  1. Hi guys, I'm trying to evaluate the reaction forces on both the translational joints (they have been modeled as compliance joints in order to do not get redundant constraints). To achieve this result, I need to apply a motion between the piston (green one) and the case of the cylinder (yellow one) using makers, but the system fails to reach the convergence. I would like to know how to apply the motion using markers, since seems to be quite tricky to me. Thank you all.
  2. Hello, My name is Michal, I would like to ask you how can I understand value of compliance in .out file of the optistruct? If i understand compliance correctly it is displacement of the object when a unit of force is applied. In my model I have mm, N, MPa, kg as units, but value of compliance of my model is 3e03, epsilon equal 5e-011. And the model is definitely not deforming by 3 meters while 1N of force is applied. Do I misunderstand the compliance or its unit? How to transform it into stiffness- normally it is 1/C right? Best regards, Michal
  3. Hello all, I'm trying to carry out an optimzation with optistruct with applied forces and displacement contraints but come across error 318. The attached images show the BCs desired and my settings for the SPCs. During the Analysis step, the process completes without any error but the optimization step returns following error: *** ERROR # 318 *** Static load case 1 has nonzero applied loads & prescribed displacements. Optimization with compliance cannot be performed. Somebody who can guide me about this issue? Thanks for your help, suggestions as well as advice! regards.

  5. Hi, I have to run a topology optimisation on a simple structure, a kind of fixed-end beam with some loads applied . Known the maximum displacement I want to have, how can I perform a calculation of the compliance so that i can put it as upper bound in DCONSTRAINT settings? Thanks to anybody will answer Valentina
  6. Hello, i would like to compare the Optistruct Topology optimization and the new Ansys Topology Optimization in relation to the optimization result. At first I would like to compare the results of the two solver with the minimum compliance as objective. I plan to run several optimizations with 90, 80, 70 … 10% as volume constraint. The result should be a graph with the volume on the x-axis and the compliance on the y-axis. Each run is one point in the graph. Now to my problem: I thought the results are in a comparable range, but the values are very different. For example, the result of the last iteration with 20% Volume constraint: Optistruct Compliance: 858 Nmm Ansys Compliance: 4153Nmm It is exactly the same part. The result is relative to the displacement is also comparable. Now I doubt whether it is really useful to compare the results with the compliance. Are deviations of this magnitude realistic? Makes it sense to use the compliance for comparison in your opinion, or do you know a better possibility? Thank you very much Andreas
  7. Hi, I am running Radioss topology optimization to minimize compliance with constrained volume fraction. The plate has all translations constrained on the left and right edges and mass is added. The expectation was that reinforcing ribs would connect supports across left-right direction, which was confirmed with Optistruct. However Radioss optimization produced counterintuitive result with reinforcements running along supports. From the .eslout file it became evident the objective function was minimize maximum compliance; in Optistruct run the objective was minimize compliance. How to set up Radioss optimization to get results similar to Optistruct?   8. Hello every one, I'm running a topology optimization with a min compliance and volume or mass fraction constraint. Do you know why the mass or volume fraction recommanded is 0.3 or less? Best regards, Lucy
  9. Hello all, I'm trying to simulate some load cases of a car chassis. It should later be used for a topology optimization, so that I start with the design space. I started with one side, mirrored it and delete the coincident nodes. The blue beams are stiff (very high elastic modulus) and connected with ball joints (coincident nodes). Those beams are connected to the chassis with RBE3 elements (free around the x-axis). I realise that the mesh is not the best, but it's just for testing the suspension. i got the following warnings (using HM 2017 and optistruct): *** WARNING # 5629 In static load case 2, The magnitude of Residual Energy Ratio, 1.83121e+006, is large (larger than 10%). The results for this subcase may not be correct. *** WARNING # 312 In static load case 2 the compliance is negative or large -316.526. Optimization/buckling analysis cannot be performed. due to possible rigid body mode. Subcase: 2 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Label x-force y-force z-force x-moment y-moment z-moment -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sum-App. 0.000E+00 0.000E+00 1.000E+04 1.416E+07 -1.743E+07 0.000E+00 Sum-SPCF 3.630E+04 -2.914E+04 4.500E+03 -2.370E+07 -1.162E+07 -1.056E+08 I don't understand, why I get a the following displacements (scale factor 1000).   10. Hi there, I am trying to run a simulation to produce an analysis on the chassis of a car (stress, strain, disp etc). I have tried to make the model as accurate as possible by applying all relevant loads. However, when I run Optistruct it says the following; *** WARNING # 5628 The compliance is negative or large 6.83807e+015. The rotational displacement has large magnitude, 5.82769e+009 degrees (larger than 180). The rotational degree of freedom may not be constrained properly in the model. subcase id = 4 grid id = 187 component = 4 *** WARNING # 312 In static load case 4 the compliance is negative or large 6.83807e+015. Optimization/buckling analysis cannot be performed. due to possible rigid body mode. I believe this is due to the model being under-constrained? (Please correct me if I'm wrong), however, I'm not sure where I can reduce the DOF without overly constraining the model. The model is attached. Hi, In the case of sub-components forming part of a global structure, the contribution to the total compliance of the subcomponents can be very small, even if the surrounding structure is condensed into a super-element. This contribution can be detailed by calculating the deformation energy of the elements constituting the subcomponent. and this is my problem right now, i want to optimize my Design_Space ( in red ) with objective minimze compliance and Cstr= Volfrac=30% but the compliance of my design space = 3E+2 and the total compliance=6e+7, so it's negligible. so i tried to use an OFFSET of the objective, i tried to use a LOG equations to make the difference between the two compliances in the same scale.. but all that didn't work ! There is a solution to have a result please ? Best
