tet10 mesh in LS-Dyna

Recommended Posts

Hi

I mesh my geometry with hypermesh and use LS-dyna as a FE solver.

When I created tet10 mesh in hypermesh and looked at the element summary, it said

" TETRA10 ELEMENTS NOT SUPPORTED in LS-DYNA template.

These elements will not be exported."

I would like to confirm that if I need to export tet4 mesh and convert them into tet10 in LS-prepost.

Does anyone know about the problem?

I would appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Jay

Hi,

i think LSDyna can't read TET10 elements. Normaly you never use elements of second order (for explicit solution).

In LSDyna there is no direct *ELEMENT_SOLID for Tetra 10 elements. Instead there is a option: *ELEMENT_SOLID_TET4TOTET10, which generate TET10 from TET4 elements.

This is also supported from Hypermesh. (Card Editor->Options)

Hi,

it is a question of the solution type. Since "crash" solver are using explicit time integration schemes, they are dependent on simple and fast element descriptions (that the reason for using under integrated elements, instead of fully (sometime used) or second order).

Please inform yourself on the internet about the differences of explicit vs implicit solutions. It's too much and too difficult to perform all here.

Mario

Hi,

it's written in my former post.

You can change it in Card Editor->element->options (triangle)->TET4TOTET10
