  1. Hi guys, I'm trying to understand how Hydraulics works in Activate, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be usefull, thank you all.
  2. Dear All, I have an issue concerning the use of “Double NeGative” (DNG) metamaterials. The issue regards either the electromagnetic scattering of plane waves from DNG metamaterial cylinders or the evaluation of the reflection coefficient for waveguides partially filled with metamaterials. I firstly considered an indefinite (along the z axis), homogeneous cylinder having radius = 4lambda in the case of normally incident plane wave with TM polarization at f = 300MHz (see Fig. 1 in attached files). The cylinder is filled up with a DNG metamaterial having eps_r= -2.2, while mu_r<0 changes from case to case. An indefinite cylinder has been obtained with periodic boundary conditions. The result from FEKO is compared with a cylindrical wave expansion (see “Normal Incidence Plane Wave Scattering by Conducting Circular Cylinder: TMzPolarization” – Advanced Engineering Electromagnetic, Constantine A. Balanis). FEKO and the cylindrical wave expansion agree for mu_r =-1 (see Fig. 2) and for mu_r = -1.2 (see Fig. 3), while they disagree for mu_r= -1.3 and mu_r = -1.5 (see Fig. 4 and Fig. 5). Please, find attached the related .cfx file and relative figures. In the second case, I considered an X-band rectangular waveguide structure (see Fig.6) partially filled with a DNG metamaterial, now with epr_r = -2 and mu_r<0 changing from case to case, and terminated with a short circuit. The result from FEKO has been compared with waveguide theory. While for mu_r from -1 to -1.2 the reflection coefficient is ok, for mu_r = -1.5 (or in general lower than mu_r=-1.3) the phases of the numerical and analytical reflection coefficients differ: the numerical phase is -79.7° while the analytical one is -105.1°.   3. Hi there, I am struggling with creating a cylindrical label for a packaging. I have the dxf outline of the label(on the right scale) and I need to create a wrapped label. How can I get such a result? I have tried with bend but it doesn't seem to be able to curve the surface in a regular way(circle). I have tried with warp, stretch and drap surface but these tools seem to distort the actual outline, as a result the texture label cannot match it. Any suggestion?

  5. My question is somehow similar to this one here: I already conducted a simulation with OptiStruct similar to the one shown in the mentioned thread. I understand that possible contact surfaces are only defined in the undeformed state. However, my aim is to obtain a more advanced simulation. Is there a modeling approach that looks for new contact surfaces (within a defined search distance) during the calculation? Here is the hm-file of my test model: cylinder_cube_contact.hm And here a short outline of the model (unit system: N-mm-t-s): cube with edge length = 1 cylinder with diameter as well as length = 1 element size: 0.1 material: E = 210000 NU = 0.3 property card image: PSOLID force on each node = 1 (110 loaded nodes) all nodes at the lower side of the cube are constraint (dof 123456 locked) 2 sets of contact surfaces. one for each component interface card image: CONTACT type: FREEZE slave: cylinder contact surface master: cube contact surface MORIENT: NORM SRCHDIS = 0.01 load step: Linear static with SPC and LOAD analysis type defined
  6. Hello, I am studying FEA using HyperMesh and Optistruct. Now I'm trying to analyze the stress of cylindrical vessel with support plate. In accordance with the tutorials, I've created the mesh and load collector, but I don't know how to create constraints to support plate. In this case, constraints are attached only to the support plate. it cannot translate to vessel's axial direction and its radial direction , but can translate to its tangent direction (the distance between the center of vessel and plate does not change, please refer to the attached picture.) I know axial constraint can be achieved by adding SPC to all elements with checking dof of axial direction. But I don't know how to fix the plate only its radial direction. Thank you,
