2. ## Variable temperature in a BEAM

Good afternoon, I have a BEAM (CBEAM) component and I would like to see how it deforms due to a VARIABLE TEMPERATURE applied to the whole BEAM. Is that possible? Obviously I would only like to see how it deforms on the direction of it's axis (as a BEAM is a 1-D element). The TEMPERATURE would go from 17 to 23 degrees in 6 hours (1 degree increment every hour) Thanks a lot in advance! Sergio

Hello at all, during a topology optimization of a wireframe of a student racecar the check before optimizing gives the following error: A fatal error has been detected during input processing: *** ERROR # 6001 *** Two of the vectors defined on DTPL card 1 are aligned. I don´t know what to do now. At the end of this text i add a dropbox link to my hm-file, so maybe someone of you can have a look and give me tipps to solve my prob. I guess it could be the connection between the beams (1D) and the design space (solid). i equivalenced them with the equivalence function (in menu SHIFT+F3) in compliance with a small warpage. 5. ## Beams no moment

Good morning! I'm trying to model the 4 cables shown in the attached file. At first I thought of using Beams to make it easier but the fact is that those cables cannot transmit moment (rotation) in the joints (2 joints in each cable). How should I do it? Do I change the element type? Is there any way of erasing restriction of the rotational DOF at the joints? Hoping a quick response and thanks in advance! Conjunto tubos.STEP

Having trouble matching the area product of inertia calculation in hyperbeam for a tube section with rounded corners on two opposing corners. I have built this section with the shell and solid section methods and both give me a different result than what I have calculated by hand with the exact geometry. 12. ## modifying / getting Nastran CBEAM properties (orientation / offset vectors)

Hi Guys, I'm trying to automate the creation of CBEAM elements along a node path wrt to a given "template" element which is already in the model. What I could achive so far is the creation of the CBEAM elements with help of the *feature_add command to create plot elements along a given nodepath and then switch the configuration of the created PLOTEL. These PLOTEL can now be "switched" to CBEAMs utilizing the *attributeupdateint, *attributeupdatedouble and *attributeupdateentity command. The correct property assignment can be done with the *propertyupdate command. So far so good. In the next step, the orientation and offset vectors of the newly created CBEAM elements have to be adjusted with the *barelementupdatewithoffsets command. But the questions is, how can I extract these vectors from the "template" element. I already tried to use the hm_attributevalue / hm_atttributearrayvalue and hm_getentityvalue, but I don't know the correct keyword, to access the needed information. Hello, I would like to know what kind of beam I should use for my simulation and I struggle to find the differences between the P18_INT_BEAM and the P3_beam. I saw that in bending, the bigger the deformation get, the bigger differences are between the two kinds of beam. Could somebody give me more informations about that ? Regards, Camille
14. ## Beam Model and Shell Model Differences

Using Hypermesh 2017, and User Optistruct. I have been trying to get the contour plots of a chassis both modeled with a beam model and a shell model to match up but the deflections of the shell model are always about 2 times as large. It should also be noted that the deflection images are nearly exactly the same with the same deflection trends but just the magnitudes are different. The following conditions are the exact same for both: forces, location of forces, constraints, overall size, thickness and material. The only conditions that are different would be the properties as the beam model is modeled with a PBEAM and assigned the correct beamsection while the Shell model is modeled with a PSHELL card and then assigned the thickness. Are there any common errors that would be able to describe why the beam model has almost exactly half the deflection of the shell model? Thanks for any Help , reply if more info is needed. 16. ## HyperBeam: defining beam for arbitrary section varying along beam length?

Hi all, I need to create beam elements for an already existing geometry which consists of an open channel with following features: 1. arbitrary cross section; 2. the cross section is variable along the beam length (axis), and 3. beam axis is an arbitrary curve (instead of a straight line). I have seen a tutorial in HyperMesh which give details about how to define beam by creating a section geometry (standard). However I am looking for a method to import a shell geometry into hypermesh, and ask hyperbeam to generate the beam definitions from this arbitrary geometry (beam nodes and elements). Is it possible to use hyperbeam for this purpose? Best regards, Mubeen.
17. ## Reaction forces half of expected

Hi, I set up this test model to analyse how forces and supports are used. The right hand face is rigidly supported and all translations and rotations are constrained. The left hand face has a 1 N load applied in the z direction as shown. This problem is essentially a cantilever beam with a fixed end. Therefore with only one support and one force the reaction force at the support should register as 1N, but it registers as 0.5 N. Why is this? 19. ## Differences between CBEAM and CMBEAM

Dear all, I am building an elastic multi-body dynamic model and I need to model the screws connecting some parts in the model. I plan to model the screws as 1D beam elements. I have seen that I have two options, CBEAM and CMBEAM. The documentation says: CBEAM: The CBEAM bulk data entry defines a beam element (BEAM) of the structural model. CMBEAM: Defines a beam element for multi-body dynamics solution sequence without reference to a property entry. I'm leaning towards CMBEAM more as it specifically states the element is for multi-body dynamics. But I don't quite understand the differences between the two. I have seen CMS models which use CBEAM instead of CMBEAM so it seems it is indeed possible to use CBEAM in an elastic MBD analysis. I would be grateful for any further information regarding the differences between CBEAM and CMBEAM, as well as which one should be used for an MBD analysis comprising flexbodies. 20. ## Export all type of elements from Hypermesh to Ansys Workbench

Hello Everyone, I have a complete model in Hypermesh: components, mesh, materials, properties, .... I would like to export that model from Hypermesh to Ansys Workbench, so that someone who does not work with Hypermesh can use Workbench. Firstly, I followed the tutorial HM-4410 from Hypermesh Help (https://altairhyperworks.com/hwhelp/Altair/hw13.0/help/hm/introduction_to_ansys_model_setup_-_hm-4410.htm?toc=0&printWindow). Then, I added sensors for different types of elements and I export a .cdb file; as you can read in the tutorial. Later, I imported the flie .cdb to Ansys Workbench following a You Tube video (How to import Meshed file from hypermesh to ansys). However, when I open the Model clicking twice on the tap Finite Element Modeler, Ansys can't show all type of elements specifically elements 1D (mass, rod, beam, rigids, etc). In my case, the model has rigid, spring, shell, rod and beam elements; so I am reading in several tutorials and forums that rigid elements don't need a sensor but Ansys can't read them. My question is: what do I have to do to get an identical model in hypermesh and ansys? The pictures below show a simple model with that problem. In the first one you can see the hypermesh model with 1580 nodes and 1498 elements (shell, rigid, mass), and the other two pictures depict the ansys model (Finite element model). Ansys model has 1580 nodes and 1495 elements, so the three rigids elements (CERIG) haven not been read. Thank you for your time.
21. ## lattice analysis using pbeaml

Hello,everyone. I am a new user of the hyperworks. And I want to analysis a .iges file with many lines as you can see in the attachment. I want assign the lines with beam property. The problem I get is that when I use 'line mesh' with pbeaml(beam section is a circle) , bar2, and auto settings, some lines can't be assign the property correctly, as you can see in the .png file(the picture). I guess the direction of the beamsection is not correctly set, because when I analysis it by optistruct, I get an error that the 6~8 field of cbeam is zero length. But I want if there any method can generate what I want correctly. I want analysis a more complex lattice model(with lines in all direction), and before this I use this simple model as a practise. 22. ## Bolt Connector 3D solid tet mesh

Hello, I am using 3D tet elements to model a variety of bolted flange plates. I would like to use simplified 1D beam elements as bolts, with RBE2 to connect to each part. Is there a way to use the connector panel to help make this easier? I cannot seem to figure out how to do it for 3D meshes. Also, I have not actually meshed the holes as I am trying to reduce geometric complexity - I have just included a circular "washer" surface for the RBE2 elements to grab on to. My solver is Optistruct. Thank you, Justin
