  1. Designing a consumer product would require you to do curve projection at least one time unless you are in search of an overall shape. When you do a cutout of a panel/surface in order to insert a piece it is wise to fillet the edges of both pieces for rendering purposes so it ends up looking more convincing but sometimes you really need a bigger gap between two panels/surfaces. This is where some sort of gap tool creation would come in handy just to interactively expand or resize the existing gap when you do curve projection. So far one of the workarounds has been to do offset of the cutout which gives you a leeway to do proper bigger filleting of the edges to close the gap (that way it looks more pronounced in the render). I am not aware of any other workarounds cause I'm lazy to do some creative thinking.
  2. Sir, When we use the Autoprocess forming setups, for binder row, how is the use of the column 'Type'? When I toggle the option to 'Gap', the three columns as highlighted in the attached picture are available. Please elaborate how to fill those cells.
  3. Submitted by Joe on Tue, 05/11/2010 - 18:22 I am modelling one boiler. The burner will be working at duty or standby mode. However, due to the boiler's design limit, once the boiler goes into standby mode, it can not switch to duty mode within 10 minutes. I wonder how I can add this 10 minutes gap in the model?
  4. Hi, Does anyone know how to create gap elements around a cylinder which is inserted into another part? Thank you, Soraya
  5. Hi there, Is it possible to define an initial contact between to surfaces in HyperCrash, while running RADIOSS, so that there isn't neither a gap nor an initial penetration? Thanks
  6. Hello, Could you give me one method to create element gap between the axis and the lug ? I use Optistruct with nonlinear gap analysis. The nodes of the lug and the axis have the same coordinate. Mesh with CPENTA and CHEXA. Thanks for help. Benoit

Hello, I want to simulate a rivet Joint just applied shear force. Between the rivet and the hole in the metal Sheets is a gap. I get convergence but the rivet turns a Little. u can see it if u watch the displacement Contour plot on the rivet which is not symmetric. Is that because of the coarse mesh? I tried to use gap elements but maybe i put some wrong Setting. attachted are the model. Can anybody help me to fix the Problem? rivet_joint.zip
  8. Hi there, I m performing a 3-point bending analysis on a beam (L=250mm, Squared Cross-section 30*30) and once I refine my mesh to a certain degree (elements' characteristic length < 0.5mm) I start getting error messages sent by RADIOSS. The first tells me I have initial penetration on my self-impact interface and the second is message error id 22: ShellID ... has 2 identical nodes that are not 3&4. Any idea on how to solve these issues? I ve already tried to decrease the minimum gap for initial impact, but it didn't work. Any help would be great Thanks
