  1. Hello, I have set a Nonlinear quasi static analysis (type NLSTAT) with two consequent load steps (using CNTNLSUB option). In my model two parts are gradually getting in contact (something similar as roller - plane contact), where also friction is taken into account. In the first step a radial force is pushing the roller towards the plane and in the second step additional lateral force is applied. Everything works fine, the results seem meaningful. Now I would like to set a first load step with contact type SLIDE and the second (continuous) load step with friction in contact. Is this possible in Optistruct? Thanks for your help!   2. I am using the NLOUT card to gain access to the incremental results of a non-linear problem for which I am using the NLSTAT solver. Is there a way that I can write these incremental results for a single node to an output punch file? I am familiar with how to produce the punch output file (enable the output request in the subcase options, choose the quantity I want to output, define a set containing the nodes I want the results on, set the format to punch), but this seems to only write results for the final load increment. If this isn't a possibility, is there a convenient way in hyperview that I could run a macro/tcl script to access these results for a single node and store them in a text file?
  3. Hi, I am doing a simple contact simulation in Radioss Bulk Data between 2 2D surfaces meshed with shell elements. The first surface is similar to an S-shaped extruded plate and the second one is just a rectangular surface near the s-shaped. Distance between surfaces is 0.1 compared to 0.5 el. size. Contact surfaces (near the gap) were created with the SURF card and it was ensured that their normals were pointing to each other. I want to do two consecutive subcases. In both of them the top of the S-shaped sheet is fixed. 1) The rectangular plate is constrained with some predefined distance (in my case, SPC with dof1=4 and all other dof=0), so it pushes the S-shape. 2) The plate goes back to zero and the S-shape should go back to the origin (or a bit less if there is plastic deformation). To do this I modified the constrained of the rectangular plate to have 0 for all dof for the SPC constrained. I also turned the CNTLSUB option on and put it to YES. However, it seems like the unloading does not start from the loading case and the plate just stays at zero. I have tried different contacts (initially SLIDE and then STICK and FREEZE) but the result was the same. Attached is also a sample file. Any help would be appreciated. Georgi Shell_Contact.zip
  4. Hi, Is it possible to use spot connectors in non-linear quasi-static? I don't have problems in linear static. The problem is that in non-linear quasi-static the analysis finishes but I can't see the results in MPCFORCES. Regards.
  5. Hi everybody, I'm doing a shape optimization of a NLSTAT analysis (nonlinear contact and material are involved). I need stress or strain responses but, as soon as I launch the optimization, this error is shown to me: Which responses are possible to use with this type of optimization? It is possible to eventually use plastic strain responses? Best regards, Luke31
  6. I was trying to do a NLSTAT problem with foams (Primarily Pretension of bolts and then shrink of Foams ). But could not find any option to create materials with Hyperfoam capability like in Abaqus. Is that option available in OptiStruct for NLSTAT analysis ?
  7. Hello all, I get error code below after a converged NLSTAT analysis, hence result files could not be written. Same problem occurs after restart run of last increment of that analysis on different workstations (there is plenty of disk space by the way). *** Nonlinear solution has converged *** (Scratch disk space usage for starting iteration = 2679 MB) *** INTERNAL PROGRAMMING ERROR *** in file "virfile.c", at location # 318.
