  2. Hello, I am working on a composite optimization problem. I follow the skateboard tutorial but I have several components in my problem (not all composite). I am trying to minimize the mass given some static displacement constraints. Phase 1 (free size) and phase 2 (size) optimizations are problem free but when I import the shuffling file produced in phase 2 to hypermesh, I see that the laminate I am trying to shuffle optimize includes plies from other components. Have you ever encountered such a problem? I cannot share the files due to confidentiality agreement. Thanks
  3. How to define ply percentage & balance constrained in HyperStudy? Following are definition from fem file. DCOMP 1 STACK 2 + PLYPCT 45 20 25 BYANG + PLYPCT 90 55 60 BYANG + PLYPCT 45 20 25 BYANG + BALANCE -45.0 45.0 BYANG I have created model in hm for 32 ply. In hyper stydy I am defining discrete design variable for ply direction which will take up values -45,0,45,90. But I am unable to add ply percentage & balance constraints in hyper study. 32_ply.fem
  4. Dear all, I am trying to run a composite size optimization. I want to find the optimal thickness of each ply I have created in my laminate. My model consists in shell elements. I only have created one laminate that have multiple plies. I want to optimize each ply thickness. I tried with the "ply thickness" and PTMIN and PTMAN but did not work (minimize mass subjected to displacement). No iterations are run and it just gives me the results of a normal FEM analysis. Any idea why? Or how should I do it? Second question..I inserted the control card "global output request" CSTRESS CSTRAIN CFAILURE. The first two work fine, but I can not see the results of Composite Failure after the FEM analysis. It just gives me all value of 1. Any suggestion on how I can see the failure results of the composite? Thank you very much!!!!

  6. Hello, i want to reduce the dynamic stiffness of a rubber bearing by changing the geometry. I have an approximate idea of the "optimized" geometry of this rubber bearing therefore I created morphvolumes and changed the specified area (solid elements) by translating the handles. I saved these changes as shapes which are my design variables. I know that the optimum is between the initial model and the changed model. I want to do an optimization with optistruct to find the optimum. To reduce the dynamic Stiffness i need 3 responses and an equation (dont know another way so far). The calculation of the dynamic Stiffness is simple: Cdyn = Force/Displacement. First i defined an equation with the dequation-panel: F(x,y)=x/y --> where x is the "frf force (ELFORCE)" and y the displacement (frf displacement) which are two of the three responses. The Last response is "function" which includes the dequation and the other two responses defined before. I would like to minimize the response "function" (which is the dynamic stiffness). But it's not possible to create an objective which minimizes my response "function", i get following error: *** ERROR # 1812 *** Multiple responses are assigned to the DESOBJ objective function. A MINMAX/MAXMIN objective function definition with DOBJREF should be used instead. Number of responses = 1000 1) Do you know what the maximum number of responses is? (It's an frequency response analyis from 0 Hz to 3000 Hz with an increment of 3, thats why its 1000 responses (i guess)) . I created an obj reference "dobjref" which includes the response "function", then i created MINMAX objective.This works, and i can start the optimization but here i have some questions: 2) When i define the obj reference i can choose neg and pos reference. What can i do with these references? 3) I don't really know what this minmax function does. Does it minimize the maximum value of the equation? It is not my goal to minimize only the maximum value of the equation, it's rather minimizing the area of the function. 4) Is it normal that optistruct finds a solution after 2 iterations? I have two different shapes and i would expect that it takes a lot of time and iterations to find the optimum. I guess i did something wrong or forgot sth.   7. Hi all, I am using Hypermesh for a topology optimization and have to define a function response for my dconstraint. Three questions came up and I were unable to find anything in the Internet: 1. Which Syntax is used for the dequation? Or has anybody a list with commands? I can not figure out how to apply a power because this is not working: ^ 2. I created two responses x and y, which I would like to include into a third response using a function. When I define a equation f(x,y) = sqrt(x^2+y^2) and create a response with this equation, how do I link the responses x and y to the equation? 3. What is the diffrence between DRESP2, DRESP2V and DRESP2LV? Thank you all in advance and please excuse my lack of knoowledge, I am still learning. Best, Timo
  8. Hi! I am not sure why but when I try to import my geometry from solidworks to optistruct it only shows as a single component geometry while in Ansys it shows as different parts. I want to know how can I have multiple components in optistruct? I am performing size optimization so I need to assign different properties and thickness to different parts of the model.   9. Hello CAE Enthusiasts, Im currently trying to do a Free Size optimization on a composite model which is built on a ply based approach. After all, it seems that the Optimization is running fine. I got a feasible design after 7 Iterations and all constraints are satisfied. However, if i import my optimized FreeSize.fem into HyperWorks again the weight is off by 22.5 %. My optimization constraint is a weight of 600 grams. As a result I got roughly 735 gramms. The objective of this optimization is to minimize weightedCompliance. I tried several attempts to figure out what is wrong but i don`t get it. I would be glad if someone would get a hint or could take a look at the attached model. Thanks in advance.   10. Hello everyone, I did a 1D topology optimization of a lattice structure (composed of a large amount of PBeamL elements). I want now to perform a Size Optimization of each beam section. Is it possible to generate automatically the design variables (and design variables property relationship), of the lattice structure at this point ? Thank you in advance for the help. Nathalie
  11. Hi guys, how to run on one model optimization with compliance response and mass response? I can't make this happen. I already created in hyperstudy two models with different .tpl files - one for compliance and one for mass, then I get responses from .hgdata >> optimization >> objective. I can't open .out in hyperworks readers, work only with ASCII. It is possible to combine compliance and mass responses?
  12. I am trying to find some tutorials about multi-objective optimization by combining a "volfrac" and a "compliance" response in the DRESP2 "function" card. HS-4205 and HS-4425 ,these are not helpful to me.

  14. Hi everyone, I am new to lattice optimization, and i want to control the diameter beam size and have a better understanding of CLEAN option. If i understood well, CLEAN option can be used with MinRad to delete beams under the radii defined in MinRAD. - When i don't touch the lattice parameter panel, CLEAN is set to YES by default and clean beams with very small radii (E-05 mm) at the end of phase 2 - When i use only MinRad (2mm) and CLEAN set to NO, it get all the beams above the radius defined. - But when i use Minrad with a radius of 2mm and CLEAN set to YES, it has trouble creating a feasible design. Is it because CLEAN option only works with very small radii ? It doesn't simply delete beam under MinRad in the end of optimization? For information, my mesh size is 5 cm, and my objectif is to create à structure with big enought beam, but with less beam without changing the mesh. Thank you in advance.
  15. Hello SolidThinking community, Could someone please point out what I'm doing wrong, or advise a better way of setting my part up for optimization? My part pivots around a shaft near the top such that, it can swing down to contact a vertical wall. I am unsure how to "fix" the wall in all directions. Currently I am using small displacement constraints set to 10e-6. I have set the contact between the wall and part as "contact", and the contact between the shaft and part as "bonded". The contact along the top surface, where the pressure is applied, is "bonded" with the part. The optimization fails every time.. Any help would be great appreciated. Cheers!

  17. Hello! I have a rocker which should be optimized. I added force and joints, but no matter I try maximize stiffness or minimum mass (there is always "design violations" with the safety factor) the results are not so good.   18. Hi, I'm a final year student currently undergoing a final year project about lower arm suspension. I'm still new to this software and I'm hoping that you guys can help. After I've optimized my lower arm suspension by minimization of its mass, it says design violation and it had shown me my original factor Of Safety 2.1. Does it mean it needs to be higher or lower? Or did I do something wrong in applying the force? grtab.stmod
  19. Hello, I run the optimization without errors. However when I check the results in the iso mode, the final step shows an model without elements already at an iso-value of 0.02 (only the non-design elements left). What am I doing wrong? The hist.mvw and the .out files attached belong to the mvw and hm files (when saving I only changed the version from 2 to 3). Could anybody please help me?   20. Hi Guys, I'd like to share "Tips and Tricks" regarding Lattice Design and the NonDesign Space. First to mention: Please keep Inspire updated - we introduced Lattice in 2017.3 but the last few months, we put a lot of effort to increase performance and stability! ATM (April 2018), 2018.1 is best to work with! If you are unhappy with the "resolution" of your nonDesign spaces after a lattice optimization - you can manually force the nondesignspace (per part) to use smaller elementsize inside the model configuration: Comparison: Before: After: Furthermore, you can create a smoothed lattice before you export it as an STL: Regards, Felix

The Objective Function is Min Compliance. *** ERROR # 1807 *** Composite failure responses are applied to ply 9 which belongs to a topology or free-size domain. Help needed, Thank you

I need to use the lattice optimization tool but I don't understand the difference between the 4 types of lattices. I tried all of them and the geometry seems a bit different but I would like some further details about that.

  25. is there a reason why, when i run optimization via the script in the command file, the hyperworks solver view doesn't pop up? The solver view only shows up when i manually click on run options> OptiStruct
