  1. Is there any way to call a Hypermesh model from MATLAB? Is there any interface for them. I need to use my FEA model which is a Hypermesh model in an Optimization MATLAB code. How I can recall it in MATLAB? Thanks,
  2. Hey guys, I have a question on the theory of the SIMP Method used in OptiStruct to perform a Topology Optimization. I got that the stiffness matrix of a material is varied depending on its "density" and that using the penalization factor p, we are aiming for design with only 0 and 1 values in the end. For me it's still unclear, how OptiStruct is calculating these density values. How does the solver know where I have an element with density 0, 1 or something in between?   3. Hi there, I wanted to know if it's possible to define thickness steps when performing topology optimization using Optistruct. For example assume there is a body of PSHELL elements, Initial thickness is 10 and base thickness is 2.5 and between these two values only 6 is permissible. Or in another case only 8.5 and 2.5 are possible for final part. How can I go with this kind of problems? The real problem is to decrease some deflections of sheet metal parts by adding welded patches so thickness in different regions can not be any value. For example if initial thickness is 2.5 mm then I want to improve strength by only welding some 6 mm thickness patches to it so optimization output must be only 2.5 and 8.5 mm thickness. Please let me know if my question is not clear. Thanks in advance.

Hello, After completing the optimization, there are 50 runs due to the algorithm and inside all of the runs there are s1.h3d files where I can see the results of each evaluation and I can add results manually in hyperview but for more evaluations it is quite a hard job to do. So I wanted to ask if there is an easier or automatized way to see all s1.h3d files of runs together in hyperview? thank you
  5. hello, i'm doing a size optimization in order to match the drequencies targets for the first 10 modes. so i defined my design variable wich is the PBUSH stifness k1..k6 and as and objective is the MIn using DSYSID (iwth all the 10 first frequancies and the targets) but some how i don't have the right results thats i want i have in my model DESVAR refered to stifness of PBUSH DVPREL1 DRESP1 MIN WITH a DSYSID everythings is well defined i don"t if there something else to add to my optimization to work

  7. Hi All, I’m working on the structural design of an orthogrid cylinder. I’d like to perform a DOE, in order to assess the optimum number of ring stiffeners. Is there a way to do that with HyperStudy or HyperMorph? Is it possible to automate the process, linking a parametric CAD model in Solidworks to Optistruct? Thank you for your time Enrico

  9. Hi, I need to convert my optimization result to a 3D CAD model for 3D printing. The model is divided into design and non design spaces. When I export the model, only design space is converted. How I can convert the whole model into CAD model. When I try to export the solver deck as .stl file, there is not .stl file option available. I appreciate if someone can help. Thanks, Soraya
  10. flaecheopti_multiobjective.femHello, i was trying to make a multi-objective optimization by combining a "massfrac" and a "compliance" response in the dresp2 "function" card. Unfortunately I always get the following error message: A fatal error has been detected during input processing: *** ERROR # 557 *** DRESP2 3 is not referenced above the first SUBCASE. This type of response must be specified above the first SUBCASE. This error occurs in DESOBJ 3. I don't understand how I'm supposed to reference the dresp2 above the first subcase. The Hyperworks Help does not specify how to reference it above the subcase only that in some cases it is necessary. I tried to create the responses before creating the loadstep but that didn't solve it. I also tried to just cut+paste the objective section from the subcase information in the .fem-file infront of the loadstep section. But running the edited .fem-file from the command prompt didn't work either. Am I missing something here? The .fem-file is (hopefully) attached. Thanks for any helpful tip!
  11. Hello Everyone, I urgently need your help. I have to do an optimisation of a B-Pillar which i have already simulated in Radioss according to 3 point Bending. This was my first time with hyperstudy so i guess i did many thing wrong by defining output responces and contraints i guess. The aim is to hold the intrusion level same and minimize the mass of the structure. I would be really appriciated if someone could help me. i ll post some screenshots here because somehow i cant save the hyperstudy file. Actually i can save but cant open again. It gives error. I just added the size parameters. Shape parameters i will add them later when i understand how hyperstudy works exactly After nominal run i tried to evalute the study But i get this error : Full folder is in the attachments. I need urgent help to finish master thesis. Thanks in advance
  12. Hi everyone, I'm trying to set up a model for an optimization problem and in the model I have CHBDYE surface elements for the heat convection. When I try to run the optimization, I get the error message 'CHBDYE surface element can't exist in topology or free-size design domain.' Does it mean that I can't have those elements on my design space or should I define them in another way? Best Regards Mert
  13. Hello, My question is about the time of calculus on Inspire. I've started an optimization calculus yesterday on my project and it was finished in about 2 hours. After that, I wanted to check the difference in the optimization after activating "optimization" in the property windows of the 8 nuts in my model and the optimization is now running for 16 hours.   14. Hello, I am quite new to hypermesh and I want to create simple solid beam which has a hole and then I want to move the hole. I have built the model in hypermesh and added all the constraints, I have tried morphing but it deformed my meshes while moving the hole by making my beam longer.   18. Hı everyone, We are trying to do lattice optimization with different types. We tried every way, we thought. And we get different errors every time. Finally we have made the hexa mesh using another program. And then solved in Optistruct. Although there is no problem in the solution, the lattice.fem file does not occur. Could you help me?   21. Hello community, I got a little bit confused while reading the OptiStruct 2017 User’s Guide. There I found that OptiStruct selects automatically the best optimization algorithm. Five items have been listed there (page 10-11): - Optimality criteria method - Convex approximation method - Method of feasible directions - Sequential quadratic programming - Advanced approximations . My question is: Does OptiStruct still selects the Optimality criteria method automatically? And for which type of optimization? There is no information about it in the User’s Guide or Reference Guide. I want to optimize the topology of the 2 dimensional MMB-Beam (see atteched figure). My objective is to minimize compliance subjected to a volume fraction constraint. I found that for my type of problem I shoud use 'OPTMETH=DUAL' since I have a large number of design variable and only one constraint. So I cannot choose the Optimality criteria method in topology optimization? Many thanks in advance Nahid
  22. Hi, The problem consists of a connecting rod submitted to axial loads which define the phases of admission (traction) and combustion (compression). I am trying to run the following optimization: 2 load steps : linear static (traction) linear static (compression) 2 responses : Volume Compliance 1 constraint : 60% Volume 1 objective : minimize compliance Without combining the two load steps, I managed to run the optimization. I couldn't find a way integrating the two load steps for the optimization. I found that the only time that I can include the load step is when I define the objective. However only one load step can be selected. Therefore I was wondering if there is a way to integrate both of the load steps mentioned earlier. Thank you !
  23. Hello, I'm currently trying to optimize the laminate of a cfk part with the free sizing optimization. At the end of the run it states "OPTIMIZATION HAS CONVERGED" "FEASIBLE DESIGN (ALL CONSTRAINTS SATISFIED)" but the programm is just reducing the mass while the displacement constantly gets bigger and is far bigger than the max displacement constraint I set for the optimization. The total displacement constraint is set to -2mm. Min ply thickness is set to 2mm and max 50mm.

I get the following error message: *** ERROR # 5617 *** The SUBCASE ID in ATT1 field of DRESP1 1 does not refer to a modal FRF subcase. *** Run terminated because of error(s) in the input data. I actually did the same as in tutorial OS 3010. I hope you can help me My model is attached pangelo.
  25. Hello SolidThinking community, Could someone please point out what I'm doing wrong, or advise a better way of setting my part up for optimization? My part pivots around a shaft near the top such that, it can swing down to contact a vertical wall. I am unsure how to "fix" the wall in all directions. Currently I am using small displacement constraints set to 10e-6. I have set the contact between the wall and part as "contact", and the contact between the shaft and part as "bonded". The contact along the top surface, where the pressure is applied, is "bonded" with the part. The optimization fails every time.. Any help would be great appreciated. Cheers!
