  1. I need to define a response to sum up the stress values of all the elements in a component. What is the best way to do it? How the design equation should be defined? Thanks, Soraya
  2. Hi, everyone I am a newbie in hpermesh. As you can see in the picture, I have apply the load to the model. But now I want to know how much force I apply that the model will get the specific stress. So the problems I met are: 1. how to make force as response 2. how to add this specific stress (I guess maybe is the static stress=specific value) I don't know if this is possible. Hello All, I created simple cylindrical shell with a hole at the center and i wanna make this shell stiffer by adding ribs on its surface thus i need to perform topography optimization in order to get ribs configuration and i did as you can see in attached picture. But after i added ribs(stiffeners) to base model and run it under the linear buckling loading , i came up with less critical load than i got from the model without any ribs so i am confused now how it could be possible. I picked objective is to minimize response which was "buckling" is there anyone knows what could be the correct objective to get correct ribs configuration? Aim is to make more stiffener structure under the linear buckling loading.
  4. How to perform simulation (Nastran) on a system by applying a sinusoidal load of 0.1g which swept from 10-50 Hz which varies at rate of 1Hz/min ??? How to use the Time domain in solver deck? In Modal Frequency Response i don't use varying rate (1 Hz/min) . So please let me know how to apply the time here.....!!!
  5. Hello, I have a doubt, and I was wondering if someone here could help. I am setting up a Direct Frequency Response Analysis, and I want to set an oscillating load. I've read the documentation and some tutorials, however, I can't find the solution. The load I want to apply is: force (time)=A+B*cos(wt) A and B are constants, and w is the angular frequency. If A=0, the proccess would be (I think): - Set a unit load in the given direction, with load type DAREA, and magnitude 1. - Set a TableD1 load collector, with a range of frequencies and y=B - Set Freqi and Rload2 load collectors, and a freq resp (direct) loadstep accordingly. (I would be grateful if someone can confirm that is correct) However, when A is not zero, I have no idea what I should do. One more thing, is there a way to view the applied load in Hyperview? If there was, I could see for myself what I am doing. EDIT: I think I found a way to do this, with the global output request OLOAD, not sure it it'll work though.   7. Hi, I´m writing my bachelor thesis at the moment and got some trouble while setting up the optimization problem. I want to add a static displacement constraint, but hypermesh displays the error message "Selected subcase (XYZ) is not compatible with the type of response" when I try to set an upper bound using the dcontraints panel for the static displacement response I created before. The Model got 4 Load Steps of the type "Linear Static". It is meshed with Hexa-Elements. Furthermore it uses bolt pretension, CBEAM and RBE2 Elements. For contactmodeling I only use FREEZE and SLIDE. Are there any incompabilities with repect to my FEM Setup or has anyone an idea why this error message is displayed? I have never had such a problem before. If I only run the analysis, there are no problems and the model behaves as expected. Maik
  8. Hi All, I have been using Nastran as my solver for Hyperstudy and it works well till the execution of my simulation. But HyperStudy has to wait for some time till the simulation is complete before it starts extracting the responses. I know that I need to write some script which checks whether there are no errors in the simulation and then extract the data. Has anyone come across this and can you let me know how we can script this?
  9. Hello, as suggested in another thread in this Forum, i tried the usage of dresp3-Card. What i want to do: - let excel calculate the tresca-stress (Input: max principle, min principle, output: stress (=difference between both input variables). - get the tresca stress back and use it for an "minmax-" or "min-objective" in optimisation What i wrote until today: LOADLIB DRESP3 GR01 tresca.xlsx $solid DRESP1 1 MAX_PR1 STRESS PSOLID SMAP DRESP1 1 MAX_PR3 STRESS PSOLID SMIP DRESP3 20 TRESCA GR01 MYFUNC 1 2 + DRESP1 1 2 + CELLIN C2 C3 + CELOUT D1 I also use a small excel-file, which calculates the difference beween "cell C2" and "cell C3" in "cell D1". Questions: - would it work like that ? (I can't test it at the moment) - What do I get with the DRESP1 / DRESP3 ? When using DRESP1 with "ELEM" and enter an element-ID, it would give ONE value to the excel-file, which seems to be pretty clear. But when I use PSOLID as the PTYPE, there might be hundrets or thousands of values (here: principal stresses). At that point I do not understand my own programmed code.. Maybe someone can help? I read the Tutorial OS-4095 and also a lot of manual pages. Thanks a lot
  10. Hi, After doing the HyperMesh morphing tutorials and the Optistruct shape optimization tutorials, I created a shape optimization file on my own. It consists of a cylindrical cantilever which is loaded sideways at the free end. The goal is to find an optimized cross section. The inner part remains unchanged, for the outer part (connected using equivalence) three different shapes are defined (elliptical morphing along x, along y and circular stretching). When minimizing the volume of the cantilever while limiting the stress in z-direction, the expected elliptical cross section results and the optimization constraint is fulfilled: Shape_opt_stress_constr.hm When limiting the displacement in load direction at the end of the cantilever, the cross section shrinks to a circle of minimum diameter and the displacement is much larger than the specified 0.15. Shape_opt_disp_constr.hm Isn't it possible to use displacement dconstraints for shape optimization? The solver (Optistruct) doesn't recognise the constraint violation and minimizes the volume to the extreme, leading to very high displacements. Thanks in advance for any inputs.
  11. Hello, I am using Optistruct to numerically calculate some FRFs. I have test data to validate my numerical results. Measured test data is an FRF data in the form of Inertance (acceleration/force). I see that there is a big gap in frequency components' amplitudes between the measured data and numerically calculated data, though calculated and measured natural frequencies align very well. I have followed the modal frequency response tutorial and nowhere in the tutorial is it shown that we're specifically selecting the type of FRF we're wanting (e.g. inertance or mobility or receptance). GLOBAL_OUTPUT_REQUEST is used with DISPLACEMENT enabled and that makes me think that, what I am calculating in Optistruct is Receptance and not Inertance. I tried to request ACCELERATION instead of DISPLACEMENT, but ACCELERATION doesn't let me select the output node set which I used for DISPLACEMENT. How can I make sure in Optistruct that the numerical data I'm getting is inertance and not mobility (velocity/force) or receptance (displacement/force)? Best regards

Hello every one, I am looking how to have the output ".disp" in the direct transient dynamic analysis, in the tutorials they just show how to have this output in the direct frequency response analysis, I did the same steps in the transient analysis and it gives me something witch is not that good as I did configure my simulation (yeah I guess): The step that I used is 0.005s and in the ".disp" the step is about 4.9s.
