Problem of mesh Refining

Hello Everybody,

To verify the results and to check the mesh quality, one method we use is to refine the mesh and check the results. To increase the mesh density, isn't it that we have to re-mesh the model again ?

Particularly for the case of analysis of large assemblies, the task may become a cumbersome one. And for the case of explicit analysis it becomes worse since we also need to take care of the time step. Then how is it possible to refine the mesh with least possible efforts? Please guide.

Hi,

The convergence study can enable users to obtain an accurate solution with a mesh that is sufficiently dense and not overly demanding of computing resources. The problem with this method is that it requires multiple remeshing and solving.  While this method is fine for simple models, it can be very time-consuming for complex models.

As a good practice create a good mesh that capture the geometry well, especially the critical regions.The “non-critical” regions can contain a coarse mesh which helps to reduce the total element count in the model.
