Andy@LamteqSolutions 3 Report post Posted February 9, 2017 Hello, I am trying to utilize hyperstudy to optimize a bespoke shell section Beam. Essentially the beam is a hollow I-section but we would like to use hyperstudy to parameterize the thickness. Is this possible? The solver we are using is Optistruct. Andy@LamteqSolutions 3 Report post Posted February 10, 2017 Many thanks, however this example refers to a default optistruct beam section (the dimensions are stated in the property card as opposed to inertia and area values)... we have a user defined shell/thin walled section like that attached below. We'd like to vary the circled thickness or even the shape of the section. Any thoughts?
Rahul R 316 Report post Posted February 13, 2017 what problem you are facing with Shell section approach? Also it can done via 2D shell element.
Andy@LamteqSolutions 3 Report post Posted February 13, 2017 Hello, The issue we are facing is that with the Hyperstudy we cannot assign a parameter to vary the part thickness. You see when the section is defined, the hypermesh generates the sectional properties in terms of moments of inertia and area - it does not specify the section shape in the properties card unlike the Optistruct generic sections. The part we are assessing is as the image above so it does not fall into any of the generic sections available. We have a simple workaround at the moment which is to vary the moment of inertia and area using the link variables options - assigning simple formulae to calculate these values, however it would be nicer if we could just vary thickness and section dimensions. NilsJonnerby 0 Report post Posted March 20, 2018 Hi, I have a similar problem. I would like to use the parameters used in HyperBeam for the definition of a cross section as Design Variables in HyperStudy. Is it possible to use HyperBeams parameters as variables in HyperStudy? Rahul R 316 Report post Posted March 21, 2018 Did you try with parametrization option? Please refer below online tutorial step 1 to have required parameter as DV. HS-4200: Material Calibration Using System Identification
NilsJonnerby 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2018 Dear, Rahul I have tried that and it works well, even though it is a bit time consuming. But I would also like to have the thicknesses of some 3-layered PCOMP property cards varied. These may be imported through the .hm file option when choosing Model to work with. But with this option am I not able to import the properties of the HyperBeam sections. And the thicknesses in PCOMP may not be individually parameterized with the template editor tool. How would I be able to have them both parameterized through the editor tool? Best Regards Nils
NilsJonnerby 0 Report post Posted March 26, 2018 Nevermind my previous post. It is possible, I misinterpreted the format of the PCOMP. Thanks Nils
