  1. Hi, I want to simulate the elastic (and further the elasto-plastic) behaviour of arbitrary lattice structures with hyperworks by the use of unit cells. Is there a possibility to apply periodic boundary conditions to simulate unit cells? In addition to that i've tried the Multi-Scale Designer for a simulation like this but there is a major limitation. Within MDS i've to specify matrix and the fiber material but i'm only interested in the behaviour of the fiber material without any influence of the matrix material. I hope someone have a solution regarding this topic ;-) best regards
  2. In one of the tutorials of Optistruct given by Hyperworks, i found the boundary constraint on the right bushing to be constraining the dofs 2 and 3 . I feel all the three translational degrees of freedom be constrained like the first one. Please explain in reference to image attached . Thanks
  3. Hello, I am working on a project to simulate the cooling phase in an enamelling process. I simply generated a composite cantilever beam with two different materials to obtain the stresses and displacements during cooling process. I will cool down the composite cantilever beam from an elevated temperature to room temperature. The problem is, I am new to thermal boundary conditions and I can't find the correct load collector combination to handle the problem. To summarize the simulation; 1. Structure is at 350 degrees celcius and it will cool down to 20 degrees celcius. 2. Due to thermal expansion coefficent difference, the composite beam will deform. Thanks in advance!   5. Specify the Simple_Boundary_Condition with 'temperature_type = flux' with the desired values. Add a Nodal_Boundary_Condition on the surface with the desired temperature - but add 'active_type = user_function'. Within the user function, the return value should be '1' when the temperature condition is desired and '0' when the flux condition is desired. The attached example has an AcuConsole database and the sample UDF. First, compile the UDF via acuMakeLib or acuMakeDll. Start acuConsole, open the database, and create the mesh (meshing parameters are assigned). Then run the problem. The duration of the problem is 12 seconds. Time 0-2 and 6-8 have fixed temperature and 2-6 and 8-12 have the flux condition.
  6. I have a cube as a model, and i'm trying to apply a boundary condition that it's basicaly a shear force in one of the cube faces. But the particularity of this BC is that i have to define a UNIFORM displacement (every element having the same displacement) on this shear forced face. How can i do that?
  7. Hello all, I have a rigid body impacting a device. It is a frontal impact and the rigid body is not supposed to turn. However, as I input initial velocity (on master node only), the rigid body behaves on its own during simulation. So I constrained all rigid body nodes in X and Z directions (impact on Y direction). But I get a warning: WARNING ID : 312 ** INCOMPATIBLE KINEMATIC CONDITIONS IN MODEL DESCRIPTION : 2886 INCOMPATIBLE KINEMATIC CONDITIONS IN MODEL 1. I don't think my kinematic conditions are problematic. 2. My simulation works but the rigid body still turns on itself and does not respect the bcs condition input How can I solve this problem ?   8. Dear, I am making a model of a carbon chassis in hypermesh. I apply my suspension loads at the suspension points. How can I make my model without using SPC's as my boundary condition? The only logic place to make use of the SPC is at the suspension pick up points. But I cannot fix these because then it becomes impossible to check if my laminate is strong enough. How can I apply boundary conditions without using SPC? Kind Regards,
  9. Hello I am fairly new to CFD having tried to use Code saturne for too long and given up I have now come to Hyperworks. Being a fairly basic user I would like a fairly basic tutorial to create a mesh and boundary conditions for a single geometry. The mesh will be a solid block with no moving parts subjected to a range of wind speeds. All the tutorials I have seen complicate the instructions with fancy twiddly bits like moving parts etc. and I am never sure of the basic instructions at the core.   10. Hi all, How can I define boundary conditions to a node in the local element coordinate system? I have a shell structure (see below) and do not want my BC's in XYZ, but in local u,v,w coordinates. Later, I would love to post-process my results in a coordinate system related to each element as well. Thanks, T
  11. I have a 2d mesh that I wish to apply prescribed velocities to during an explicit analysis. The nodes on the mesh need enforced velocites that are functions of their x & y positions, as well as time. Effectively meaning that every node needs it's own amplitude curve. For many nodes, is there an automated method of creating these curves and loads in hypermesh?
  12. i have created a pin joint with a following steps > i created one rigid (rbe2) on either side. > connected independent nodes with 1D beam with pin a =4 and pin b= 0 is that a right way to do it? and on my main strut lugs..i want to allow the rotation along its axis.. i have done this as in this model attached.. whether what i have done is right or wrong? tertamesh_10size.hm
  13. During the processing stage, acuPrep determines whether or not 'surfaces' from Simple BC or Element BC commands are boundaries or internal to the parent element set. If a surface element (tri or quad) has a volume element on only one side - or volume elements from different sets on both sides - it is considered to be a boundary. If a surface element has a volume element on both sides, and those volume elements are in the same element set - it is considered to be internal. If there are surfaces in the geometry between volumes in the same element set, these surfaces should not have Boundary Conditions defined. If there truly is an internal 'wall' (such as a baffle) within a given volume, the mesh surfaces should be split to yield two sets of nodes and two sets of surface elements.
  14. Hello, I am new to Hypermesh. I want to perform two things, simulate the acoustic cavity modes of (1) hollow cylinder closed at both ends (2) hollow cylinder open at one end and closed at other end. I am able to do (1) by meshing the hollow closed cylinder and creating an acoustic cavity mesh inside it through "mesh --> create", and then deleting the structure around the cavity and use EIGRL to find the modes of the purely acoustical solid structure that remains. In this method, I end up with only one element type, and one component, which is the cavity mesh. I am solving this in Optistruct. I need help with performing (2). How do I simulate the open air boundary condition at the cylinder's open end? Is there a way I can define the impedance of the 'open' elements. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am new to Hypermesh so I request you to explain a bit elaborately. Thank you so much!
  15. The AcuSolve tool (shell script) 'reform' reformats existing files - and can be used to extract nodes from a surface or volume. It is located in the /tools/ directory of Linux/Unix installations. Extract nodes from a surface (.ebc) file: reform -3,100,1 surface1.ebc | sort -nu > surface1.nbc Extract nodes from a volume (.cnn) file: reform -2,100,1 volume1.cnn | sort -nu > volume1.nbc
