Selected subcase is not compatible with the type of response

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I´m writing my bachelor thesis at the moment and got some trouble while setting up the optimization problem. I want to add a static displacement constraint, but hypermesh displays the error message "Selected subcase (XYZ) is not compatible with the type of response" when I try to set an upper bound using the dcontraints panel for the static displacement response I created before.

The Model got 4 Load Steps of the type "Linear Static". It is meshed with Hexa-Elements. Furthermore it uses bolt pretension, CBEAM and RBE2 Elements. For contactmodeling I only use FREEZE and SLIDE.

Are there any incompabilities with repect to my FEM Setup or has anyone an idea why this error message is displayed? I have never had such a problem before.

If I only run the analysis, there are no problems and the model behaves as expected.

I found the problem. I set up the FEM using the Entities-Windows (right-mouse button--> create -->Load Step). When I use the Analysis-Panel, there are no probelms to define static displacement constraints. It seems as if there is a bug in the HW 13.0 version.

Yes this is correct!

I am working on my Master Thesis on composites and use the same version 13.0 and when I try to create Load steps from the Model Browser by right click in the model browser and create Load step I get an error of "Selected subcase (XYZ) is not compatible with the type of response" . If I create the same Load Step from the Analysis panel the error does not occur.

Hope that is is fixed on the new version.

Hello all,

I tried to complete the OS-5090: Thermal Optimization on Aluminum Fins tutorial and, after carefully following all the steps, when I try to create my response I get the same error. I have tried, as you suggested, deleting the load step and creating on from the analysis tab but I has not worked either. Is there anything wrong with the input model or any other way to work around this problem?

I am working with the 14 version, with the latest update and hotfix. Has this problem been corrected in the 2017 version?

Thanks a lot.

Hi MMarzana,

Follow these steps and try again:

1) Create Load step from Analysis>>LoadStep

2) Create response from Analysis>>Optimization>>Responses and refer load step if required

Run the analysis and check again.

Hi Prakash,

I have tried that and I got the same error. I cannot run the analysis as I do not have an objective function for the optimization. The load step is of the type heat transfer and the response of the type temperature so in my opinion they should be compatible.

HI @MMarzana

You need to define an objective function to run the optimization.

I am able to run analysis without any issues. Create an objective function and you can run optimization.

The problem comes when trying to define the objective function. When I select the design variable temperature and the load step heat transfer and click on create, I get the non-compatibility error and no objective function is created.

Hi @MMarzana,

Sorry for a late reply.

There is a small bug which does not allow to create a constraint directly when using Temperature as response. But you can create using Optimization view Browser. I am attaching a video for your reference, :)

Hello Prakash,

I am trying to create objective function as suggested by you but still I am facing the issue of selected subcase (heat transfer)  is not compatible with type of response. I am working on the tutorial

OS-5090: Thermal Optimization on Aluminum Fins

Can you please let me know how can I fix it. I am with Student version 17

Thanks,

Hi Prakash,

Thanks for the video, it is working. I have a question, when I tried to run optimization the error generated is

"CHBDYE can't be applied in topology or free-size design domain. CHBDYE surface element 13751 is applied to topology or free-size design element 1420"

I am very new to Hypermesh and trying to learn. Can you please help me out here to fix the issue. Attached is the file. If possible can you please share a video guide of where I am doing mistake an dhow to fix it.

Thanks.

Hi Darshan,

CHBDYE cannot be in design space. You may have to move the elements which has CHBDYE to non-design space.

Hi Prakash,

Thank you. I move my Heat Flux input elements to non design space. The new errors pop up as "*** ERROR # 1000 *** in the input data:
Incorrect data in field # 3."

Thanks,

Hi Darshan,

Try this method:

Hello Prakash,

I was using your suggested method to fix this error but am being unable to create and edit the objective in the tree to the left. It always opens the 'Create Objective' panel in the bottom. Could you please take a look and let me know what you think? I am using Altair HyperWorks v14.0 Release.
