  1. Hello, i'm new to Hypermesh but i need to solve a problem which mush be very simple for a veteran user. I just need help on how to make a simple batch script that given and input file containing triangle surface mesh of a solid, output the entire tetra volume mesh of that solid. I'd like to do that from shell without using any gui. That's it! I would really appreciate any help. P.S. Could you please include which file format it accept as input and which as output? Thank you for your time.
  2. Hi, I've previously had help from one of your colleagues with my model for which they suggested I do a Mesh-->Check--> Elements-->Penetration as I had a problem with my slide contact surfaces. I fixed the majority of these penetrations with the auto manager (not all were fixed) and tried to relaunch the calculation. However, now my model does not manage to converge and I don't fully understand why, even after reading up on all of the input fields in the contact menu. Any help would be greatly appreciated (model is attached)! Thanks in advance. 151207_MD_01_A-42.hm
  3. Hi, I'm trying to refine a tetra mesh around a bolt hole after a topology optimization. OSSmooth only returns a mesh so I don't have any geometry, only tetra elements. I've tried using split elements but it doesn't seem to do anything as well as refine elements which apparently only works on shell elements. Any suggestions?
  4. Hi all, I started with 2nd order tetra meshing (Tetra10 or configuration 210) in batch mode i.e. writing tcl script employing Tcl commands for meshing a CATIA solid geometry. Unfortunately, it seems that it is not possible to set criteria and parameters for 3D meshing (e.g. tetra meshing), and even if the criteria file and parameter file is used (which only provides options for tria and quad elements), it doesn't affect the Tetra mesh quality and only the surface mesh is monitored by criteria and parameter files. I am creating Tetra elements by two methods: 1. Directly meshing the solids with Tetra10 elements 2. First creating a skin of Tria6 elements and then creating Tetra10 elements from this skin mesh. I used the *tetmesh command with suitably selected parameters, so that I can get a nice mesh (with minimum distortion) but finally NASTRAN found that there are some tetra elements with very low internal angles and it marks these elements as "FAILED" elements and stops the analysis. I checked the quality parameters for 3D elements (short key: F10), and found that many elements simply fail, and are well far away from the limits e.g. max. size, min size, entered in the tcl script. Is there any proper way to force HM to respect the limits of 3D mesh properties??
  5. Dear sir/ Ma'am, 1) I have a 3D model for which I wish to do Hex meshing. I have divided my model in several parts and I could hex mesh some of them. But since I am not able to hex mesh all of them I want to go with a mixed meshing i.e., tetra meshing for the remaining parts. May somebody please tell me the way to achieve what I am wishing to do? [Please tell me the path to the suggested options in the hypermesh] I could have meshed my model completely with the 2nd order tetras but I want to have hex elements at the contacts. 2) Please, also tell me if there is any problem in using mixed (hex-pent- tetra) meshing in the transient (explicit) analysis. What type of elements (including for 2d meshing) are suggested for a transient structural analysis of a large assembly (also for the individual components) having loads applied for milliseconds? [It's not the case of crash analysis] Thank you in advance!
  6. Hi All, I made a mesh using volume tetra and I want to further refine it. How do I use the tetra mesh parameters menu to do this (assuming this is the way to do this)? One of my main goals is to add more layers of elements through the thickness of the whole part, so I thought I could use the "Number of layers" option, and then chose a refinement box that is bigger that my part (i.e. that it encloses my part), and then I thought the next step would be using the tetra remesh menu to remesh everything, but this workflow is not working. I'm probably not using menus within the tretra mesh panel correctly, so what exactly is the workflow of tetra mesh refining other than using proximity and curvature in the volume tetra menu? One aspect that confuses me in the tetra mesh parameters menu is that it only asks for a refinement box: but once I choose my parameters and my refinement box, how to I "apply" this this refinement? Again, my goal is to add more elements through the thickness of my part, which why I specified number of layers = 4. thanks!
  7. I have a component meshed with different elements (Hexa, Penta and tetra). The problem I am facing is while defining the element formulation of the component. How one can define element formulation in such case? The problem is the same for the case of 2D plates when we encounter quad and tri elements in a component. I also searched the answer for this in the book "Practical aspects of FEA" but couldn't find it. Please guide me through the problem.
  8. Hi all, I have a question after reading the documentation: for tetra meshing using tcl command *tetmesh the script needs to use strings containing various mesh controls and parameters, e.g. "tet: ...", "2d: ...", "size_ctrl: ...", and "pars: ..." I am using following parameters in the last string "pars": "pars: vol_skew=0.8 tet_clps=0.2 aspect=6 Skew=30 vol_ar=5" However, when I run the script, Hypermesh simply fails to recognize this string, and terminates *createstringarray 2 "tet: 35 $growth_rate 2 $max_size 0.8 2 0" "2d: $elem_order $elem_type 1 $elem_size_2d $min_size_2d 30 1" "pars: vol_skew=0.8 tet_clps=0.2 aspect=6 Skew=30 vol_ar=5" *tetmesh solids 1 0 elements 0 -1 1 3 For further reference kindly see the online documentation about tetmesh: http://www.altairhyperworks.com/hwhelp/Altair/hw12.0/help//hwdref/hwdref.htm?_tetmesh.htm Anyone with some hints to the reasons for failure of this string, kindly help. Best regards, Mubeen.
