  1. Hello all, I am trying to load a femur model according to a local coordinate system. When loading in the non-desired direction for testing (Z-dir) the model node moves predictably. But when I try to load in the desired direction against the springs (X-dir), the model does some crazy twisting and weird movement. Would love some help resolving this issue. I have a suspicion it may have to do with the springs... making them very compliant still didn't solve my issue though. .fem files attached 6_25_Altair_Question.zip
  2. Hi! I try to calculate the resulting spcforces for a given displacement field on a hugh model with about 2.000.000 nodes. The displacements are applied to the model using spcs for each node and each component. This usually should be easy to calculate since the stiffness matrix does not even have to be inverted. The problem is that after the solver is finished, writing the .op2 file tooks a big amount of time...   3. Hello, I want to simulate the following mechanism I need the orange pin to slide trhough the green slot when the green slot moves due to other machanism movement. This is the configuration of contact that I used: Nodes on the all arround the slot are the slave and all of the pin elements (membrane of a 3D) is the master. And the results are these: what do you suggest i can do? What is wrong with my contact card, or what other approach do you suggest? thank you for your itme.

  6. Hello, I have been trying to assign a local coordinate system to a group of constraints and my model so that I can load it in a direction specified by the local coordinate system. Therefore, I believe I need to use the Mesh>Assign>Node Analysis System and BCs>Assign>Load Reference System for all my constraints and model nodes. However, when trying to assign the Node Analysis System, only "set displacement" works. "set reference" gives an error saying that "Nodes defining a system cannot be assigned to it". I have a feeling this is why my Optistruct simulation is quite bad. Interestingly, I tried the same method on a very simple box model in a separate model, and created a coordinate system using the nodes of the box. I was able to "Set reference" without a problem, and I could see a clear change in the OptiStruct displacements to the new local coordinate system. I am wondering why my other model does not allow me to set the reference. Any advice is very appreciated.

Hello all, I am attempting to use some RBE3 elements to apply loads and I am receiving this error: A fatal error has been detected during input processing: *** ERROR # 774 *** When a grid's component has no stiffness, then that component cannot be an independent d.o.f. in an RBE3. RBE3 id = 270584 grid id = 326669 weighted components = 123 max d.o.f with stiff = 1 Would greatly appreciate some advice regarding this. Thanks
  8. Hi everyone, I am writing here hoping someone can help me with the following problem. I have a plate which is connected to one end of a flexural spring (0.8mm thick) through FREEZE contact (please see picture below). The other spring end is fixed. I have used 2 loadsteps to perform this analysis: The plate has to translate downwards of about 1.4 mm. LGDISP non linear static analysis activated. From the position reached in the previous point, the plate must rotate about the X axis of an angle 0.25° (DOF4).LGDISP non linear static analysis activated. All displacements have been enforced through SPC. Picture of the model: I have used CNTNLSUB in order to make one subcase follow the other. Unfortunately, from other threads in this forum, I seem to have guessed the 1st loadstep loads (SPC enforced displacements in this case) must be enforced in 2nd loadstep as well. This proves to be impractical, since my final goal is to simulate bending+torsion in the flexural spring. In fact, I cannot impose the desired rotation in the 2nd loadstep because the plate has to be forced to translate downwards like it is in the 1st loastep.   9. Hi all, I am trying to produce a script which lists displayed entities. Specifically, I am looking to write a script which displays all loadsteps, then creates a list of all loadcollectors, hides then reshows them and deletes all non-displayed loadcollectors. it seems a bit long winded but my model contains loadadd loadcollectors and when I come to delete unused loadcollectors it doesn't identify any... despite there being a good number which are in no way used.   10. Hi, I have a geometry where i already reduce its size by factor of 5 in order to reduce the element number and calculation time. But, when i run the topology optimisation, its stuck at 0 iteration with 62% progress.   11. Hi, Instead of rubber bellows I have used Cbush element and given stiffness to it. I want to give preload also. I have checked we cannot give preload to cbush element. CROD,CBAR,CBEAM support for giving preload. Is there any option (spring type) to give preload and stiffness to 1D element simultaneously ? Please let me know soon. Regards, Pratik

  14. Hello, I am using 3D tet elements to model a variety of bolted flange plates. I would like to use simplified 1D beam elements as bolts, with RBE2 to connect to each part. Is there a way to use the connector panel to help make this easier? I cannot seem to figure out how to do it for 3D meshes. Also, I have not actually meshed the holes as I am trying to reduce geometric complexity - I have just included a circular "washer" surface for the RBE2 elements to grab on to. My solver is Optistruct. Thank you, Justin

  18. Hi,I am sorry to ask questions again. Now I am studying the structural optimization design of the automobile B-pillar. This time, there are about three minor problems to be solved. 1. I don't know how to set the variable thickness shell element. I saw the following method to set the variable thickness unit in a journal. Setting different thickness simulation shells for the four nodes of the shell element, but I don't know how to achieve it. Can you give me some advice? 2. Since currently optimized based on the B-pillar, the B-pillar components are taken out of the vehicle as shown in the following figure. How do you impose constraints on the upper and lower ends to simulate the vehicle constraints as much as possible? In other words, how to apply constraints to the B-pillar to simulate the constraints in a real vehicle.? 3. Can the size optimization in Optistruct set the coordinate value to the design variable?   19. Hi all, Been having issues with a model recently, previous versions of it have been converging but recently it seems to have just stopped converging. I've managed to get it to converge but after over an hour of processing (it should have taken 10 minutes), when viewed, there appears to be many orphan nodes. Can orphan nodes cause convergence issues? How can you get rid of them in hypermesh? Cheers Andy

  21. Hi all, I have a model with multiple contacts and have been using N2S contacts. I've found that in some of my loadcases, these contacts produce excessively and unrealistically high loads. I've checked to assure there is a sufficient gap between master and slave components and have even tried changing to S2S, PARAM EXPERTNL CNTSTB... in every case the the contact in question remains an unrealistically high stress or another contact which was previously low force suddenly becomes massive. The way I set the models up is to select contact surfaces for both slave and master and select slide option, I don't apply any clearance or srchdis values. Anyone any suggestions? Alas I cannot share the model.

Hello all! can i solve issue is like this? i have 2 plates ( but plates are not a siple form) which are separated by air. how can i solve it task? is it possible in optistruct using heat transfer analysis. i have created 2 interface convection. 1-plate blue and point 2-point and plate brown. but it doesn't work. plate blue heated (in blue plate is root of heat), but the brown plate was cooling=( Do you have any idea? thanks.
  23. Hello Altair Team, I am doing a non-linear quasi static Simulation with 2 sequential load steps. I would like to apply a force after Deformation (Load step 1) in a cetain direction for example X (local Coordinate Sys). I have tried to define a local coordinate (CORD1R) and assigned the nodes and the force to this Local System. I expected that the coordinate System move with the Body (Green coordinate system). But the results Shows, that the force will be applied according to the local coordinate direction in the beginning Situation.(Red Coordinate System) it means that the local System does not move with the Body. In hyperview, it stays at the beginning Position. Could you please give me some hints about moving local coordinate System.
  24. Hi, I am trying to learn how to run FEA on hyperworks (beginner). Eventually, I'm going to implement it for my thesis. I've followed exactly as the tutorial video tells me to do in terms of meshing, assigning material and property, load collectors and setup. As I ran the OptiStruct, it gives me error of, *** Errors with missing, incorrect or duplicate IDs found 600 times. ************************************************************************ There were 600 error messages during input processing. I made sure it's selected as PSOLID. My model is just a simple cube, I am not sure where this error comes from. Could you please help me going through this problem?
