  1. Dear Experts, I have a solar panel consisting of five layers, where two dimensions are much larger than the third dimension (by a factor of about 200-300:1). I have already meshed the component very fine in the plane and get the following statistics from AcuMeshSim: As a setting I tried the following options to minimize the skewness of the elements: Additionally I tried the option Surface Mesh Proximity Size Level with values of 1-3, but my PC does not seem to have the necessary computing capability for this. I have already read that AcuSolve is very generous in terms of element quality and focuses more on the distribution of the nodes. If no big temperature gradients are expected, one could estimate if the existing element quality is sufficient or not? If not, which options could I try? Thanks in advance!
  2. Hello everyone, I want to do flexible riser simulation. riser pinned at two end (constrain at xyz translation, free xyx rotation) + upward force (top tension) define as load. The loadsteps in optistruct are: 1. Linear static: spc: defined load: defined 2. modal Analysis: spc: defined method (struct): defined statsub (preload): linear static I get an error during importing op2 file into acuconsole-eigenmode manager. The error only occur when there are two subcase (linear static + modal analysis). If i only do modal analysis without linear static, i can import the op2 file without any error. attached is the optistruct and acusolve file. riser top tensioned.hm riser.acs
  3. Dear Experts, I have a solar panel, which consists of different layers (solids). The panel is exposed to a irradiance of 800 W/m^2 from straight above: I have a question regarding the definition of the surfaces under Solar Radiation Surface (Default, Inward, Outward, Both Sides) for the case shown above. If I define all surfaces (side-, top & bottom surfaces and also surfaces between different layers) as DEFAULT, I get the following results in Hyperview for the solar flux: If I define all surfaces as BOTH SIDES, I get the following results in Hyperview for the solar flux: How can I decide which option is the right for my usecase to model the physics correctly. Furthermore, what exactly is designated with solar_heat_flux in Hyperview? Is it the radiation intensity or another quantity? And what are the "best" options for Solar Radiation Parameters for num.rays, num. diffuse sub rays, max. ray reflections, min.ray energy? Thanks in advance!

Dear experts, I want to mesh the geometry with AcuConsole according to the picture below (4 different layers): The size in the x and y direction is several times larger than that in the z direction, lets say 1 m * 1 m * 0.003 m (x * y * z). I defined the absolute mesh size as 10 mm. Abviously, this leads to only one element per volume in z-direction. Now to my questions: Which is the best setting to get at least 3 elements per height in z direction in the entire volume of one part (i.e. via different Volume Mesh Attributes for different volumes or by appliying a value for the Surface Mesh Proximity Level)? Dear Experts, I am currrently carrying out thermal analysis in AcuConsole on a photovoltaic panel composed of five different layers (Glass cover, encapsulant, silicium cell, encapsulant, Backsheet). I want to consider thermal radiation on the front& back surface of my PV panel according to the following equations for the front and back surface, respectively: . I read in the AcuConsole training manual that calculation of radiation is only possible from surfaces of fluid mediums but I have no fluid in my simulation setup. Therefore my questions are: 1.) Is there any other possibility to implement radiation without a fluid volume (i.e. setting heat flux (boundary condition) to -100 W/m^2 on the corresponding surface)? 2.) The equations above are dependent on a value which has to be calculated by the processor (Trear and Tfront). Is it possible to formulate such boundary conditions that depend on values that will be calculated later by the processor (AcuSolve)? Thanks in advance!
  6. Dear AcuSolve Users, Please find the detailed procedure of mapping AcuSolve CFD results through linear interpolation option. It has a python script attached, a pdf document explaining the process to be followed. This Script can be utilized to get all the CFD results like Velocity, Pressure, temperature etc and map it onto other mesh for further analysis. Regards, Kamlesh Script.zip
  7. Hi I am trying to perform a thermal analysis where a composite plate is subjected to radiation. The plate consists of 2 plies, the one on top is made of glass, the one on the bottom is made of aluminium. The radiation needs to go trough the glass and then reaches the aluminium plate. The aluminium absorbs almost all of the radiation, the glass mainly lets the radiation trough. How would I model this? I already did a test simulation which runs fine but it seems as if all the radiation is absorbed by the glass layer which of course is not what I want to achieve. Either the way I modelled the radiation is wrong or either my radiation coefficients are wrong, these are the ones I used: The radiation properties for glass: emissivity: 0.75 , specular transmissivity: 0.85 , diffuse transmissivity: 0 , specular reflectivity: 0.08 , diffuse reflectivity: 0 The radiation properties for aluminium: emissivity: 0.1 , specular transmissivity: 0 , diffuse transmissivity: 0 , specular reflectivity: 0.5 , diffuse reflectivity: 0.1 Any ideas or remarks?
  8. Hi, I am performing research for a thermal radiation CFD simulation. The simulation is the following: A plate is locally heated by a laserbeam. So my question is: would it be possible to only apply radiation on this single spot? How would I do this in AcuConsole? I have done a greenhouse simulation already with radiation heat but than the radiation hit the complete model. So is it possible to only locally apply radiation in a model? Thank you in advance Toon

  10. python: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory AcuConsole requires the standard C++ libraries, version 5 to be installed on the system. These libraries can be downloaded from the various rpm repositories on the web.
  11. AcuConsole uses Coin3D for visualization. Coin3D ( http://www.coin3d.org )requires OpenGL. There are multiple sources of problems with display. 1. OpenGL is not installed on your machine. Try running "glxgears" application as a test. 2. The graphics driver used. On Linux try running /sbin/lspci to see the drivers for your video controller. 3. On Linux, check the following files ( mail it to our support ), /etc/X11/XF86Config and /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/Cards
  12. This issue is caused by SELinux. At the current time, the only way to work around this issue is to turn off SELinux. This typically needs to be deactivated by the root user. Using the GNOME desktop environment, this can be done by running system-config-securitylevel and selecting the "SELinux" tab. Disable SELinux and apply the settings.
  13. Hi, I have a question regarding the Turbulence Intensity parameter that is located under the solver browser in Hypermesh 2019.1 (AcuSolve User Profile). What are the units of this parameter? Is it represented as a percentage or ratio? (I've attached a screen snippet) For example in AcuConsole GUI, the turbulence intensity parameter is input as a percentage (e.g 2.5 for 2.5% turbulence intensity). Best regards Brenton

I am getting error i.e. acuPrep: *** ASSERTION in Function <iopGetFileLineCnt> File <iopFile.c> Line <1368> acuPrep: *** unable to open file <MESH.DIR/MM_2.5L_BS6_TempEff_220518_T1.ExhtGas_ShapedTube_6.tet4.Face_ExhtGas4_Side0.tri3.ebc>; Too many open files acuRun: *** ERROR: error occurred executing acuPrep Can any one tell me why this error is coming & how to sovle it.   15. hello everyone! I am using HM-CFD programs to do some simulation from AcuSolve. While doing a transient simulation, i figured some GAP between HM-CFD and AcuConsole. I have created a multiplier function on HM-CFD and assigned it to an inlet surface. Then i export the .HM model file to an AcuConsole input file (.inp) to view on AcuConsole. But it seemed that Multiplier-Function-data i created is not appears on AcuConsole (or in .inp) file. My version is 2018 (downloaded directly from Altair connect) Does anyone know about this problem? it is because of me or some software bugs? Appeciate every help. Thank you!   16. If User's are unable to open a database or if it gives an error like "Unable to create path Marker" then we can say that the database is corrupted. In such cases the data from this corrupted database can be extracted by following the below steps, Install HDFview on the machine (http://www.hdfgroup.org/hdf-java-html/hdfview/) Open HDFview GUI Load the database by clicking on File > Open in the menu bar and navigating to the database location. Select the database and click Open All the data in the database will be displayed in hierarchical format Click on first item in the tree, press Shift and select the last item. All the items in the tree will be selected Right click and select Copy Click on File > New > HDF5 Provide a filename (eg: test.acs) and save the database Scroll down to the bottom to see the new database created (test.acs.h5) Right-click on the new database and select Paste. Click Yes to copy the selected objects You can see all the objects under the new database Save the database. File > Save, then close the HDFview GUI by clicking on File > Exit Rename the new database (eg: test.acs.h5 to test.acs) Load the new database into AcuConsole
  17. Hello, I'm having trouble with a CFD simulation. After running it in AcuConsole, the error "Error while executing acuPrep" appears. In Acusolve, this error disappears after specifying the eddy viscosity value, however, I don't know where or how to do that in AcuConsole.
  18. Hi everyone, I am doing a project for the subject of aerodynamics and I am using AcuConsole for that. I am finding some problems with the CATIA reader I have installed with AcuConsole, so I am thinking now switching the file format to stl (seems more reliable). The problem I am finding now is that I cannot split the model into different surfaces, to assign the airfoil, the sides, etc. I tried to divide the geometry with the feature angle, changing it from 90 degrees to 0.1 and doesn't allow me to pick up any geometry when I create a new surface group.   19. Hello, I am trying to import the pressures on a surface from a file onto my model in HyperMesh. I will need to do this via linear interpolation I believe. I am struggling with a few parts of this, so would like to ask the following questions? Does the surface mesh of the model used in the VWT CFD need to be the same as the surface mesh that I will use in HyperMesh for the optimisation? Or can it be refined/changed after the CFD has been performed and the linear interpolation feature will calculate the correct magnitude of the nodal pressure load? Will the changing of the surfaces (e.g. adding a surface in/moving the surface boundaries) affect the success of being able to use the linear interpolation feature for the surface pressures? Does the nodal pressure file for the surfaces exported from AcuOut need doctoring at all before it can be used? By this I mean do I need to change any spaces to comma's or change the file type from .out to .tpl? Thank you in advance
  20. For example, I want to disable meshing of solid volumes - and mesh only the fluid volumes. In AcuConsole V1.7f and later - under the Volume Mesh Attributes, set the Mesh size type to 'NoMesh'.
  21. If you see an error message such as, "Can't set up a valid OpenGL canvas," "something is seriously wrong with the system!". It might be that you are using VNC for remote display. Unfortunately, OpenGL does not work over VNC, but TurboVNC based on VirtualGL should do the job.   23. Hello, I would like to export / output the surface pressures from a VWT CFD to a text file to be utilised in HyperMesh for a topology optimisation using Optistruct. I believe I will need to use AcuSolve's AcuConsole to this. From within AcuConsole I am to use AcuOut. I am having trouble doing so. Can someone offer some guidance. Thank you in advance.
  24. Hello everyone, I am trying to simulate axial fans located behind the radiator of a semi truck in AcuConsole. I have three sets of fans in which one set has its axis similar to global coordinate system whereas the other two sets of fans have their rotation axis inclined to the global coordinate axis. I have tried to run the simulation but I have been experiencing divergence issues. I figured out the reason for this and it appears to be with the axis of rotation of the inclined set of fans. Till now, I have been creating a reference frame where i specify the rotation center as the center of rotation for the fan and then specify the RPM using the angular velocity option along one component (X, Y or Z). This I think is wrong. Could somebody help me out with specifying the correct axis of rotation for the inclined set of fans? Should I specify different X, Y & Z components in the angular velocity section of the reference frame for the fans or should I change the 'Wall Velocity type' to 'Cylindrical' in the 'surfaces' tab, specify the cylindrical axis in AcuConsole? In that case, I was wondering if I should keep the Radial. Axial & Tangential velocity sections to 0.0 m/sec or give them a value? I have attached some screenshots which may help for reference.   25. Hello Guys, I was working on my project, for that I have just started with a very simple pipe flow. I have few queries regarding the same and I would be grateful if you will help me to answer my queries. The dimensions of the model pipe are 10 mm in diameter and 25 mm in length. I have done modelling in in Creo Parametric 2.0. When importing this file in Acuconsolve, (at the very first stage) a dialog box opens where I only change the units to "m" from "mm". Now i have defined the inlet, outlet and wall for the model. At inlet I have defined as Average velocity = 10m/s. A outlet as outlet and wall as wall. In volume the material model is used as water. For problem description analysis type is steady state, flow equation is Navier stokes and all the other things are set as it is in default(also for auto solution strategy. Now I have done the volume meshing and run the solver. Now while plotting the results for velocity magnitude and pressure, I am getting very unrealistic answer, like the velocity is 20.474 and the pressure is 7951.421.(I have attached the files) I am not getting to what formula does solver based?? how it calculates the velocity magnitude and pressure?? If for pipe flow we use a simple equation like .. (Flow at inlet = flow at outlet) Then , A1*V1 = A2*V2 Then the Area will be same which gives the velocity as 10m/s, as i have defines the v1= 10m/s as per my analytical calculation. Regarding for the pressure values also I want to know the calculations, weather it accounts for total pressure or only the static pressure. Total pr = Static + Dynamic + (row*g*h)[neglecting this term for our case] Total p. = Pstatic + (0.5*row*(v)^2) Then also I am not getting the results which i am calculating theoretically. 1.) I also want to know about the inlet conditions that, what can be used for pipe flow, (mass flux, average velocity, flow rate or simply velocity in any axis.). 2.) Formula for calculating velocity and pressure. 3.) Losses are being considered in this pipe or not?? 4.) Should I change the units in the beginning to "m" or not while importing the model.(as creo parametric based on millimeter newton seconds. so every dimensions of the model are in "mm" only.
