  1. Hello, I am using an axial joint and want to to add motion to it. My questions are: 1) Which node moves relative to who? a. Node1 Moves and Node 2 Does not move b. Node 1 does not move and node move 2) If i was to assign a DOF = 1 in MOTNJG does this mean that the node moving wil move in the axial direction of my joint? Thank you!
  2. Hi, I want to run a topography optimization of a sheet metal component, but I would like to restrict the shape change with barrier mesh inside and outside due to the adjacent components. How can I do this?. Can someone help me with this concern?. I know that barrier mesh option is available in free shape optimization but I really want to make use of only Topography optimization as it is a sheet metal component. Thanks and regards, Punith
  3. Hi, My loadstep, TSTEP and NLPARM are as follows In the result, the number of the time data is 432. (Its time step is not 0.0001) I learned that when NLPARM and TSTEP are used together, DT on NLPARM overrides DT on TSTEP. This result is caused by incremental load based approach in OptiStruct?   4. Hı everyone, I want to do compressive analysis with optistruct. My compenent is Sheell so I used to PSHELL card. But the program want from me T parameter. I know T is Thickness and shoul be greater than one. but I dont know is it component thickness or other somethink. How do I adjust it. Thank you. .
  5. Hello, I'm trying to define contacts between 3 parts of my model. The model consist out of shell elements only. Tried the autocontact, connectors and contactsurfaces tool.   7. Hi,I am sorry to ask questions again. Now I am studying the structural optimization design of the automobile B-pillar. This time, there are about three minor problems to be solved. 1. I don't know how to set the variable thickness shell element. I saw the following method to set the variable thickness unit in a journal. Setting different thickness simulation shells for the four nodes of the shell element, but I don't know how to achieve it. Can you give me some advice? 2. Since currently optimized based on the B-pillar, the B-pillar components are taken out of the vehicle as shown in the following figure. How do you impose constraints on the upper and lower ends to simulate the vehicle constraints as much as possible? In other words, how to apply constraints to the B-pillar to simulate the constraints in a real vehicle.? 3. Can the size optimization in Optistruct set the coordinate value to the design variable? In addition, can velocity load be applied in optistruct? Thank you in advanced.
  8. Hi all, Been having issues with a model recently, previous versions of it have been converging but recently it seems to have just stopped converging. I've managed to get it to converge but after over an hour of processing (it should have taken 10 minutes), when viewed, there appears to be many orphan nodes. Can orphan nodes cause convergence issues? How can you get rid of them in hypermesh? Cheers Andy
  9. Hi all, I have a model with multiple contacts and have been using N2S contacts. I've found that in some of my loadcases, these contacts produce excessively and unrealistically high loads. I've checked to assure there is a sufficient gap between master and slave components and have even tried changing to S2S, PARAM EXPERTNL CNTSTB... in every case the the contact in question remains an unrealistically high stress or another contact which was previously low force suddenly becomes massive. The way I set the models up is to select contact surfaces for both slave and master and select slide option, I don't apply any clearance or srchdis values. Anyone any suggestions? Alas I cannot share the model.

Hello all! can i solve issue is like this? i have 2 plates ( but plates are not a siple form) which are separated by air. how can i solve it task? is it possible in optistruct using heat transfer analysis. i have created 2 interface convection. 1-plate blue and point 2-point and plate brown. but it doesn't work. plate blue heated (in blue plate is root of heat), but the brown plate was cooling=( Do you have any idea? thanks.
  11. Hello Altair Team, I am doing a non-linear quasi static Simulation with 2 sequential load steps. I would like to apply a force after Deformation (Load step 1) in a cetain direction for example X (local Coordinate Sys). I have tried to define a local coordinate (CORD1R) and assigned the nodes and the force to this Local System. I expected that the coordinate System move with the Body (Green coordinate system). But the results Shows, that the force will be applied according to the local coordinate direction in the beginning Situation.(Red Coordinate System) it means that the local System does not move with the Body. In hyperview, it stays at the beginning Position. Could you please give me some hints about moving local coordinate System.
  12. Hi, I am trying to learn how to run FEA on hyperworks (beginner). Eventually, I'm going to implement it for my thesis. I've followed exactly as the tutorial video tells me to do in terms of meshing, assigning material and property, load collectors and setup. As I ran the OptiStruct, it gives me error of, *** Errors with missing, incorrect or duplicate IDs found 600 times. ************************************************************************ There were 600 error messages during input processing. The first message is repeated below: *** ERROR 14: Missing property # 1 referenced by CQUAD4 # 1. *** Errors with missing, incorrect or duplicate IDs found 600 times. ************************************************************************ ==== End of solver screen output ==== ==== Job completed ==== I've read other questions, but this error seems like it's coming from assigning the wrong property. I made sure it's selected as PSOLID. My model is just a simple cube, I am not sure where this error comes from. Could you please help me going through this problem? I'm attaching the model file for your review. Please point out what I've done wrong. I'm a bit frustrated learning this software because of so many things need to be done prior to the analysis.   13. Hello Guys, I want to reanalyse my results from a topology optimization. As the part has thick walls, I don`t want to calculate with a surface-mesh. Is it possible to do a reanalysis with solid-mesh? (If yes - how?) Thank you Cheers
  14. Hi everybody, I was running a test with optistruct using two simple cubes. They are both fixed at opposite ends. Their faces are separated by 0.1 mm and can, if pushed, become engaged in a contact (type SLIDE). Type of analysis: nonlinear quasistatic. Issue: Even if I fixed both cubes at their bases and there is no applied force and no contact is engaged (shcdist=0.001 and the solver warns me that no contact elements have been defined during the analysis), the cubes translate of 2 mm as if they are moving like rigid bodies. I have already tried to constrain some more nodes, to no avail. Any explanation for this thing by anyone? Thank you in advance. Find attached my .fem file to check SHRCTOL001.fem
  15. Hello everyone!I'm performing a finite element analysis with a pair of gears and another component around this pair of gears. This system is named as "planetary gears". My model is simplified, just to see how will be the behavior of the system, I'm using the software Hypermesh with the solver OptiStruct. My question is, which degrees of freedom on "FACE 1" and "FACE 2" should I constraint to rotate "GEAR A" and "GEAR B" around the axis X.Degres of freedom:Displacement: x, y and zRotation: x, y and zI have attached the picture.   18. Hey there, since a while my Panel is cut off at the side (see screenshot - on the bottom right). Restarting the Programm / PC didn't help. Deactivating Panels in "View" and reactivating neither. Does someone know this problem and could help me with it? Thank's in advance! Cheers
  19. Hello, I am running a topology optimisation using Optistruct. I am trying to look at the key structural members of an aerospace component. I am attempting to use a low volume fraction of ~3-6%. When the volume fraction is particularly low does this effect the solver's ability to converge? Thank you in advance
  20. Hello, I was once told by a colleague before running an optimisation with optistruct to use the control parameters '-ncpu 8 -core IN'. This was to make the simulation run faster. To my understanding '-ncpu 8' ensures the simulation utilises the computers 8 cores. However, I do not know what the '-core IN' does. Can anyone offer any insight into the meaning behind this and if it actually helps with the simulation speed. Additionally, if there are any other optistruct option inputs that could be used to speed up the simulation then please let me know what they are. Thank you in advance.
  21. Hello, I would like to tetra mesh my component from a 2D mesh of trias that already exists. The 2D mesh must remain constant as it has a load applied to it that cannot be changed. The problem I am having is that the tetra mesh option 'fixed trias to tetra mesh' produces large size elements in the middle of the model. I would like to constrain the maximum size of the 3D tetra mesh so its does not increase in size in this way. Is this possible? Thank you in advance

  24. Hi everyone, i tried to implement shock absorber in a shock analysis in optistruct. I use tutorial in order to set non linear tranisient analysis. I implement with table1d and pbusht the curve ForceVSdisplacement and applying a force i have checked if the the curves is right. Then i have to checked if my model with this non linear springs has a right answer to established input. In this case the model is loaded with an initial displacement and a gravity. Finally i hate to load model with a curves VelocityVSTime. Now i'm stopped at check problem. My doubt are: the initial dislacement is inserted with IC and TIC in model but in the result there isn't initial dipslacement. Why? The tstep is calculated by solver? Is possible have a fixed timestep? maybe more simple simulate this problem with a explicit solver as Radioss? Thank you for the answeres

When creating a cylinder surface and simply creating Piles and Laminates, it is stacked with the surface as an intermediate plane as shown in the attached image. (Cylindrical surface is white line) For example, are there methods such as stacking layers from the outermost layer toward the inside? (I do not want to change the diameter of the cylinder)
