  1. Hello! I want to measure the volume of a solid. I know I can find this in Tool --> Mass Calc I am interested in measuring the volume with more numerical precicion. Is there a way of increasing this? For example i would like to read more numbers beyond 2.781 as the image shows. Thank you
  2. Hi, The basic problem here is that we have a solid that contains a closed hole inside it. We have all the surface meshed in 2d mesh. When we are trying to create the 3D mesh. Hypermesh does not recognize the outside volume. It only recognizes the inside hole and meshes it as a solid. I have two basic ways to bypass that problem. 1) Use the volume meshing instead of "2d meshing and then 3d meshing". 2) Add a tiny little hole in the original volume to make the inside hole not closed anymore. I am wondering what are the reasons that causing that problem? How does hypermesh define the geometry? (I am always wondering why we can release the points in hypermesh) And are there any other more solutions to the problem?
  3. Hi, how do I convert tria shell elements to quad shell elements of an entire assembly (enclosed for volume creation) ? I want the shell to be quad and I would like to use split quads into trias for my tetra volume generation. But at the moment I have trias in my shell elements which is unfortunate and would like to convert it to quad without beginning from scratch again which is time consuming. thanks.
  4. Hello, I am running a topology optimisation using Optistruct. I am trying to look at the key structural members of an aerospace component. I am attempting to use a low volume fraction of ~3-6%. When the volume fraction is particularly low does this effect the solver's ability to converge? Thank you in advance

Dear all, I am working as NVH engineer. in our case , we use terta solid mesh. my process : first we will make tria mesh and then we will convert into tetra mesh using ( 3D--> Tetramesh--> tetra mesh --> fixed trais/quads to tetra mesh --> simple pyramid --> create per-volume comps --> create. Then the tetramesh will create in a component vol001 ( name of the newly created component). so i need to delete the 2d mesh component and also again i have to rename the component . so i want to simplify my process. i want to create TETRA MESH (3D) in same component where the TRIA elements (2D) are present. but by deleting the 2D tria elements (automatically) during the tetra-mesh conversation process. ??? IS THIS POSSIBLE ? please give your suggestion. so that i can save some time. becoz for every item i need to rename for more than 50 components. thank you.
  6. Hello, i'm new to Hypermesh but i need to solve a problem which mush be very simple for a veteran user. I just need help on how to make a simple batch script that given and input file containing triangle surface mesh of a solid, output the entire tetra volume mesh of that solid. I'd like to do that from shell without using any gui. That's it! I would really appreciate any help. P.S. Could you please include which file format it accept as input and which as output? Thank you for your time.
  7. Hey Guy, hope you can help me I got a quick question about meshing a volume. Think about a cube with equal face sizes. Now I want to mesh this thing with a "Quads only" mesh. Important is that the mesh becomes finer and finer to the middle point of the volume. Is there any easy way without Splitting up the cube? I already tried to split up the cube and use the bias function on the edge of every quater of the cube. Unfortunately the results of my Simulation were quite bad. PS: I'm simulating some electromagnetic Problems an I want good results near the coil in the middle. Thank you guys!
  8. Hello! Is there a way to see what is the exact volume of the topology optimized model? There is the option with Tool > masscalc, but there it shows only the volume of the origin model without the toplogy optimized geometry. Please correct me if I am wrong. Can it be seen in the .OUT file or in the .H3D file? Would it be possible to plot the volume as a function of the iteration steps? Thank you in advance for your help!
  9. Hello, I wanted to know how Radioss calculates at every time step the volume of a monitored volume, i did not find the answer in the theory manual. I'm using four monitored volumes type COMMU1, comunicated by dummy surfaces, but the geometriy is a little bit complex and during the simulation, the common surfaces are sometimes outside the monitored volumes as you can see in the image, the green surface on the top. How this impact What would be the difference between using multiple monitored volumes COMMU1 and only one monitored volume type AIRBAG? Thank you

  11. Hi, I am trying to run a model which simulates that of a cantilever beam with circular cuts designed into it at regular intervals. I have a force load applying in compression along the top edge of the beam and would like to perform a shape optimization of the circular cuts while maintaining constant volume of the model under a minimizing compliance (maximizing stiffness) objective. I've tried it a few different ways but can't get the model to converge after more than two iterations (the optimization isn't progressing very far most likely due to the strict volume constraints. So what I would like to know is if it is possible to perform a shape optimization while maintaining constant volume of the model. I understand that this may be a difficult problem for the solver as I'm asking it to make changes while perhaps not giving it room to work with. If an upper and lower bound constraint of the original volume is too tight of a constraint, how loose do I have to make the constraint to allow for a reasonable shape optimization to be performed while maintaining (mostly) a constant total volume? Thanks for your input! I've attached the .HM file as well if you would prefer to take a closer look at the problem setup and optimization parameters.   13. I see that you can select different target percentages for the design space before an optimisation run begins. I also see that you can select different target percentages for the design space after the run is completed. Does selecting the percentage before or after the topology optimisation change the results significantly? What I am asking is, does it matter when I select the design space target percentage?
  14. Hi, is it possible to add the center of gravity and mass moment of inertia as information to the .out file? In my .out file only volume and total mass fo the model are output. Unfortunately - still after thorough checks - there is a mismatch between the volume and total mass which is computed via summary/moment of inertia template and the value in the .out file. That is why I expect a mismatch for the mass moment of inertia and center of gravity as well. Kind regards
