Hi, I am new doing heat transfer analysis with OptiStruct, and I need to solve the following problem: 2 coaxial cylinders (see image below) The inner Surface of the external cylinder (blue) is generating a heat flux, which makes to increase the internal cylinder temperature (by convection). I need to know the temperature of the small cylinder (yellow) and I don´t know how to proceed to solve this kind of problems. What are the guidelines to solve this problem? Thanks in advance!
  2. Hello, I am performing thermal simulation using Flux2D and I want to import Bertotti losses distribution from magnetostatic model using Python script. When I run the .py script I receive the following error: Unknown argument: Bertotti_losses_distribution_stator_lamination_2D This argument must be defined in your jython session before usage. Do you have any idea about that? Could you help me, please? Thanks.

Hi, I am performing a thermal simulation of PMSM using Flux2D but when I start solving the execution fails after a few seconds and the following error appears: PBCEVL_3 => Failed PBERES_3 => failed FL5RE4 => Command not executed correctly FL5ERS => failed FL5ERS_1 => failed executeAlgo => failed executeAlgo : Execution failed.   4. Hi, I did induction heating simulation in Flux2D . I try to define my substrates from isotropic to anisotropic on resisitivity - which means the Y-direction value become much smaller. Then I hit the solver but it says the it is not correctly converge. What can I changed to make it happen? Best, Jerome.
  5. Hi All, is there a way to perform a thermo-structural analysis of two bodies in contact, in which the energy related to the contact tangent force is converted to heat?   6. Hi I am doing some test calculations in optistruct. I have a very thin plate with basically no mechanical strength and stiffness, attached to a plate with moderate strength and stiffness. When I heat up both plates I get deformations due to thermal expansion which are expected. Now when I only heat up the very thin plate, the deformations due to thermal expansion are higher compared to the previous case (so also the thick plate now has higher deformations even if it is not thermally expanding). This made me wonder the following: is material stiffness is neglected in a thermal expansion analysis?
  7. Hi I am trying to perform a (transient) thermal analysis where a composite plate is subjected to radiation. The plate consists of 2 plies, the one on top is made of glass, the one on the bottom is made of aluminium. The radiation needs to go trough the glass and then reaches the aluminium plate. The aluminium absorbs almost all of the radiation, the glass mainly lets the radiation trough and reflects it. How would I model this? Is it possible to do a thermal simulation like this with hyperworks software, like optistruct or radioss? I already looked at the tutorials but they don't match my case. I also tried acusolve but here it is not possible either because radiation through glass cannot be simulated properly.
  8. Hello all, I need to perform a Thermal Analysis on a Satellite. In order to do it so simulating the space thermal environment is needed.   9. Hello, I want to make a thermal simulation of a cooling plate in hyperworks with the AcuSolve Solver. The geometry would be this: Where an aluminium cooling plate (the grey solid) is in contact with a water flow (blue volume). The problem is that I can't get a mesh with coincident nodes between both volumes, taking into acount that for the AcuSolve simulation I need two surfaces in the interface between the solid and the liquid volume. Do you have any solution for it? Thanks in advance.

  11. Hello, I want to make a thermal simulation with the solver acusolve in hypermesh. In this simulation i hahave a control volume (water) that flows through a a cold plate i n contact with multiple solids with a heat source. The problem is that when I make the mesh in hypermesh it does not make coincident nodes between txo different volumes, as it does in acuconsole. What should I define te make the nodes in the shared surfaces between different volumes coincident? Thank you

Dear All, I'm using HM as a pre-processor and optistuct as a solver. want to simulate following condition shaft of size =10.000 mm and housing = 9.999 mm(interference of 1 micron) when i'm trying to rotate shaft using motor by keeping fixed housing. 150 degree temp is generated. want to observe the effect of temp on contact pressure and deformation of housing ID and Shaft OD. model is setup is done as per NLQS. what extra i need to incorporate to observe above effect regards, Ganesh
  13. Hi Everybody, I am trying to simulate the residual strain on different ply's of a laminate due to different rates of cooldown. I was planning to do this with a heat transfer analysis (transient) but I believe that composites are not supported in transient heat transfer. Is it possible to perform a sort of transient analysis applying a Delt Tº in the different time frame? I was thinking to do this with TLOAD1 with excited a TEMPD and a Table1 Is this approach correct? Thank you beforehand

  15. Hello Guys! I'm trying to perform an Thermal/Structural Analysis in Optistruct. But, I didn't found on tutorials, how can I input some structural loads, like forces, pressures and moments, working together with thermal loads, like heat flux and convection. I wish to learn how can i do this in a Steady-State and Transient Analysis. Would you help me? The model is a brake disc with a brake torque. Thanks in advance!
  16. Hello! I'm triyng to do a thermal/estructure analysis. I Would to know how the program works with the changing on Young's Modulus, because of the increase of temperature on material. By tutorials, I set up MAT 1 and turn on MAT 4, to thermal properties. But, don't have any relation between the shape of Young's modulus and temperature. Thanks in advance!
  17. Hello, I have been trying to understand and adapt the Radioss Thermal Example (RD-5300), in order to make it represent the stress relief procedure. Alternatively, as the time of operation is relatively short, one might think of it as a welding process, with a lot of heat input into the material and generating large temperature gradients. I have been using HW2017.2. The assumptions are as follows: 1. The "weld" along a square trajectory is subject to a high thermal load from the "Source". 2. The "Source" has a constant temperature of 1300 K, and transfers heat through Inter/Type7 to the plate. The coefficient of exchange is high (1000 units), in order to provide a lot of heat in limited time. 3. The heat transfer is based on the actual temperatures of both components (i.e. Ithe=1). 4. The convection heat transfer coefficient is arbitrarily chosen as 1.0, and the ambient temperature is set to 298 K. 5. The initial temperature of the plate is 298 K, i.e. it is the room temperature. Now, the results are puzzling. I particular, I obtain some negative temperatures on the contour plot, and there are temperature "waves"/"oscillations" on the model. I suppose it is associated with the thermal stability conditions and the mesh sizing, but - RADIOSS does not generate any warning - I guess the Help system has some gaps in the relevant topic, and I am not able to figure out how to correct the model. In particular, /DT/THERM, according to the Help page seems to require no parameters, whereas I suppose it should work like /DT or /DT/NODA. I find as well the /THERMAL topic very limited, and I do not know how to properly use the time scaling for thermal material data - In particular, I do not now to interpret the time stability limit. Should the time chosen be smaller than the one calculated from the formula, or rather larger? - In the help system, I could not find hints on correct meshing for a thermal transient problem - I was not able to find a means of making Radioss (or HyperMesh, or HyperView) estimate and present the local values of thermal stable time step, and the time step chosen for the simulation seems to be derivced from the standard "mechanical" Courant condition.   19. Hello, i am doing the Optistruct tutorial OS1090 and can't find "heat_transfer_fin.fem" file neither in Hyperworks installation folder nor via Altair connect. I tried by my self but when it comes to select nodes via ID and there is no picture showing the nodes position i am stuck. Please sb. help me finding the tutorials base-files. Regards, Björn
  20. Hello, I am trying to figure out how to model the heat generation on a brake rotor during braking using Optistruct. Are there any guides that describe this process or something similar to this? How would you approach this? The total energy of the system is known and will be evenly distributed over three brake rotors to stop the vehicle in a given time. Now, I need to model the maximum temperature reached.
  21. Hi All, I have a question involving the HyperMesh preprocessor. I'm trying to run a transient thermal analysis, where there is a consistent base boundary condition, and convection is applied, but only after a delay. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to apply convection partway through the analysis. For example, I'm allowing the part to heat for 25 seconds, and then turning a fan on and blowing on it for the last 25. I have my TLOAD1, TABLED1, SPCD, and SPC collectors for convection, but I can't figure out how to apply this delay. I tried setting the TABLED1 value to 0 for the first 25 seconds, but that just sets temperature to zero I believe. I imagine the DELAY_OPTION would be helpful, but I don't know how. Thanks very much for any help you can provide.

  25. Hello, I am working on a project to simulate the cooling phase in an enamelling process. I simply generated a composite cantilever beam with two different materials to obtain the stresses and displacements during cooling process. I will cool down the composite cantilever beam from an elevated temperature to room temperature. The problem is, I am new to thermal boundary conditions and I can't find the correct load collector combination to handle the problem. To summarize the simulation; 1. Structure is at 350 degrees celcius and it will cool down to 20 degrees celcius. 2. Due to thermal expansion coefficent difference, the composite beam will deform. Thanks in advance!
