  1. I would like to quantify the effect of the eccentricity of the translator of the attached actuator. The device is a 2-D axisymmetric reluctance actuator. The attached simulation only contains the permanent magnet, the pole shoes, and the core. I am only interested in the effects between the permanent magnet and the steel parts. I failed to create a 3-D FLUX file that captures the eccentricity of the translator (composed of the permanent magnet and the pole shoes). Any help would be appreciated. Hi all, I would like your opinion for a quassi static analysis I am performing that includes 3d contact between a rectangular plate with a bolt hole fitted, a bushing that will be inserted with an interference fit into the plate's bolt hole and an external load. I am thinking to perform the analysis in two steps: First, calculate the stresses from the interference fit of the bushing (no external load). Second (continued from the first step) apply the external load (can be a force, or a pressure load). The question is: what kind of boundary condition will be applied on the bushing during the second step to "lock" it in place to ensure that the bushing will not move in the vertical plane or exhibit a rotation of some kind? Do we need to apply any BC to the bushing? Thank you for advance for your assistance.
  3. Hello, I am doing the "SPM_Motor_Flux_3D.pdf" tutorial, and in page 15 there is a file named "Create_NonMesh_Coils_SPM.py" that I have to Run. I can not find it in my PC. Could you please tell me the exact directory where I can get it?, or much better, if you could send it to me I would appreciate it. Hello, I am doing the IPM_Motor_Flux_3D.pdf tutorial from Flux 2019.1, and when I reach page 12 of the "3D Overlay to create the geometry" (after I enter all the values to Create Non Meshed Coil and press OK) I got the following error message: Error message: Failed convert object : class cast error. Desktop updating step failed. I can not skip it because the winding parameters are very important to the study that I am doing. Hope you can help me with this. Thank you in advance Best regards.
  5. Dear all, I have a question about stranded coil conductors using non-meshed coils. I have performed two transient simulations with non-meshed coils in 3D for a transverse flux machine. For the first simulation I entered 100 mOhm in the field "Resistance Formula" of the stranded conductor. For the second simulation I entered 5 mOhm. The geometry as well as the material parameters and number of turns were the same for both simulations. For both simulations, the non-meshed coil was part of an electric circuit. I assumed that the resistance value is calculated via FLUX using the resistance formula R=rho*l/A and that the value entered in the "Resistance Formula" field (stranded coil conductor) does not matter if the specific resistance as well as the fill factor are specified for the non-meshed coil. However, the result for the evaluated resistance is different for both simulations. Preset value of 100 mOhm --> evaluated resistance = 106 mOhm Preset value of 5 mOhm --> evaluated resistance = 11 mOhm The evaluated resistance of the non-meshed coil is the same for both simulations: 3 mOhm. Why is there a difference between the evaluated value of the non-meshed coil and of the stranded conductor? I assumed, this should be the same? Therefore, could you please tell me, how the evaluated resistance of the stranded coil conductor is determined? Is it important, to enter the "right" value in the field "resistance formula"?   6. Hello dear forum visitors, AFDEX 3D can read AFDEX 2D results files either directly or by means of a simple connecting program, and thus 2D and 3D combined simulations can easily be carried out. Of course, the 2D results can be viewed by the 3D post-processor with more powerful graphics functions. Figure 1. shows the predictions of a five-stage precision cold forging process involving one piercing stage and a final three-dimensional stage, obtained by using the 2D and 3D combined simulation capability with minimum user intervention (i.e., with only an initial run and one connection run). Figure 1: 2D and 3D combined simulation - AFDEX It should be noted that this capability is especially efficient for fastener forming process simulation. The 2D and 3D combined simulation is strongly recommended for enhancing computational time, solution reliability, and engineering productivity when relatively few stages are three-dimensional.   8. I imported a 3D solid element. When I supposed to mesh using Tetramesh, only surface mesh alone be used to mesh. I cant use Solidmesh. May i know the reason please... Thank you in advance.

  11. Dear all, Lately I am having some problems solving a problem that might seem "trivial", however I am still having problems getting some meaningful results. As seen from the files attached, the problem consists of two aluminium plates connected with a steel bolt and a bushing. There is a press fit of 0,2mm (if I remember well) between the bushing and the two plates. The upper plate has one of its sides fixed and a compressive force of 90 kN is acted on the lower plate. Although I have simulated the contact* between all components (plates, bolt, bushing) and ran a quassi static NL analysis, I keep getting extremely high stresses at the area seen on the attached picture. It is probably some mistake with the contact there but I cannot find it. Please have a look on the attached .hm file. There are no contacts defined to allow you to use your own approach to the problem. You can use any of the latest HM versions to setup the problem.   12. Hi, I am a newbie with HyperMesh and I do not really know how to do this... I am trying to model a thin thickness semisphere with a shell mesh but the middle of the semisphere it has to be meshed with 3D elements for crack analysis purpose. It will be very useful if someone knows how to create a mesh of the midsurface and how to convert a part of that mesh to a HEX mesh, or an alternative method to do this because I am really lost with this. If the model is for example a planar plate, it is very easy to do this defining two different parts, a midsurface and a solid part,but with curved objects I am having trouble... Regards. Gus.
  13. In Fig. 1, it is a screenshot of a 3D solid that I plan to mesh, I have a very thin slice at the top (please see circled region in Fig. 2). 1. I meshed the top surface as shown in Fig. 3. 2. I plan to use solidmap to mesh the top slice first, and then mesh the rest of the 3D solid. I select all the surface elements as my source elements, I select the bottom of the top slice as my destination surface. I select one side surface as my "along geom" (as shown in Fig. 4) 3. After I click mesh, an error message shows up "Term-face-edge has a srong side-face edge idx" and several faces become white as shown in Fig. 5. Would you please tell me what is the reason for this?   14. Hello! We have the following problem by using OSSmooth for a FEA reanalysis: Our component is made up of a core (blue) and a shell (red/orange). The core has Hex 8 3D-Elements with the Card Image MAT 1 and PSolid. In order to create a shell around the core of the component, we used the tool "Find Faces". Thus we got a shell around the core with Quad 4 2D-Elements. We used the Card Image MAT8 and PShell with an offset to the outside T=2mm. Therefore there should be no intersection between the two kinds of elements (see figure 1). Both the core and the shell was defined as design space so that we optimized them both in a successful optimization. See figure 2: Holes and notches were created in the shell as well as in the core. Afterwards, we tried to import the optimized geometry with OSSmotth by using the following settings: FEA Reanalysis, iso surface, remesh, trias as mesh type and two layers attached. As a result the 3D-Elements has been updated according to the optimization result, but not the shell (see figure 3). Furthermore we got a very questionably visualization of the shell elements: At the attachment points between core and shell, the shell elements strangely stick to the outside and inside (see figure 4 and 5). Are there any mistakes in our settings or in the modelling? Thank you very much in advance for your tips and advices! Greetings Martin

  17. Hello, I am trying to 3D mesh this solid part by using solid mapping. I tried "trim with surf" to make the part mappable but I don't think I can create surfaces/divisions good enough for solid mapping.I am also attaching the partially trimmed version. Which method I should follow to make the rectangular sides mappable and get rid of the red layer in the cylindrical part? Thank you in advance, Muge

  19. Hi, I have been working in flux 2d for the past two months. I am now trying to shift to 3d models to explore acoustics and thermal aspects of the induction motor model. I'm using the induction motor overlay and mesh using the mesh domain command with some changes in the aided mesh. I have received the following error message: The PERIODICITY PeriodicityNumberZaxis can not be taken into account Faces of the constraints without reference face: 234 1686 317 502 1386 1389 2063 2014 1489 1700 1753 1854 777 1172 830 1154 1158 865 use the LINKED mesh generator I had encountered similar errors in the 2D modeling as well which used to get solved using a linked mesh line. I tried the same method using the mesh generator and linked the above faces, but it isn't working. I also tried the method of using a complete infinite box which also didn't work. On checking the mesh I received the message attached below which divided the faces into three groups. So I tried applying three different mesh generators and linked each of the three groups separately, which again resulted in the same periodicity error. Also on using the mesh generator I get the message that the faces 1382 and 1686 are linked to themselves. Also how do you set individual faces or volumes that were set as invisible back to visible?   20. Hi all, I was running optistruct 13.0 in order to make a correlation between a 1D and 3D model. First of all I simply created a fixed beam at one end, and the other end with a force of 1 kN. The outputs were very simple to obtain, indeed I could actually have pretty similar results in terms of stresses, displacements and constraining reactions. For the 3D the force and the constraint were applied using RBE2 elements, considering a node as independent and the ones on the cross-section of the beam as dependents, as you can see in the figures below I attached. Now the thing is, when I tried to make a correlation between a slightly different model than the one mentioned above, I couldn't obtain similar results, instead they were really different. I made a comparison between stresses, displacements and constraining reactions. The force applied was 1 kN as well, on the free end of the "T-structure". The section used for both 1D and 3D was an IPE360. For the beam of 1 m (the one where I applied the force) I used a freeze contact with the one of 2 m (fixed at both ends), in order to replicate the same condition of the 1D. The displacements were really different, almost 2 order of magnitudes of difference... the stresses obtained in the 1D was 4 times bigger than the one in the 3D and the constraining reactions (MRy) obtained didn't equal the real flexural moment generated by the force applied at the free end (it should equal 250000 N*mm as in the 1D, for a fixed-fixed condition). I attached all the comparisons and the .hm file if you wanna see the pre-process of the analysis. Could someone give me an explanation on this?   21. Hello Everybody, I am trying to convert a shell to a solid, using aerospace optistruct porfile. After realizing all plies the instruction says the §D Element Types have to be converted from SC8R to SC6R. The problem I have is, that, in the element panel there is no SC8R type, but in the Help Document i is stated, that the shell to solid conversion is supported by optistruct solver. Can anybody help me with this problem? Kind regards in advance Dean

  24. I have a model with 5 parts and it is symmetric. I partitioned as much as I can, but still, have an issue in mappable solid as the picture below (this is the simples and most complex part in the model) Any advice on partitioning? Thanks!
  25. Hi, I used OSSmooth to Import an Isosurface into Hypermesh from a previeous optimisation. I want to export part of an assembly to stl, so I can't directly use the export from OSSmooth. When I create the faces from the "find faces" panel and try to export as stl. The resulting file is created but has 0 KB and no model inside. I don't know what I can try to resolve this issue as there is no error message. Greetings from Germany, Marius
