2D meshing thickness variations along features

Hi all,

While assigning thickness in 2D meshing ,why the thickness variation along features like ribs in plastic parts should be generally in 0.2 mm or more range .What is the technical reason behind this?

Plastic parts could have uniform or varying thickness.It depends upon the application where part is going to use.

Hypermesh allows you to enter uniform or varying thickness using property card.Let us know if you are in search of any automatic method for assigning variable thickness on rib or any part.

Hi,

 

I need some guidance regarding plastic mesh of some complex component..Am doing it manually using surface pair, mid line , offset options..Is there any reference model which have been done already..i just need  any plastic CAD model before  and after midsurface extraction for reference purpose..

Hi @Rahul R

I know changing nodal thickness by card edit of shell. "Varying thickness using property card" can you please elaborate this?

Can Anyone enlighten me with this varying thickness using property card (Apart from nodal thickness)?

Hello,

 

First you need to extract the midsurface

 

Then you can use any of the following option

 

1)Create Different properties

 

You can organize the elements of different thickness in different components. then respectively create properties for them with the correct thickness and then assign them.

 

2)Utility menu>Geometry mesh>midsurface thickness

 

This option will consider the existing elements for assigning the thickness. Here you are allowed to do the surface editing. But the surface which you are meshing should be extracted mid surface of the required Geometry.

 

3) Menu>>Assign>>Midmesh Thickness

This is the best option as you can select the elements and apply the thickness.
