  1. Hi, i built a model with Laminates, so how can i see my stresses in the plies. I want to know my stress in the facesheets and the honeycomb plie. Thanks for answering, hubéry10

  3. Hello again, since I have not received any answer, I have to repost this. I got a problem with my plies. I got a flange in my model where two face meet each other and combine to one. I want to use only one laminate, but I don't know how I can realize it. As you see in the picture, the plies are stacked only in direction of the normal. I got three faces, which I combined to sets: Inside (left side of the picture), outside (right side of the picture) and the flange. As elements for the plies I chose inside + flange on one hand, on the otherside I chose outside + flange meaning the flange should have the exact same structure as the inside and outside face, there should only be a 90 degree ply (dark blue) dividing them. I only want to use one laminate and one property. Is there any possibility to realize that? I tried to change it with the normals and z0 options, but it did not work. I hope I could explain it in an understandable way. If you need any other informations, please ask. Kind regards, Konstantin Heiss
  4. Hello Altair Community! I would like to model a so called "bighead" insert which is laminated between the plies of a composite plate. I want to simulate the rip out and measure the force etc. So how can I model properly this problem? I attached an image where you can see how I want to model this insert. Should I use solid or shell element? If I use ply-based modeling I can not find a way to model a bighead between plies. Thank you for your answer in advance!

  6. Hello everybody, I'm not entirely new to FEA analysis but I'm struggling with Optistruct at the moment. I have a Formula Student Monocoque which I am trying to optimize to work with unidirectional carbon. I'm trying to create an optimum lay-up that's as light a possible while being as stiff aswell. I followed the guide "tutorial composite optimization with optistruct 11.0 on the example of a formula student monocoque" to the letter but somehow the Optistruct Optimization creates almost 1300 plies... Which is is impossible to manually adjust the zones... Could somebody have a clue what's going on here? Maybe I'm doing something wrong in the OptiStruct settings?   7. Hello, How can I make the number of plies as the variable rather than the thickness of the ply, since the ply thickness has to be 0.2 mm, and the number of layers can change. And I see that there is nothing like manufacturing thickness when I connect HyperWorks to HyperStudy. I'm using GA as solving algorithm. Thank you.

Hi there, I have tow questions concerning the display of results with composites. 1) I would like to use the Systems Review Dialog to check the orientations of single plies in my composite model (modelled ply based for Optistruct with PCOMPP property). As you can see in the attached picture the single plies are not available for selection in the Systems Review Dialog even though they are available as layers in the contour plot menu. In the documantation for HyperView it is stated: "For reviewing 1D Elemental, Ply, and Material systems, the Advanced Result Math template must be selected in the Load Model panel when initially loading the model and result file. In addition, a solver input deck is also required as the model file." I Use the advanced math template and in the Load Model panel I only can select two files (load model (*.hm), load results(*.h3d)). How can I add the solver input deck (.*fem)? Or do I need to change other settings? 2) In an Altair webinar video (see min 19:56 in https://altair-2.wistia.com/medias/zqn515pj8i ) I have seen that composite stresses can be displayed as tensor. With my seetings they are only available as scalar values. How can I display them as a tensor according to the video?
