  1. Hı everyone, We are trying to do lattice optimization with different types. We tried every way, we thought. And we get different errors every time. Finally we have made the hexa mesh using another program. And then solved in Optistruct. Although there is no problem in the solution, the lattice.fem file does not occur. Could you help me? Thank you.

I get the following error message: *** ERROR # 5617 *** The SUBCASE ID in ATT1 field of DRESP1 1 does not refer to a modal FRF subcase. *** Run terminated because of error(s) in the input data. I actually did the same as in tutorial OS 3010. I hope you can help me My model is attached pangelo.

  6. Hello community, I got a little bit confused while reading the OptiStruct 2017 User’s Guide. There I found that OptiStruct selects automatically the best optimization algorithm. Five items have been listed there (page 10-11): - Optimality criteria method - Convex approximation method - Method of feasible directions - Sequential quadratic programming - Advanced approximations . My question is: Does OptiStruct still selects the Optimality criteria method automatically? And for which type of optimization? There is no information about it in the User’s Guide or Reference Guide. I want to optimize the topology of the 2 dimensional MMB-Beam (see atteched figure). My objective is to minimize compliance subjected to a volume fraction constraint. I found that for my type of problem I shoud use 'OPTMETH=DUAL' since I have a large number of design variable and only one constraint. So I cannot choose the Optimality criteria method in topology optimization? Many thanks in advance Nahid

    Optimization in WinProp

    Hello, How can I implement my own optimization algorithm in winprop? It is worth to mention that I want to use the algorithm for sites placements depending on several factors like Power, Data Rate, Capacity... etc. I tried using OptMan but there are no resources in that on how to use it.   8. My model is a simple 1D PBEAML element structure (BOX beam sections) assigned for linear static analysis. I was able to assign design variables and property relationships for beam thickness 1 & 2. Then I assigned the optimization response for all nodes and constrainted them by lower/upper bounds ±25.4 mm under the objective of minimizing mass. With these steps, I was able to reduce the weight of the structure as well as meeting my displacement design criteria as closest as possible. However, the issue is now the stress increased beyond the yield strength. So I went back to my model and added the optimization reponse for static stress for all properties and constrained them with lower/upper bounds -234.4 MPa and 289.6 MPa (compressive and tensile yield strength). I made sure the response and loadsteps are assigned to the optimization constrain properly. After running the optimization, I checked the results in Hyperview, but it doesn't seem like the stress part hasn't been assigned correctly. I'm specifically looking for constrainting Element Stresses (1D) (s) - CBAR/CBEAM Axial Stress. It seems like there are other types of stress you can assign besides the static stress, such as frf stress and psd stress? Please help me.
  9. Hello,Forums I am doing analysis of a unique CFRP pipe by Optistruct. I am receiving this following error message: *** ERROR # 605 *** Element 1 is referenced by STACK 1 (on PLY 1) and by STACK 2 (on PLY 5) simultaneously. Different stacks are created by dividing the upper and lower areas of the pipe into sets. There seems to be an error because it refers to the same element Is there any good way to do it? (Modeling is possible but analysis is error) CFRP-PIPE-Asymmetric laminated.hm
  10. Hello, I run the optimization without errors. However when I check the results in the iso mode, the final step shows an model without elements already at an iso-value of 0.02 (only the non-design elements left). What am I doing wrong? The hist.mvw and the .out files attached belong to the mvw and hm files (when saving I only changed the version from 2 to 3). Could anybody please help me?   11. Hi, I am doing topology optimization for a cantilever beam and I want to know the mass reduction after optimization. Does anyone know how to calculate the mass for optimized result. In lattice optimization , I can import the .fem file into hyperworks and calculate the mass. But for topology optimization, it didn't work. Is there anyway I can calculate the mass for topology optimized results. Thank you, Regards, Soraya

I am trying to do Free Shape Optimization of Large Displacement Non-linear Mooney/ODGEN material using EXPDYN and ultimately ELSM for equaivalent static load method as shown using OPTISTRUCT solver. I have setup model for EXPDYN using MAT1 and MATX42 with XSTEP in Sec with TA0=0.0 and DTA = 0.005 and TTERM = 0.05. I have contact surface defines by FRICTION with nu = 0 & 0.3(case-2). But i am getting error of INITIAL PENETRATION. I have seen earlier answers and removed penetration but still error is there. I have tried with TIE contacts as well.(.OUT and .rad file attached), but it is running for hours and no output is generated till. I want to know where i have made wrong. and If you could tell me how ELSM in OPTISTRUCT works? Could anyone please help me? Thanks in advanse...!   15. Hey guys, I was wondering if it is possible to setup the following optimization problem. Lets say I have a set of nodes and bar elements. This framework has some loads and boundary conditions. I am not sure if the node position of each node is optimal regarding compliance. I would like to define "shapes" for the nodes where I can set some pertubations e.g. Node x can move in a sphere of radius y. I have not seen this kind of optimization although I think it must be possible from an algorithmic point of view. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  17. Hello, I would like to do some lattice optimization in Hypermesh. However, I need to know if it is possible to have a different mesh size for the lattice sections compared to the solid sections. The way I understand lattice optimization in Altair is that the element size you mesh with originally will determine the average length of the lattice struts. For example; I tetra mesh my model with a size of 2, the lattice beams have an average length of 2. However, I would like to have a mesh size of 0.5 with lattice elements of length 2 (or vice versa). My game plan is to run a minimize compliance with volume fraction on my model with a penalization of 1.8 (low porosity). Then use the results of the compliance optimization to split my part into sections for a given element density threshold. I should end up with solids for the lattice elements and solids for the non-lattice elements. The lattice solid sections will then be filled with lattice beam elements from another lattice topology optimization. I want to remesh each solid individually for different lattice strut sizes and types. Contact surfaces will then be used to connect the solids together and then run the Lattice optimization. The end goal is to use mesh refinement on the non lattice sections to check the validity of my model as well as experiment with different lattice sizes. Any advice is greatly appreciated. -Eric

    Hello everybody, I'm preparing my master thesis using the software Optistruct 14. I need to use the lattice optimization tool but I don't understand the difference between the 4 types of lattices. I tried all of them and the geometry seems a bit different but I would like some further details about that.

  25. Hello, I'm having troubles setting up a topography optimization using plies. The model is a heatshield with 3 different layers(thickness) and Im using PCOMPP card as property to them. I believe that the optimization settings are correct, because I had already used the same settings in a previous single layer model and it went ok. But when I try using stacked layers something goes wrong. Im getting the following error: *** ERROR # 79 *** DTPG data does not create any DVGRID data. There are no free referenced GRIDs. There may be no elements associated with the PSHELL data. LOAD or BOTH may be specified and all grids may be loaded. BC, SPC, or BOTH may be specified and all grids may be SPCed. Any thoughts?? If there is some paper relating modal+plies+optimization that can be provided I'll appreciate. Thanks in advance.
