  1. Hi everyone, I keep getting "WARNING ZERO OR NEGATIVE VOLUME" errors when I run my setup. I have tried using default fscaling for the material curves because I was using different units than the tutorial but that would create a weird expanding behavior and still result in the same error. I based my setup off of the crashbox tutorial but it does't address or explain this. Honeycomb IA Standard.hm
  2. Hi everybody ! I try to simulate a uniform compressive test with Radioss. I have already do this with law 70 and I succced. But When I use law 33 ( visco_plas) I can't simulate the "densification region " : the difference between green et blue curves. Between law 70 et law 33 I keep the same model and I just change properties and material of foam. Thanks in advance for your help. I copy my material law 33 and properties associated. NB: I have blocked with a rigid body and boundary conditions the face without part in contact. The blue part is the impactor , which applies a constant velocity normaly to the face.
  3. Hi everyone, I just finished running a simulation of a FSAE impact attenuator but the results didn't seem to match the test we did in real life. The 4130 steel tubes didn't bend very much and the foam compressed a lot more than it did in real life. I think I didn't setup the foam material correctly but I am not sure. Did I set my simulation up correctly? Here is the setup file and video of the results. Thanks in advance. Result Video.avi IA_Setup_4.hm
  4. Hi ! I try to simulate a foam compression at a constant speed of 1 m/s. Before I have realised the same compression experimentally. In order to compare simulation and experimental. I block every movement on bottom of foam and I imposed a constant velocity to impactor. To go to approximatively 50% of strain there is no problem, simulation and experimental are the same. But after Simulation disgress from experiemental. I use brick elements of 1x0.5x0.5cm. Anyone have an idea to solve this problem model16_0000.rad model16_0001.rad
  5. I'm new in this forum and I would appreciate some help about some topics related to an explicit analysis of a bearing. I want to analyze the behavior of a complete shaft from a gearbox to different failures for my Master’s degree project, mainly related to the frequency behavior. First, I want to check that the model is correct, so I want to analyze only one of the three bearings without any failure, to check the natural frequency with the one given by the manufacturer. I follow more or less the strategy shown in one topic of this forum ( - I have included a contact type 24 for each Rolling cilynder with each ring (total 28) using separated contact surfaces, and one additional contact between all the Rolling cylinders and the cage, same type. - The contact type 24 is defined by the next parameters: o Istf: 3 o Igap0: 1 o Fric: 0.05 o Inacti: -1 o Ifric: 1 - I have included a Cload to the inner ring by a rigid element (Z direction) and also the rotating velocity in rad/s (using the center of the Rbody), implementing both together. - The constraints are the external surface elements of the bearing and I have included also a constraint for the center of the Rbody in the movement direction of the rotation (Tx), to avoid that the inner ring could move in this direction. The results have no sense for me, because the stress, contact and reaction forces shall be located mainly on the upper area of the bearing (force in +Z direction) and they are turning with the movement of the inner ring. I have made some checks and I had no initial penetrations (penetration check), and intersections between all the rollers and the outer ring and the cage. Could be this one of the problem? Thank you. 6. UltraFluidX, NanoFluidX, Accusolve and Radioss all require a Linux operating system to utilise a GPU or Intel Phi co-processor (UltraFluidX and NanoFluidX only solve on Linux). Has anyone had experience of successfully setting up a Linux operating system to run concurrently with Windows? Altair support advise that Windows is used for pre and post processing, whilst Linux is used to run the solvers. My experience of the last 25 years is with Windows based FEA, Cosmos, Abaqus and Ansys - they all run on Windows. I don't have any experience using Linux and would be grateful if anyone could advise a basic setup to run Linux (I have Centos 7) concurrently or sequentially with Windows 10 and/or Windows Server 2012 R2. My first foray with Linux Centos didn't go well.. Current hardware is a Dell R730 server, 2 x e5-2695 CPU, 384GB RAM + 2 x Tesla K40 or 2 x Intel Phi 7220, plus HP Z840 2 x e5-2643 CPU, 256GB RAM + 2 x Tesla K40. I am thinking to dual boot Windows and Linux on the HP Z840 or install Linux, then create a virtual environment for Windows on Linux. Create studies in Windows and then solve in Linux? applying the same idea to the Dell Server. Has anyone successfully run UltraFluidX and/or NanoFluidX on similar hardware? Cheers, Neil
  7. Dear, I am building a workstation pc to solve the Crash problem and simulate CFD, aerodynamics... My goals are crash and aerodynamic problems. Can you help me understand: How long does a core Xeon CPU handle 10,000 nodes of FE model in radioss solver? Here is the configuration I tried building, please give me an advice ? Thank you very much !!! --------------------------------------------------------
  8. Hi! I created starter file using HyperCrash. How to run solver Radioss in student version? Tab solver in HyperWorls/Tools/Solver is not available in student version.
  9. Hello, I have modelled the crash assembly of our Formula Student Car. For the Barrier, Impact Attenuator and AIP I have followed the tutorial for Modeling and analysis of a honeycomb impact attenuator. Additionaly I have tried to model the Front Bulkhead and Support Structure. When I try to run the simulation it just says Radioss Job Complete in the solver window and does nothing more. I have provided the model and session file below. Maybe someone could point me in the right direction. Best regards, and thanks beforehand, Konrad Session HyperMesh.mvw Model_HyperMesh.hm
  10. Hi, I'm doing a simple compression test of this stent model as shown in the attachment. As it is cylindrically pressed, so I built a new cylindrical system. And I set up IMPDIS. However by MODELCHECKER it showed "negative or zero volment of solids". I'm wondering if the parameters of the card PSOLID correct or not? Or due to the meshing problem? Any other reasons might cause this error? Regards Chen 20200527 small vascular stent radioss .hm
  11. Hi ! I have a problem when I try to vizualise Radioss results on HyperView. My model is a foam box under a compressive uni-axial test. During Radioss execution I have no error and warning but when I try to vizualise stress or forces into foam box , I see Stress or forces are egual to zero .... However, deplacement results are not equal to zero and seems correct I attach my model and h3d file Thanks in advance for your help ! modele_eric_modifv5.hm modele_eric_modifv8.h3d
  12. Hi ! Someone know a way to estimate the time to finish simulation at the begining or the time left before the end of simulation ? 13. Hello ! I have a problem when i start my simulation from hypermesh Radioss interface ( student edition 2019 ). My simulation tries to simulate a quasi-static compressive test on polyurethane foam. When I run Radioss, the first error ID 51 appears : .. 14. Hi everyone, In HyperWorks 2019.1.1 version (HyperForm Radioss Incremental interface) i have faced some errors as you can see them below in images and descriptions. I use automated process tools. After preparation of the model, materials have 7.8e-8 density value which must be 7.8e-9 in MPa unit system. Is this change normal in automated process to increase timestep of model? In addition to this issue, after automated model preparation Begin Card has correct value of mass which is Mg.(tonne) When i export manually .rad file, Begin Card has incorrrect mass unit which is mg. Could you investigate these unexpected issues? Thank you.
  15. Hello, I am making a model of a 3 point bending test of a steel tube. I mesh the tube with shell elements. For the boundary conditions I restrict the movement of a few nodes on the zone of the supports. To apply the force I create a rigid body on the center of the tube and apply the force on the master node. What control output blocks can I use to obtain a force-displacement curve on hypergraph? Or there is another method better than this? Regards
  16. Hi, I am trying to model compression (IMPOSED DISP) of a bead (LAW40) between platens (LAW2) in radioss. Top and bottom contacts are defined using INTER/TYPE7 with the following values (Istf-4, Inacti-6, Iform-2). There is no penetration at the bottom contact, whereas penetration of bead into the top plate is seen. Any suggestions to overcome this issue? Thanks, Arun
  17. Hi friend, please help me, i want to calculate the COG (center of gravity) every component, and total COG of the model with summary feature (radioss environtment). But, when i used M-ADV1 (distribute mass) and choose the visualization node. but the COG is affected by the placement of visualization node? even though it used distribute mass (M-ADV 1)? is there a way to model the admass that not affected by the placement of visualization node? so we can get "more real" behaviour of distribute mass? I search in this forum, and found same topic, but there is no solution i think i'm sorry for my bad English Thank you before nb: i attached 2 simplify model (radioss 2017 environtment) all same but the placement of visualization node is not in same place. the COG in summary is totally different CENTER VISUALIZATION.hm SIDE VISUALIZATION.hm
  18. Hello everyone, I want to make a failure analysis using LaRC03 criteria. I would like to know if it is possible to use ESAComp and export data in a Radioss format. Regards, Antonin
  19. Hi I am trying to perform a (transient) thermal analysis where a composite plate is subjected to radiation. The plate consists of 2 plies, the one on top is made of glass, the one on the bottom is made of aluminium. The radiation needs to go trough the glass and then reaches the aluminium plate. The aluminium absorbs almost all of the radiation, the glass mainly lets the radiation trough and reflects it. How would I model this? Is it possible to do a thermal simulation like this with hyperworks software, like optistruct or radioss? I already looked at the tutorials but they don't match my case. I also tried acusolve but here it is not possible either because radiation through glass cannot be simulated properly.
  20. Hi all, I've been tasked with a problem and need to get my head around LaGrange-Eulerian contact. Overview. I have a plate structure positioned over an explosive. The Structure is mesh size 10mm. The explosive, air and ground are eulerian elements 25mm size. Problem When the explosive strikes the structure, one of two things occur. Either the volume fraction of explosive penetrates the plate and the plate deforms (I find this occurs with Stfval = 38500, gap = 38) or the volume fraction of explosive does not penetrate the plate but the plate remains largely undeformed with very small displacement (I find this occurs with Stfval > 100,000, gap = 38). Am assuming speed of sound to be 3000m/sec (best I could find for explosive). To my mind, the volume fraction should not penetrate the plate. Am a bit puzzled by the apparent lack of deflection in the structure when the explosive hits the structure. Output for the contact is giving me approximately the same force in all cases - although higher values of Stfval are giving higher forces (between 6.5-8e6N). There does seem to by much more contact energy in the lower Stfval runs. So I am tad confused. Any help would be much appreciated. Andy
  21. Hi, I work sloshing in the basic rectangular tank with the SPH method. I will try to sloshing in a more complex structure in the future. I'm new to Radioss solver and SPH method. For this reason, there are a few things I would like to consult with you. It is clear that as the pitch size decreases, the number of particles formed increases. Increased number of particles will also increase accuracy and solution time. How is the ideal number of particles determined? I can read contact reaction force and pressure in the model I created. But as with the CFD, is it possible for me to read the fluid pressure? During sloshing, is the value I read from the pressure gauge on the test apparatus the same as the value I read on the contact surface? Thank you for your help

  23. Hi, I would like to perform constituent material property calibration (tow and matrix) in Hyperstudy by coupling Multiscale Designer and Radioss models, similar to: https://www.altair.com/resource/using-radioss-hyperstudy-and-multimech-for-improved-composite-design https://www.altair-gmbh.de/resource/using-hyperstudy-and-multimech-for-advanced-composite-material-design I need to write the solver script that would generate a multiscale material model at each iteration. The Multiscale Designer graphical user interface does not show the commands that are used in the back end programs. Edit: The command lines can be found in the MDS user manual. There is a command for Homogenized Linear Material Export, but the command for multiscale material export is missing. Is this command not available or just missing in the manual?
  24. Hello, I need a help with procedure please.? I am able to create the adhesive brick elements mesh using optistruct (3D - connectors - area - "constant thickness" as Hexathickness - type "adhesives" ) in student version (Hypermesh 2019) (as in the image). But in Radioss ( Block format 140) (Hypermesh 2017.2), the same process is not working. While using the same procedure, I get the surface connector (as below) without thickness (even while creating through: 3D - connectors - area - "adhesive(contact)" as type). But I would like to create the brick elements. Also, I would like to do hexa positioning it with "mid thickness" option and I couldn't change the "shell gap" option to the "mid thickness" with the drop down (as shown in the highlighted below). Could anyone please tell me if it is possible and also how to create it in the Radioss.? Thanks in advance!
