  1. Hi All, I am selecting component using *createmarkpanel comps 1 " " ; Now i want to know selected component contains 2d 0r 3d element; Regards, PD
  2. Hi, I've working with a model defined with shell finite elements on Hypermesh 13 and have been having trouble after the definition of the properties cards of the model. When I specify the thickness of the surface, a lot of penetrations (on more than 2000 elements) appear on my model and the automatic fix tool doesn't seem to work on them. I've verified and there aren't any geometrical intersections on the surfaces. My questions are: How can I avoid such problems or configure the model in order to prevent them? When defining the thickness of a surface, this surface is assumed to be a mid plane so the thickness is distributed equally to both sides? Can this be modified? Thank you in advance for your help.
  3. Hello dear forum visitors, AFDEX 3D can read AFDEX 2D results files either directly or by means of a simple connecting program, and thus 2D and 3D combined simulations can easily be carried out. Of course, the 2D results can be viewed by the 3D post-processor with more powerful graphics functions. Figure 1. shows the predictions of a five-stage precision cold forging process involving one piercing stage and a final three-dimensional stage, obtained by using the 2D and 3D combined simulation capability with minimum user intervention (i.e., with only an initial run and one connection run). Figure 1: 2D and 3D combined simulation - AFDEX It should be noted that this capability is especially efficient for fastener forming process simulation. The 2D and 3D combined simulation is strongly recommended for enhancing computational time, solution reliability, and engineering productivity when relatively few stages are three-dimensional. So it's time to use your resources smartly. Cheers from AFDEX Support team!
  4. Hi, how can I set the material orientation of the 2d elements along the circumferential direction of this ring profile? picture attached. thank you, arh423
  5. Hi there, my problem is as followes: i built up a squarish composite plate (carbon) with orthotropic material property. I edited the laminate with "symmetric" option to realize the orthotropic material behave. Now my problem is that I want to check the material behave varying ply direction and ply thickness. So the plate should obtain 10 mm height on the left edge and 9 mm on the right edge to simulate an angular load initiation, Now the symmetric laminate option causes a result which I dont want to realize (see attachment). Can you tell me how to realize that? Maybe with shell to solid conversion (how do i get there?)? Regards
  6. Hey, I have the following issue during meshing my 2D airfoil with an obtuse trailing edge: I would like to mesh my airfoil like that: BL-Mesh with quad elements from leading edge to trailing edge (upper and lower part of airfoil) and the vertical area at the trailing edge (photo: yellow 1D elements) with tria elements (therefore farfield instead of wall) in order to avoid the quad mesh around the trailing edge (see photo with red quad BL elements). However, when doing this with the Tool "2D Native BL Mesh Planar" it says "selected elements do not form closed loop" (see photo). Therefore I would like to ask, if there is a possibility to avoid quad elements at a certrain part around the airfoil with the Tool 2D Native BL Mesh (Planar)... Or is there a possibility to delete the quad elements around the trailing edge and remesh this area? Thank you very much in advance for your help! Cheers, Martin
  7. Hi all, Does anyone know if there is a tool in Hypermesh which says the average element size of a 2D mesh? I could use the measure tool and get the distance between two nodes of an element, but I am interested in get the average of all elements. Thanks in advance, Alex
  8. Hello! We have the following problem by using OSSmooth for a FEA reanalysis: Our component is made up of a core (blue) and a shell (red/orange). The core has Hex 8 3D-Elements with the Card Image MAT 1 and PSolid. In order to create a shell around the core of the component, we used the tool "Find Faces". Thus we got a shell around the core with Quad 4 2D-Elements. We used the Card Image MAT8 and PShell with an offset to the outside T=2mm. Therefore there should be no intersection between the two kinds of elements (see figure 1). Both the core and the shell was defined as design space so that we optimized them both in a successful optimization. See figure 2: Holes and notches were created in the shell as well as in the core. Afterwards, we tried to import the optimized geometry with OSSmotth by using the following settings: FEA Reanalysis, iso surface, remesh, trias as mesh type and two layers attached. As a result the 3D-Elements has been updated according to the optimization result, but not the shell (see figure 3). Furthermore we got a very questionably visualization of the shell elements: At the attachment points between core and shell, the shell elements strangely stick to the outside and inside (see figure 4 and 5). Are there any mistakes in our settings or in the modelling? Thank you very much in advance for your tips and advices! Greetings Martin
  9. Hi, I have been doing some size and composites optimizations and have been working with 2D elements. I want to export the geometry including the results of the thickness of my elements/plys to visualize in other prgramms (eg iges, step). Is this possible? if so how? thanks Diego

    2D problem

Dear all, Is there a possibility to solve a 2D problems with FEKO? I need it to reduce the required RAM and increase the computational speed.
  11. Hello, I am trying to build a rigid mbd model with rigid bodies engaging in 2D rigid-to-rigid contact. I have defined curves where the contacts will occur, using the Add Curve functionality. Attached images 1.png, 2.png and 3.png from my curve panel, showing the settings I am using for all three contact curves. As you can see, in the Z direction, they all have the same value as 0. So they are indeed coplanar as they all line on the XY plane. I proceed to define a 2D rigid-to-ridig contact. Attached image, contact.png, shows my settings for one of the contacts I use. I have also made sure to correctly define the contact sides; so there are no problems there either. Finally, attached image, error.png, shows two of the error messages I'm getting. All my error messages are the same so I am only showing those two. It is telling me my curve graphics are not coplanar. However, what it seems is that they actually are indeed coplanar. I would be grateful for any help to fix this problem. Best regards
  12. Hi guys, I'm doing a shape optimization on some elements of a 2D Pshell and a size optimization of the shell with optistructoptions : -nt=8 -ln=12000 and i've got an error at the end of the iteration 0 : **** Error 8016 in datamr() during "expand" operation. 13. Dear users! I have one problem when solving static analysis of 2D plate model As you can see, the setting of analysis with 3 components Var 6-1, DS, Var6-3. Everything seem be fine because the process of solving is done without any warning. But when I open results analysis in hyperwork, only component Var6-3 appear, the other 2 components DS + Var6-1 disappeared from result. Can you please give me some suggest for this problem? Thanks you in advance!
  14. Hello Guys, I have the following questions: - I just made a 2d Mesh and would like to export the mesh data for an external solver. This solver accepts CGNS-Mesh files. Is it possible to create a CGNS-file via Hypermesh Export? - Is it possible to create a structured 2D Mesh in HyperMesh with quads in which the quads take their orientation from geometry (e.g. lines or curves) so that the Mesh is really clean and structured? Thank you very much in advance! Regards
  15. Hi all, im doing the CFD-1300: Plane 2D Meshing with BL tutorial. But even following the tutorial this error appears (attached image) How can i solve that? Thanks
  16. Hi everyone, What is better approach to connect a 2D shell element to a 1D element? I have a assembly with 3 components, 1 bracket modeled by 2D elements which carries the load, 1 plate modeled by 2D elements likewise, where the bracket is lay and also, shall be interface component between bracket and beam component and 1 beam component modeled by 1D elements where loads and displacements must be transfered. The connection between bracket and plate was modeled by Cbush elements which represents bolts stiffness, therefore, my concern is how can I model the connection between plate and beam to represent a weld? I have attached a picture which it clarifies my problem. The green one is a bracket, red is a plate and magenta is a beam. Thank you, Richard
