What is the mathematical definition of the strain_rate_invariant_2 quantity that AcuSolve exports?

Recommended Posts

The strain_rate_invariant_2 (I_2) is defined as follows:

I_2 = 2*Delta_s(Velocity):Delta_s(Velocity)

Delta_s denotes the symmetric gradient operator and ":" is tensor contraction.

To obtain the magnitude of the strain rate, the square root of the strain_rate_invariant_2 should be used.
