  1. Good morning, I'm running a transient analysis of 2 gears (one of them with a preload and the other one with an imposed rotation). When I run it with Optistruct I get 2 problems: *** ERROR # 4965 *** Maximum number of time increment cutbacks reached, analysis aborted. The biggest problem comes here, if I analysis the results, the contact status is 0 everytime. The gears rotate but they don't seem to have a good contact. Moreover, I get high normal contact forces at points where there should be any contact (see image attached). I also attach the .fem to make it quicker and the .out from the previous simulation Thanks!! 1107rem.out 1207manana.fem

  3. Hello everyone, I'm trying to set up a direct transient analysis of the beam you see in the picture below (simplified geometry): The beam is meshed with tetra elements. On top the beam is constrained in all dof. In the middle of the beam is a hump and the mass of it has an influence on the eigenfrequency of the beam. At the lower end of the beam a periodically enforced displacement in the range of the eigenfrequency (3 kHz < f < 4 kHz) of the beam is applied. With the FE analysis I want to get information about the following questions: What is the stress at the top of the beam? Later I would like to get information about fatigue. What is the eigefrequency of the beam? What is the exact displacement of the hump in the middle of the beam when a certain displacement is applied at the lower end with its eigenfrequency? So far I've tried to adapt the tutorial "OS-T: 1310 Direct Transient Dynamic Analysis of a BracketOS" to my purposes but I have problems with applying the periodically enforced displacement. Can someone tell me what the best way is to realize this problem with optistruct?   5. Hello, I am trying to figure out how to model the heat generation on a brake rotor during braking using Optistruct. Are there any guides that describe this process or something similar to this? How would you approach this? The total energy of the system is known and will be evenly distributed over three brake rotors to stop the vehicle in a given time. Now, I need to model the maximum temperature reached.
  6. Hello, in my analysis of a curve-drive-part is a rotation as SPC, solids for the curve-part (red) and a rigid-spider (blue) to transfer the rotation displacement to the solids. I use an NLGEOM-analysis, because i want to simulate the contact between the other parts (not in picture) and the curve-part. In this analysis the curve-part shows a strange deformation and the contact force is going very high. There is no constraint or force, that explained the deformation. Attached filses: Topf_Start_1 - front view with a distance measure of 211.666 Topf_Start_2 - side view Topf_End_1 - front with a distance measure of 201.110 Topf_End_2 - side view It is a model in optistruct, but for the solving is radioss used, because the large sliding contact.   8. Hi All, I have a question involving the HyperMesh preprocessor. I'm trying to run a transient thermal analysis, where there is a consistent base boundary condition, and convection is applied, but only after a delay. I'm having a hard time figuring out how to apply convection partway through the analysis. For example, I'm allowing the part to heat for 25 seconds, and then turning a fan on and blowing on it for the last 25. I have my TLOAD1, TABLED1, SPCD, and SPC collectors for convection, but I can't figure out how to apply this delay. I tried setting the TABLED1 value to 0 for the first 25 seconds, but that just sets temperature to zero I believe. I imagine the DELAY_OPTION would be helpful, but I don't know how. Thanks very much for any help you can provide.
  9. How to perform simulation (Nastran) on a system by applying a sinusoidal load of 0.1g which swept from 10-50 Hz which varies at rate of 1Hz/min ??? How to use the Time domain in solver deck? In Modal Frequency Response i don't use varying rate (1 Hz/min) . So please let me know how to apply the time here.....!!!
  10. I am running a transient dynamic solution with enforce displacement. Is that possible that i am able to run my solution for 3 second with bigger timestep and then finer timestep for the next 3 second?

  12. To evaluate the response of a structure submitted to a periodic sine wave force in the time domain, can I define the OptiStruct loadstep as "transient direct"? Does "transient direct" and "transient modal" differ in computational cost only?
  13. Hi, I need to resolve a transient(direct) analysis on my model. There are 8 different imported load that I merged into 1 with a LOADADD card, then I create a TABLED1. Now I need to create a TLOAD1 to give the forces a time dependence function. the problem is that TLOAD1 field "EXCITEID cannot reference the LOAD and LOADADD Bulk Data Entries". How can I resolve a transient analysis having more than 1 load? Thanks for the help!

  15. Hi I have a connecting rod that is subjected to two loads, Tensile (Admission phase) and Compression (Combustion phase). Both loads have TLOAD2 as their card image and hence each of them have their own loadstep. When observing the results, i would like to see both loadsteps one after another eg: t1 : Combustion , t2 : Admission, t3 : Combustion , t4 : Admission...... I have derived both results together but it showed me the combustion results first then after t500 only it will show admission. Is there anyway to correct this? Regards.

Hello every one, I am looking how to have the output ".disp" in the direct transient dynamic analysis, in the tutorials they just show how to have this output in the direct frequency response analysis, I did the same steps in the transient analysis and it gives me something witch is not that good as I did configure my simulation (yeah I guess): The step that I used is 0.005s and in the ".disp" the step is about 4.9s.
