  1. Hello, i am trying to calculate von Mises stress for a beam. The beam has a weird cross section and i already defined the section in hyperbeam. for properties i use PBEAM, since there is no cross section that is the same in optisctruct library. i have gave the value for continuation line 2, 5 and 6. in Output, i have requested stress for all type. There is no problem during the calculation and in the result type(Hyperview), it only shows Displacement, Element strain(1D) and Element stress(1D). Under Stress, i can only choose axial and long. stress, but i need von Mises Stress. How can i obtain the von MIses stress? thanks in advance
  2. Hi, I have a structure made of 3d solid map hex mesh elements, ie. primitive unit cells (see primitive image attached). I have turned my hex mesh elements into bar2 elements. I would like to create a central node to the primitive unit cell and connect bar elements to this central node (see body centred cubic image). I know this will most likely be a TCL script problem but I'm not sure how the script would be written. I have successfully created the primitive unit cell and used config edit tool to create bar2 elements (CBEAM's) But I would now like to do this with elements connected to a central node.   3. Hi, I have a structure that is composed of many CBEAM elements, all of these CBEAM elements are under one property and one material. I need each of the individual CBEAM elements to have its own property and material. Is there a way to automate this. I have ~9000 beams. I could lower the number of beams to something manageable so I could organize them individually but this is not ideal. The end goal is to be able to alter the material properties of individual CBEAM's, E1 for example, simulating progressive damage with progressive lattice failure. Can anyone help?   4. Hi, I am attempting to create a lattice structure using CBEAM's. I have created a box geometry and filled it with CBEAM's. This was achieved by solid map meshing, then using the mesh to create CBEAM's. However, I have now applied some BC's and when I run my model I get the message: *** ERROR # 1203 *** in the input data: Vector defined in fields 6 - 8 has zero length. I believe that this has something due to the orientation of by CBEAM's but because I have so many CBEAM's I'm not sure how I would correct the orientation or what to correct the orientation to.   6. Hello, I want to model a suspension using 1D-Elements. CROD are used to model the rods from the chassis to the wheel carrier. They are connected to the chassis using RBE3 with dof123 constrained to allow for free rotation. The problem is with the connection to and modeling of the wheel carrier. The rods need to be able to rotate freely around the connection points to the wheel carrier as well. I know about BEAM-Elements but as far as I know they only allow for free rotation around 1 axis. ROD- elements shouldnt constrain the rotations either, but they added stiffness to the model compared to the last option, a simple RBE2 with dof 123 from the end points of the rod to the wheel center as a central node. This setup with an RBE2 with dof123 as a wheelcarrier works good in analysis, but in freeesize I randomly get the error " *** ERROR # 153 *** Exactly zero pivoting encountered during Numerical Factorization; the model may have rigid body mode. " - My question are as follows: Why dont rods work as intended? They shouldnt constrain rotation as far as i know - Why does the rbe2 lead to that error? in analysis the flow of force makes sense and no anomalies appear, sometime the freesize even completes without any problem at all. - do you know of any way to model freely rotatable 1D-elements aside from the options above?   7. Hello, i've modelled a frame with beam elements, beam sections were set with hyperbeam and attached to the right properties. The properties are added to the right components. Now i have noticed, that in one of my two loadsteps (both static, both with only one force and a few constraints) the displacement won't change, if i change the beam sections affected by the load. The other loadstep is affected by a change of loaded beam sections. Can't figure out my mistake, analysis runs fine without errors. Is there something i'm missing? BR mechengstud
  8. Hi, I am aiming to fill a section of a mesh with CBEAM's. I have meshed my geometry and then detached the elements and created offset nodes. I then use the find edges tool to identify the edges. Now I have the edges identified, how do I create CBEAM's of these offset elements? I can individually create the CBEAM's by manually clicking them but I have hundreds of offset elements.   10. Dear all, I am building an elastic multi-body dynamic model and I need to model the screws connecting some parts in the model. I plan to model the screws as 1D beam elements. I have seen that I have two options, CBEAM and CMBEAM. The documentation says: CBEAM: The CBEAM bulk data entry defines a beam element (BEAM) of the structural model. CMBEAM: Defines a beam element for multi-body dynamics solution sequence without reference to a property entry. I'm leaning towards CMBEAM more as it specifically states the element is for multi-body dynamics. But I don't quite understand the differences between the two. I have seen CMS models which use CBEAM instead of CMBEAM so it seems it is indeed possible to use CBEAM in an elastic MBD analysis. I would be grateful for any further information regarding the differences between CBEAM and CMBEAM, as well as which one should be used for an MBD analysis comprising flexbodies.
