  1. Hello I am using RADIOSS to simulate a crash test which I have previously done. The trajectory of the impactor before impact is complex and requires several linkages and mechanisms to set up. The area of interest is the post-impact behaviour (stress/strain) on the target component, as well as the trajectory of the impactor. When I run the impactor by itself, to see the launch trajectory, I get a reasonable run time of about an hour. When I run the impactor with a simplified initial velocity + the target with all the contact and failure cards defined, I get a reasonable run of about 3 hours. When I run the full model: impactor with the initial trajectory + the target with all the contact and failure cards defined, I get a run around 12 hours to reach the impact, and another 12-24 hours to get results from post impact trajectory. I believe this is partly due the finer mesh required for the target model. I was hoping there is a way I can split the analysis in two, using the results from a the first as an initial condition for the second. Consider the following scenario: Model A: Simple model with only what is required to set off the trajectory of the impactor. The target is not modeled. Run from T=0 to T=T_impact. The run is stopped at the moment where the impact would have occurred. Model B: The target, with finer mesh and contact and fail definition is introduced, and the analysis is "RESTART" picking up from where Model A left off. In other words the target (with finer mesh) only appears just before impact onwards. This should theoretically cut down the majority of the analysis time. Is there a way to set up a RESTART file with introduction of new elements / properties / fail cards, and linking it to a "Stopped" run? I hope the diagrams attached illustrates what I'd like to do.   2. Hi there, I m trying to validate a 3 point bending simulation using a paper which presents both numerical and experimental data. I followed the exact same setup but the resultant force I keep getting is always 20% smaller than the one pretended. I've double-checked materials, properties, contacts and boundary conditions and nothing seems to change. I've tried the validation process with different papers and I always get the same problem. Any idea on what I might be doing wrong? Thanks,

  4. Hello together, At the moment I am working on impact simulations in Radioss. I have an aluminium cylinder (solid elements, MAT Law 2, Initial Velocity) impacting a rigid wall. The total energy (TE = KE + IE) should be constant, but there is a jump in the curve. The DTE curve remains constant. The external work shows a decrease, too. Is my simulation correct? Should i use the DTE curve instead of the TE curve for validation?

  6. HUByx is a finite element human body model developed by CEDREM. It features many internal organs as well as a representation of the internal fluid. This enables a pressure propagation inside the body due to an impact or a blast. The model has been validated for two kinds of loadings. The first one is medium speed impacts. The numerical force vs deflection curves at different locations were compared to the experimental ones. The second one is blast loading. An experimental setup with torso surrogates was reproduced. The numerical pressure vs time curves in different organs were compared to experimental ones. A presentation video is available. For now, only the torso is available in the Academic Partner Alliance.   7. Hi all, I am looking for some assistance in impact testing within Radioss. I have been working on the pre-processing part where I have set up the material for the composite using LAW25, and as a result, used P10 as the property card. Also, I have defined type 7 contact between the steel indentor and the composite specimen (the whole components were chosen rather than inidividual nodes). I am finding it difficult to define the output control cards properly. Specifically, the following control cards: ENG_ANIM_DT ENG_OUTP_DT ENG_OUTP_DT ENG_RUN ENG_TFILE How do I determine these values? I believe, the values I am inputting are wrong, and running my simulation seems to take minimum of 45 minutes. . Also, how do I obtain physical data from the simulation, which I can then use to plot parameters with respect to time? Thanks.
  8. Hi everyone, I'm new to radioss. I'm trying to solve an drop test analysis in radios.I have solved this by making a 0.1 mm thickness pad as rigid wall. Nut i could not get reaction force or impact load as result. somewhere in this forum i have read that creating rigidwall using RWALL gives reaction forces on the wall. So i want to ask 2 questions listed them below. Kindly answer them in any way you can. Any help is appreciated 1) Is there some way that i can get reaction forces for the current setup ( pad 0.1 mm as rigidwall) ? if yes, please be kind and let me know how i can do that. 2) If rigidwall (RWALL) is good option, hoiw do I create it? if any of you have any study material or link that you can share, please do. I'm in trouble with this one.

  10. Hi We are doing a car impact analysis against a pole (created as a rigid wall - Geometry type = cylinder). The simulation is running, but the impact only affects the front part of the car, it does't transmit the impact energy to the entire car. We think that we are missing to make a contact between the entire car, but we don´t know how to do it. As you can see in the second image, the front part of the frame, goes through the base of the car.

Hi everyone, I'm a student in Design & Engineering at Politecnico of Milan and I'm trying out Solidthinking Inspire 2014 for my master thesis, which is on topology optimization applied to product design by designers. Right now I'm trying to optimize an hammer handle, but I've some difficulties in setting the simulation in the right way. The force applied to the head of the hammer during the usage is an impulsive one. I can't find a way to set a force of this type on my model, so I tried to make an approximation: hammer head mass: m = 1 kg impact speed: V = 10 m/s impact time: 1/100 s I've considered an inelastic collision. after some calculation, based on the relation p = m*V I've found out a force F = 1000 N to be applied on the head. My questions are: 1 - Is there a way to set an impact force in Inspire (2014)? Has someone solved a similar problem? 2 - Is mine a valid approximation? The force value doesn't need to be 100% accurate, I just need to know if my procedure is correct or if there's a better way to set the problem in Inspire Thank you in advance

Hi there, I m performing a 3-point bending analysis on a beam (L=250mm, Squared Cross-section 30*30) and once I refine my mesh to a certain degree (elements' characteristic length < 0.5mm) I start getting error messages sent by RADIOSS. The first tells me I have initial penetration on my self-impact interface and the second is message error id 22: ShellID ... has 2 identical nodes that are not 3&4. Any idea on how to solve these issues? I ve already tried to decrease the minimum gap for initial impact, but it didn't work. Any help would be great Thanks
  13. Hello everyone, I am simulating an impact of a cylinder on a plate and I have found something not coherent. When the cylinder hits the plate, the total energy is not constant anymore. But it should. Does someone know why the total energy increases and then decreases ? Thank you for your help. Emilien
  14. Dear Sir, I want to do a three point bending test of carbon fiber laminate in Hypermesh with Radioss. I found something puzzle when i create the contact between components after i had defined materials, properties (CFK using M25_COMPSH and property with it using P17_STACK), plies, laminate and some of boundary conditions. I chose TYPE 7 as the card image to let laminate be a slave entity and impactor be a mater entity but i found i cannot select my laminate component in the option(i can only see other component) Is there any mistake in my operation? Here are some pics under. I am exactly green hand in radioss, my apology... and I hope someone can help me on this.
