Aircraft Wing optimization

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Does anyone have any tips on how to go about optimising the internal structure of an aircraft wing? I am a very new user to Hypermesh.

 Thanks.

Hi,

Could you please share more details?

What type of optimization are you interested in?.

Here is a tutorial: OS-4070: Free-sizing Nonlinear Gap Optimization on an Airplane Wing Rib

If you share more details, we can help you in right direction.

Here are few case studies which you might be interested in: http://web2.altairhyperworks.com/taking-500kg-from-the-airbus-a380

Hi,

I would like to carry out topology optimization on the wing rib that takes the shape of the airfoil to obtain results like the one depicted in the attached image (obtained from http://web.aeromech.usyd.edu.au/WCSMO2015/papers/1218_paper.pdf). However, i am not sure how to define the varying pressure magnitude (and other loads) acting on the airfoil along the chord length. Is there anyway to import a data file detailing the magnitude at specific positions of airfoil?

Thanks.

Hi,

You can use field loads in Pressure panel:

1. Go to Analysis: Pressures and select the first element. Using constant vector create a pressure of lower value.
2. Repeat the above process for the last element and create pressure of larger value.
3. Now change the option to field load. Select the first load and the last load
4. Select the elements in between.
5. Click on create
