  1. I am using HM 17.2 (Optistruct) and have no Radioss. My problem is using Contact in Optistruct. Somehow I can't get the result I am expecting because of the problems I have in my model. The contact doesn't seem to function the way I want it to be. There are errors that I don't get. Some errors are: *** INFORMATION # 4739 The structure of surface-to-surface contact element is quite different than that of node-to-surface contact element. No internal CGAP/CGAPG elements are created for surface-to-surface contact. *** INFORMATION # 3433 MUMPS solver is used by default for nonlinear analysis at subcase 1. I have only 1 version of HM and have only Optistruct too. Educate me please JDN_Loading_Beam_Rev_B2.hm

  3. Hi all, This question may be reasonably straight forward to answer (it isn't a trick question at all). When I perform a hyperstudy optimisation study with plate thickness being the variable. Is it possible to dictate what thicknesses I want hyperstudy to investigate? For instance, I have a structure with a plate where I want to know what thickness I can reasonably use without going over a stress limit but I also know that the thicknesses available are 5, 10, 16, 20 mm. How do I get hyperstudy to only look at those values? Cheers Andy
  4. I asked this question before in the forum but I am open to hearing new suggestions. In Ansys and Abaqus solvers I Used to apply a "Skin" (2D elements based on the outer surface of 3D elements) on castings in order to read superficial stresses in Hyperview. These elements were membrane elements and were declared different than regular shell elements. (.01 thicknesss shell elements) For Optistruct which type of element is the one suited as membrane element? Is there any other approach to read superficial stress on castings? Thank you!
  5. Good morning, I'm running a transient analysis of 2 gears (one of them with a preload and the other one with an imposed rotation). When I run it with Optistruct I get 2 problems: *** ERROR # 4965 *** Maximum number of time increment cutbacks reached, analysis aborted. The biggest problem comes here, if I analysis the results, the contact status is 0 everytime. The gears rotate but they don't seem to have a good contact. Moreover, I get high normal contact forces at points where there should be any contact (see image attached).   8. Hello Everyone, I would like to know what is the difference between Elemental System, Global System, Analysis System. I am interested in this since hypermesh allows to extract (strains,stress,element forces etc) from each of these systems. I regularly use the one that is by default "Element system" but I want to understand what is the difference between them and what can I obtain different of each of them. Thank you for your time!

  10. Hello everyone, I'm trying to set up a direct transient analysis of the beam you see in the picture below (simplified geometry): The beam is meshed with tetra elements. On top the beam is constrained in all dof. In the middle of the beam is a hump and the mass of it has an influence on the eigenfrequency of the beam. At the lower end of the beam a periodically enforced displacement in the range of the eigenfrequency (3 kHz < f < 4 kHz) of the beam is applied. With the FE analysis I want to get information about the following questions: What is the stress at the top of the beam? Later I would like to get information about fatigue. What is the eigefrequency of the beam? What is the exact displacement of the hump in the middle of the beam when a certain displacement is applied at the lower end with its eigenfrequency? So far I've tried to adapt the tutorial "OS-T: 1310 Direct Transient Dynamic Analysis of a BracketOS" to my purposes but I have problems with applying the periodically enforced displacement. Can someone tell me what the best way is to realize this problem with optistruct?   12. Hello, I have a simple question: While selecting boundary conditions I have the option to select SPC or SPCD? What are the differences between them? I have used SPC to force initial displacement or rotations of nodes. What makes SPCD special? what can i do with them. <Thanks in advance!
  13. Hi, Is it possible in Optistruct to optimize a model and then afterwards analyze it for certain stresses? (run optimization and then run analysis on the optimized shape) I have created a shape with certain forces and stresses and optimized it successfully for minimum compliance & constrained volume, but I would like to analyze the optimized shape for stresses in several different locations of the shape.
