  1. Hi All, is there a way to perform a thermo-structural analysis of two bodies in contact, in which the energy related to the contact tangent force is converted to heat? I want to obtain the temperature map in a brake, given the geometry, the material properties and the contact force. Thanks, Enrico
  2. Hello, I'm new in Altair Hypermesh and I'm doing a thermal analysis of an electrospindle. I have to analyze the grid temeperatures in the following case: There is a bearing in one extrem of the spindle and another one in the other extreme. They generate a constant heat flux, but with a different value. Besides, the electric motor is another heat source. With the aim of evacuate the heat, I apply a negative flux in housing's Surface. The problem is that I want to do a heat transient analysis, in which the negative flux is always active, but the bearing's and the motor's fluxes are disabled when 10 minutes have been passed. Anyone knows how I can introduce a flux that depends of the time? Greetings, DavidSol.
  3. Hello, excuse me for interrupting. I am doing a simple Steady State Heat Transfer problem with the aim of undestanding how HyperMesh/OptiStruct Works with heat fluxes. My case is a cube on which there are 3 fluxes applied on 3 different faces (red faces in the photo) and there are 2 faces for the convection (cian faces). I am trying to verify if introduced heat is the same as evacuated heat. I know the applied power and I am looking for the way to obtain the evacuated fluxes, normal to the convection faces. Perhaps exists a card for this purpose, but I don't find it. I know that, if I plot the "elemente fluxes" I can obtain the flux of an element in the three directions, (X,Y,Z), but this flux is proper to the control volumen, no to the normal face of evacuation.To sum up, I want to know if there is an option to know the evacuated heat in a Steady State Heat Transfer problem, the flux normal to the convection Surface. Hello all! can i solve issue is like this? i have 2 plates ( but plates are not a siple form) which are separated by air. how can i solve it task? is it possible in optistruct using heat transfer analysis. i have created 2 interface convection. 1-plate blue and point 2-point and plate brown. but it doesn't work. plate blue heated (in blue plate is root of heat), but the brown plate was cooling=( Do you have any idea? thanks.
  5. Hello again, I'm doing a tutorial, OS1080, and i didn't understand why is used SPC, with all the boxes of degrees of freedom uncheked. What the SPC is used for? The subcase is (Heat Thansfer (Steady State). I found something about SPC on Reference Guide. The first figure bellow.The Step 4, from tutorial, tell me to make this SPC. Thanks!
  6. Hi everyone I have a question that I can not solve. A spherical metal ball of radius R is placed in an infinitely large volume of motionless fluid. The ball is maintained at a temperature of TR, while the temperature of the fluid far from the ball is T∞ (The boundary condition for the fluid far from the ball; R=∞ → T=T∞ ). a)Find an expression for the temperature distrubution within the fluid. b) Find an expression for the rate of heat transferred to the fluid. c) Show that Nusselt number is equal to 2. d)Calculate the heat flux at the surface of the sphere for the following values: R=2 cm, k=0.025 W/mK, TR=60°C, T∞=25°C
  7. Hello there, basically I am doing an analysis of our brake disc for formula student in radioss. So far the structual part works and the energies look fine. The next step is to get the thermals in there. In the documentation for the type7 interface there exist an Fheat. But I can't find it in Hypermesh. So my Question is whether the enegry transformation into heat is working or not if only I_the is activated. Another strange problem I am facing at the moment is that if i define a starting temperature in Ti and T0 (~300 K) the results still show me 0 K. By the way I am using Block 120 because on the cluster only 120 is installed. Looking forward for some help.
  8. Greetings, i want to do a topology optimization for heat transfer with Simlab cause of my master thesis. To sum up my general content of my thesis: There should be a topology optimization of an electronic housing for better heat transfer to the ambient. The housing will be manufactured by additive methods (SLM). First i am trying to build some simple models to test the general form of the results and to check my constraints. For this i built a model, the topology optimization is already done (picture): On the top plain is a heat flow given and on the lower plain a constant temperature. I used Optistruct with steady state heat flow, default material parameters/optimization parameters. Objective function to minimize is the thermal complaince while keeping the mass fraction of the design area betweeen both top and bottom plains under a specific value (e.g 0.2). Design area has the shape of an pyramid with cutted top. I want to generate structures which evenly transfer the heat from a small area(top) to a wide area (bottom). This result picture (opened with hyperview, last iteration and showing iso lines of the element density) shows that the aspect of reducing the mass working but the structure seems not to spread the heat evenly. Which constraints i need to adjust to get the intended results? Two other questions: Is it not possible to generate a material with anisotropic heat conductive? And how to extract the generated topology as a stl, step or other file to load it into a CAD Software. At the end i need to put in these topologies into the housing. Thanks for your help!
  9. The current Inspire 2016 have a heat load case. I would like to know is the heat load case more than the mechanical load from heat expansion? I haven't been able to use the heat input to optimize a heat sink as there are only 'Volume constraint' and 'stiffness constraint' in the optimization. Is there a possibility of implying a heat constraint? Do you know if all constraints are mechanical? Thank you for your answer, Jukka
