  1. Hi Everyone, I am writing a script to export all the data from a simulation into text files. I however encounter a problem when I try to export stresses, strains and state variables: expected integer but got "". The script is based on the one from here. What am I missing?   2. Hi ! I have a problem when I try to vizualise Radioss results on HyperView. My model is a foam box under a compressive uni-axial test. During Radioss execution I have no error and warning but when I try to vizualise stress or forces into foam box , I see Stress or forces are egual to zero ....   3. Hello, I compared maximum stress of my model in a linear static analysis with different materials. I went from steel to 7075 aluminum (lower youngs modulus and higher cross contraction number). The rest of my model including the load cases stayed the same and i expected the stress to be higher in the case of aluminum because of its lower youngs modulus. But the exact opposite was the case. How can this be explained? I did some research and found this quote in a PDF from altair (https://www.altairuniversity.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/postproc.pdf) : "Changing the material will not require rerunning the analysis for stress (in case of linear static analysis) and a decision could be taken just by comparing the maximum stress value with the yield / ultimate strength of the material" So i get different stresses in a linear static analysis with different materials, but this quote says an analysis rerun is not required. I am confused. I highly appreciate if anyone has an explanation for this. Thank you very much, Johannes

  5. Hi all, I had modeled a steel Plates of two Cases of Same config as shown in fig. Case :1 2D PLATE 2mm Thickness, F=140N(10N/14 Nodes), constraints at opposite end. Case :2 3D hex Plate 2mm Thickness with 2 Layer of Mesh, F=140N(10N/14 Nodes), constraints at opposite end. Clarification required : 1. Both plates are same in Boundary conditions , dimensions and material property. only the element type varies but why the stress induced is different ?

Dear, I did a sweep calculation for a Degas Bottle, the frequency range is from 15Hz to 100Hz, acceleration level is 3g, when I got the response stress after the model frequency simulation, I outputted the stress tensor of the most critical element, but I found there are 12 stress tensor in the pch file, so how the hyperview use these tensor to get the plot stress? I could not find the way. Meanwhile, how the Optistruct calculate the damage based on the response stress, I mean how to calculate the cycles at interested frequency, I know the help document, but it doesn't tell too much.   7. hi all I have just started to use hyperview. I open gpforce and gpstress cards and load the results. I understand that hyperview shows element stress. However i could not find nodal stress values? How can i see the nodal stress? Best Regards
  8. Does anyone know how to make the stress change with each displacement step in an optistruct simulation? Currently when I have it show me the stress heat map, it doesn't change at each displacement step.
  9. Hello everyone, I'm trying to set up a direct transient analysis of the beam you see in the picture below (simplified geometry): The beam is meshed with tetra elements. On top the beam is constrained in all dof. In the middle of the beam is a hump and the mass of it has an influence on the eigenfrequency of the beam. At the lower end of the beam a periodically enforced displacement in the range of the eigenfrequency (3 kHz < f < 4 kHz) of the beam is applied. With the FE analysis I want to get information about the following questions: What is the stress at the top of the beam? Later I would like to get information about fatigue. What is the eigefrequency of the beam? What is the exact displacement of the hump in the middle of the beam when a certain displacement is applied at the lower end with its eigenfrequency? So far I've tried to adapt the tutorial "OS-T: 1310 Direct Transient Dynamic Analysis of a BracketOS" to my purposes but I have problems with applying the periodically enforced displacement. Can someone tell me what the best way is to realize this problem with optistruct? Hi, i have two questions/problems for now 1) Is there a way to perform Stress Analysis without using a flexbody? 2) when i create a flexbody and define a contact at the Body, an error was shown when i tried to run the model. (Entity Model-PartBody.2 is turned off but is referenced by Model-Contact 3-jg_1. [General]) thanks in advance.
  11. Hello, I am in need of help setting up an Optistruct run. I want to optimize wall thickness with a upper limit on stress. I have used a 2D automesh and I have a DTPL that veries wall thickness of the main body a base of 1.0mm to 10mm (defined by material property). I have the objective of the Optimization to Minimize VolFrac, and the responses set to VolFrac and StaticStress. Lastly I have set the upper bound of StaticStress to be the Failure stress with a OptimizationConstraint. Whenever I run the Optimization the wall thickness does not very with every iteration (stays at 1.0mm). Attached is my .hm model. Is there a tutorial that shows you how to do this? Thanks!   12. Hi Everyone, I am working with Radioss. I use TYPE 7 contact for this model. I wanted to check whether my model is working regarding with displacement or stress result for my BCs. But after analysis result it shows nothing every displacement result is zero and low Stress (Can see animation in this link https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1jccvEqdd7xk5u3Zi_QyirAPrZYkpptGM). Before created this topic, I learnt RD-T3530 and RD-T3595. Can anyone take a look into my model whats wrong or what change I have to make. Thank you in advance.   13. i'm an engineering student and I studied that the stress xx value in a plane 4 node element should vary linearly with the y coordinate and so should do the stress yy in the x direction, does anyone know how to see the stress gradient inside a single element? (e.g. with a control card or I don't know how) cause averaging method is nosense in this case since i want to know the values of stress inside that element without carying of what happen near to that element. thanks in advance.
  14. Hello, I have a double supported beam that I have divided into a non-design and design space. After running an optimization and generating the structure with ossremesh I did an FEA reanalysis on the model. When checking the stress contours I noticed that their were discontinuities between the design and non-design space. Running edge and face equivalence showed that there were no unconnected nodes. Both the design space and non-design space have the same material, but located in different properties. What could be the problem? Thank you, -Eric
  15. Hi there, I've run a simulation of the chassis of a car through Optistruct in Hyperview, and there were no errors and everything seemed to run well. However, upon loading into Hyperview, I am unable to view the contour plots for stress/strain/displacement and the four subcases. I am expecting to get a model like Image 1, however am getting image 2. It is as if there are no loads applied to the chassis. If anyone is able to view the model (file attached) and perhaps indicate where I am going wrong it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Chassis_scaled_newI.hm

  17. Hello all, For stress analysis, I want to show the stress value of some nodes, in order to make a screenshot for documentation. To do this I put a note on the selected node, and in the note i write {entity.contour_val}. Now the problem is, that i get the value of the selected node and all of the nodes surrounding it. But i only want the stress value of that particular node. Does anyone know what to do? Thank you in advance.
  18. Hi to everybody, i have this problem and i hope that someone is able to help me please. I want to perform the stress analysis of some bodies connected to each other and belonged to an assembly (the assembly is a wheelchair moving on the street) , but the stress only of those bodies not of the whole assembly. I saw that one way is using flex body to model the bodies, and it's the only way that i know to check the stress in motionsolve, but it happened this error: ERROR: Error encountered in analysis! (1) The integration has become unstable. Tighten (decrease) integr_tol, h_max, or both in Param_Transient can help stabilize the integration. If the simulation contains distinctive phases, use multiple Simulate, each with its own proper integrator parameter setting, to selectively tighten the tolerance during the period where instability is encountered. (2) If the simulation was terminated because stepsize has diminished consistently below h_min, reduce h_min in Param_Transient to force integration to continue. (3) Non-physical inertia properties, such as mass=100 Kg and Ixx=Iyy=Izz=1 Kg*mm^2, or extremely small inertia on a part with an unconstrained degree of freedom. Make sure the modeling data, in particular the part inertia and the gravity, are specified in proper units consistent with the units given in Param_Unit element. (4) Beam, flexible body goes out of linear range, bushing has large rotation along more than one axis, curve goes out of its interpolation range, higher-pair joint goes out of the range of U or V, etc. Make sure fundamental modeling assumptions, such as rigid contact assumption used in Force_Contact, are not violated. (5) Motion displacement defined using LINSPL, AKISPL in dynamic analysis, or as a function of model states (DX, VX etc), as well as forces defined as a function of other forces, can cause hard convergence and integrator failure. Avoid these modeling practices wherever possible. has anyone some suggest? or is there another method to check the stress analysis in motionsolve,maybe without using flex body? thank you very much

As far as I understand, the mises stress at the middle of the shell element is membrene stress, and the mises stress at the surface of the shell element is sum of the membrene stress and bending stress. and the hyperview can show the stress of the mid layer and both surface layer of the elements.(Z1, Z2, or Max) How can I show the contour plot of only the bending stress of the element ? I mean that I want to get the contour plot of value of ((Z1, Z2 or Max) - Mid layer ). Thanks for your help in advance.
  20. Hello, I'm trying to create a flexible body file by using Craig-Bampton Method. I need to write nodal stress values into the .h3d result file. From the global output request menu, I choose the stress option with corner location, then an ordinary analysis that has standard loadstep (for example linear static case) is run, and i can obtain the corner values. whereas, for the flexibody generation case, the nodal stress values are not written in the h3d file. Is there any way to obtain corner stress values in a .h3d result file for a flexible body generation?
