1. ## Discrepancy between FEM mass and mass during optimization

Greetings, I have a FEM model whose mass calculated by Hypermesh (under Tools > masscalc) is equal to 2.22 kg I am running a free-size optimization of this model. From the design parameters summary reflected in the *.out file (shown below), the sum of design and non-design mass is equal to 2.51524 kg: After the iterations begin, the mass registered in iteration 0 is 2.34766 kg Question: Is it wrong to expect the following: FEM mass = (design + non-design mass) = mass at iteration 0? Why are these values different?

Hi everybody, I am a new user, and these are my questions: How can we modify the direct method to adjoint method? How can we access and print the values of built-in adjoint-based sensitivities at each iteration? Also, Could we change the sensitivities and feed them to OPTISTRUCT instead of the default re-built ones? I am looking forward to hearing from you.
3. ## Non Linear Iterations and convergence doubt!

Hello, I would like to understand what the solver is doing wile trying to solve a nonlinear problem. I understand I have stated in NLPARAM to star iteration at 1.0E-2. I have also activated ExpertNL In the next picture, what is the solver doing each iteration of each load step? what is changing? what Average U, Err. EPI, Measures EWI mean? WHat is the goal of the solver to notice it is reaching convergence?
4. ## Iteration/Looping

Is there any way that iterations can be implemented such as for loop or while loop using a single block similar to those in LabView? Is it possible to execute a program continuously, with a stop and pause option? How can they be done?
5. ## Desmax

Hello everyone As an optimization reached the limit of iterations, I have set a DESMAX. Is it possible, by setting a higher DESMAX, more iterations are needed for the same progress. Because since a set DESMAX to a higher number, the progress time has slown down - instead of taking 24h for a progress of 50% it now takes almost double the time and a higher amount of iteration to reach 50% total progress. Thank you in advance for your help.
6. ## Size Optimization doesn't lower desvar value

Hi, I'm working on a complicated size optimization with many different beams. This script https://connect.altair.com/CP/kb-view.html?kb=41128 seems to be really useful for the problem. Unfortunately, the values of the design variables doesn't reduce during the iterations, which leads to the soft convergence. If I change the initial value near the lower bound value, the optimization works. Of course this isn't an acceptable solution for bigger models. I attached the example file. The initial values are set equal to the upper bound values, so that the problem becomes clear. Could you help me with this problem? Best regards, Kai example1.hm
7. ## Topology optimization problem after iteration 31

Hello, i’m doing a topology optimization with Optistruct. The part is a rotational symmetric body, which is loaded with 8 independent cosine functions uniformly distributed over the circumference. Each one has its own Load Step. Until iteration number 31 everything works fine, the process is at 40% and the results looks quite good, but definitely not finished yet . But then the optimization freezes and remains in this state. The last entry in the .stat-File is shown here. Does anybody know, what the problem could be? What means the FCTMTX at subcase 4?
