  1. Hi all, My name is Dylan and I can't quite get the software to optimize my model exactly how I have it pictured in my head. I'm fairly new to this type of software as well as optimization itself, so I'm not surprised I got stuck in the first place! I currently am modeling steady state heat transfer through a 2-D radial pipe (much like a cd when you look at it in the X-Y plane). I constrained a temperature (of 3000 K) on the nodes along the inner radius of the pipe and I made a conduction interface on the elements along the outer radius of the pipe (to let the heat out) as well as a heat flux (of -345). When I run the OS analysis option, I get a nice spread for the grid temperature leading to a final temperature (of ~2800 K) on the nodes along the outer radius. So far, I think I am okay up to this point (as some of the numerical analysis I did on a previous flat plate model confirmed that this setup should would). Where I am running into problems is when I try to optimize this model in its current state. I've broken my optimization "wants" into a list. 1) 2 responses, one Vol Frac and one Temperature. 2) 1 constraint, a Vol Frac of 20%. 3) 1 object reference being the temperature on the nodes along the outer radius of the pipe. 3) 1 objective of minimizing the maximum temperature on the nodes along the outer radius of the pipe. AND I'm actually unsure whether I need to use the topology panel to utilize the optimizations available to me any further. If anyone has had any experience trying to optimize for temperature or any heat transfer optimization advice in general to offer, please do! I'll continue working minor changes to see if I can get the optimization to actually run in the coming weeks... -Please let me know if there is any other information I can give about my model that might make it easier to see why I'm running into problems!   2. Hello, I currently have finished a model that contains structural and thermal loading. I used OS to conduct an optimization run and came out with a density model at the end. I created a new page in HyperMesh, went to the OSSmooth model, and performed the procedure to run the post-processing tool (FEA Reanalysis, put in the .fem file, put in the .sh file, set the threshold to 0.5, etc. etc.). After doing all of this and running OSSmooth, I end up with the final iteration model that I saw in HyperView, with almost the exact same BC's, materials, and loadsteps...the problem then seems to be that there are a few things that didn't transfer over. There is an error in the conduction interface card (3rd column of CHBDYE) and none of the heat SPC's or heat loads (flux) transferred over to the model but all of the force SPC's and force loads did. Why did the all of the force transfer correctly but none of the thermal? I'm investigating the problem currently but if anyone has any insight or help for this same type of problem, anything is appreciated. Thanks! Dylan Stelzer
