  1. Hello, The Topology Optimization in Optistruct by default uses the Direct method for the Sensitivity analysis. I am predicting the result variation using the Adjoint method. It would be of great help to me if I know the way that I can make the solver use the Adjoint method of Sensitivity anslysis. Any help is appreciated! Thanks!
  2. Hi everybody, I am a new user, and these are my questions: How can we modify the direct method to adjoint method? How can we access and print the values of built-in adjoint-based sensitivities at each iteration? Also, Could we change the sensitivities and feed them to OPTISTRUCT instead of the default re-built ones? I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Optimization/buckling analysis cannot be performed. due to possible rigid body mode.   4. Hello,Forums I am doing analysis of a unique CFRP pipe by Optistruct. I am receiving this following error message: *** ERROR # 605 *** Element 1 is referenced by STACK 1 (on PLY 1) and by STACK 2 (on PLY 5) simultaneously. Different stacks are created by dividing the upper and lower areas of the pipe into sets. There seems to be an error because it refers to the same element Is there any good way to do it? (Modeling is possible but analysis is error) CFRP-PIPE-Asymmetric laminated.hm
  5. Hi, I am working on a lattice optimization problem for a UAV configuration and I am getting the following error for a series of grid points to which REB2 and REB3 elements have been attached. There is also a SET defined in the model containing all of these points. *** ERROR # 835 *** A dependent d.o.f. of rigid elements should not be defined in ASET. grid id = 23766106 component = 1 I have an idea of how to fix the issue but I do not want to mess up the FEM file as I was not the original creator. Any pointers?

  11. Hi, Since this morning I try to run optimization but I always get the same results: an optimization error (even for a simple model such as below where the load case seems correct to me ...). Do you know where this may come from ? (I have succeeded other optimizations the previous days using the same computer & software configuration, for information)
  12. I've set up an optimization study based on tutorial HS-4220 optimization of an impacted beam using my own model for the gauge optimization of crash structure for an ATV. During the both evaluation and optimization, HyperStudy fails to extract the results. Upon looking into the folders it appears that the jobs are not even run in the first place. In order to get the initial results from the setup evaluation, I manually launched the jobs using RADIOSS in the same working directory and they ran fine, generating the required output files. Could someone provide some idea as to why the jobs are not launching correctly through hyperstudy? I would like to run a fairly large optimization study, and manually launching the jobs will take too much time. I have attached the starter, engine, template and HS files.   13. Hi all, I’m trying to achieve a specific shaped structure through optimization but I couldn’t reach this goal yet. I want to achieve a structure which (of course) fulfill all constraints, with minimize weight. So far so good but I want that during the optimization, no horizontal structures are created I tried it with draft in one direction, but the results were no satisfying. At least it would maybe help if it is possible to create two different draw directions (x- and y-direction). Is this possible? I also tried to manipulate the AM-Overhang-Constraints with 0° in horizontal and 60° vertical to get structures with at least 40° vertical, but through this it needs over 100h for 6 Iterations without creating an satisfying shape. Is there a workaround I haven’t considered yet? Thanks in advance!

  16. Hello SolidThinking community, Could someone please point out what I'm doing wrong, or advise a better way of setting my part up for optimization? My part pivots around a shaft near the top such that, it can swing down to contact a vertical wall. I am unsure how to "fix" the wall in all directions. Currently I am using small displacement constraints set to 10e-6. I have set the contact between the wall and part as "contact", and the contact between the shaft and part as "bonded". The contact along the top surface, where the pressure is applied, is "bonded" with the part. The optimization fails every time.. Any help would be great appreciated. Cheers!

  18. Hello! I have a rocker which should be optimized. I added force and joints, but no matter I try maximize stiffness or minimum mass (there is always "design violations" with the safety factor) the results are not so good.   19. Hi, I'm a final year student currently undergoing a final year project about lower arm suspension. I'm still new to this software and I'm hoping that you guys can help. After I've optimized my lower arm suspension by minimization of its mass, it says design violation and it had shown me my original factor Of Safety 2.1. Does it mean it needs to be higher or lower? Or did I do something wrong in applying the force? grtab.stmod
  20. Hello, I run the optimization without errors. However when I check the results in the iso mode, the final step shows an model without elements already at an iso-value of 0.02 (only the non-design elements left). What am I doing wrong? The hist.mvw and the .out files attached belong to the mvw and hm files (when saving I only changed the version from 2 to 3). Could anybody please help me?   21. Hi Guys, I'd like to share "Tips and Tricks" regarding Lattice Design and the NonDesign Space. First to mention: Please keep Inspire updated - we introduced Lattice in 2017.3 but the last few months, we put a lot of effort to increase performance and stability! ATM (April 2018), 2018.1 is best to work with! If you are unhappy with the "resolution" of your nonDesign spaces after a lattice optimization - you can manually force the nondesignspace (per part) to use smaller elementsize inside the model configuration: Comparison: Before: After: Furthermore, you can create a smoothed lattice before you export it as an STL: Regards, Felix

I need to use the lattice optimization tool but I don't understand the difference between the 4 types of lattices. I tried all of them and the geometry seems a bit different but I would like some further details about that.
