. It is normal that the PLYMAN was setup into each ply variable automatically, and also the lower bound and upper bound was generated in each ply variable. Generally, the lower bound is 0, and upper bound is higher than initial value, which come from free size phase. The problem is the error will happen as below, who can help me on this problem?? I also tried to fix this error through change the lower bound and upper bound manually, the problem is if I changed them, the initial value was changed to PLYMAN value automatically, and nothing can be optimized finally.
  10. Hello, I got a problem with my plies. I got a flange in my model where two face meet each other and combine to one. I want only one laminate, but I don't know how I can realize it. As you see in the picture, the plies are stacked only in direction of the normal. I got three faces, which I combined to sets: Inside (left side of the picture), outside (right side of the picture) and the flange. As elements for the plies I chose inside + flange on one hand, on the otherside I chose outside + flange meaning the flange should have the exact same structure as the inside and outside face, there should only be a 90 degree ply (dark blue) dividing them. I only want to use one laminate and one property. Is there any possibility to realize that? I tried to change it with the normals and z0 options, but it did not work. I hope I could explain it in an understandable way. Kind regards, Konstantin

    Optistruct Error

    Hey! I am new to Optistruct , I am trying to carry out linear static analysis on a simple geometry. While i try to carry out the analysis I keep getting this (This line was interpreted as: 2855797:CHEXA, 1057894, 0, 1087168, 1087058, 1087057, 1087165, 1087375, 1087376) Error message . Could you please explain me which step I am going wrong .( I made 2D automesh on a surface and used line drag command to get hexa elements)
  12. Hi, So while reviewing the result of topology optimization in hyperview we have two different pages showing design history (densities) and the subcase result (displacement and stresses). How can i plot the contour value of stresses or displacement while at the same time showing the iso-value of densities (optimized shape)? Thanks! bayupu
  13. Hello, when i start an optimization with optistruct the calculation is finished after 1 Iteration. In the Output-file i found following Information: Soft convergence criterion satisfied; the design did not change during the last Iteration. What does this mean? I already did a lot of successful shape-optimizations but in this case i don't really know why the shape didn't change. I changed the default OBJTOL value from the opti control card but the problem still occurs. The most interesting thing is: When i change the inital value in the shape panel to 0.5 I don't have any problems and the optimization finds the best shape. When I start with an inital value of 0.0 then i get the problem with the soft convergence criterion. Thank you Greets, Fatih Uysal

Hello, I'm doing a simulation with Optistruct on a brake system and I want to perform a non linear quasi static analysis with frictional contact first and a complex eigenvalue analysis accounting for the frictional interaction then (i.e. asymmetric terms on the stiffness matrix). I also read all the relative posts on this forum, but i'm still having problems. Do you have any suggestions or procedure to set the two analyses? I have another question: in my model there are: a force that pushes one pad against the disk and a rotation of 5 degrees that puts the contact between disk and pads in sliding; i have these two step at the same time, but is possible to put in contact only with the force first and to rotate in a successive step? Thank You.

  16. Using Hypermesh 2017, and User Optistruct. I have been trying to get the contour plots of a chassis both modeled with a beam model and a shell model to match up but the deflections of the shell model are always about 2 times as large. It should also be noted that the deflection images are nearly exactly the same with the same deflection trends but just the magnitudes are different. The following conditions are the exact same for both: forces, location of forces, constraints, overall size, thickness and material. The only conditions that are different would be the properties as the beam model is modeled with a PBEAM and assigned the correct beamsection while the Shell model is modeled with a PSHELL card and then assigned the thickness. Are there any common errors that would be able to describe why the beam model has almost exactly half the deflection of the shell model? Thanks for any Help , reply if more info is needed.   19. Hello, I must select the all of surface in the hole. I attached the pictures. Blue surfaces will be nondesign_surface. Half of the hole is pink which is design space. However it should be blue which indicates the nondesign area.But half of the hole which i marked red circle could not selected by manuel usuage. How can i select this nonselected surface (red circle area)? Could you help me? Please answer as possible you can, Thank you
  20. Hi, I am a new user of hyperworks and i generally work with ansys workbench, I have been trying to verify the results of same mesh on both softwares but I am not able to get the same results.   21. Hello, I am looking to constrain a hole of a 3D model. I am currently using RBE2s (with all 6 DOFs on) within the hole and applying a constraint to the independent node in all 6 DOFs. Doing this I am able to successfully run the optimisation. However, I want to simulate a bar constraint where the model can rotate about the y axis but no others. I have tried deselecting the 5th DOF on both the RBE2s and constraint but this results in the optimisation failing. How do I go about applying constraints to all DOFs but 5 (moment around the y-axis)? Additionally, I am using RBE2s currently as I can apply a constraint to these. However, ideally I would be using RBE3s as these will better represent my problem. Is this possible to set up with the constraint in limited DOFs in mind? Thank you
  22. First of all, sorry if I added this question not according to the official Terms of use. It´s my first question... The problem itself is quite easy to solve i quess. I want to create a 2D mesh that is more coarse in one direction than in the other. In my case I want to have only 3 sections in the y-direction and very fine sections in x-direction. I created the geometry by first connecting 2 nodes with a linear line. Then I created a Surface by dragging along a vector. The mesh was then created by AutoMesh. Thanks in adcvance! Cheers
  23. Hi. I'm working on a vehicle frame. I supposed mechanical connections (between the tubes) as rigid elements (rbe2). But I wanted to take into account the mass of these connections. Rigid elements don't have any mass so I created concentrated mass on the independent nodes. In that way, I thought CONM2 elements were connected to the structure. But, I didn't notice any change on frame behavior (stress and displacement). I tried to add inertia properties (Card Edit>>elements>>Edit>>CONT), but it failed. I'd like to add masses that are taken into account in the post processing results... Thank you in advance
