Optistruct Composite optimization to RADIOSS Failure Analysis

Hi there, i ran an composite optimization in Optistruct and now i want to analyse if the Geometry fails in RADIOSS because the Failure Criterion (PUCK) isn't available in optistruct. Anybody knows how to do that?

In theory the following should work.


After the optimization run you reload your model into Hypermesh and apply the resulting topology (whatever the optimization gave out, e.g. thicknesses).


To apply the results you need to go to the POST tab and OSSmooth i think. It has been a while since i last used it but you will figure that part out..


Lastly go to "Tools", from the main menu on the top "Convert" -> "Optistruct" -> "to RADIOSS (Block format)". From then i guess you know what to do.

ok i think i have to run the optimization again to get the grid file!?


 


and this i the step to transfer the geometry from optistruct to radioss block, right?


 


but how the do the puck-analysis? i couldn't find any literatur or tutorials on that topic.


 


EDIT: I chose "GRID" as an output Control Card but didnt get a .grid file. is there any other way to get it?

I remember having similar problems with the GRID file, but unfortunately i have no idea how i got over it.. Sorry.


As far as the puck-analysis, that is the easy part. First of all you need to make sure that the elements you are using, as well as the properties and materials are compatible with the puck failure criteria.

When you are ok with that, you go to Tools -> Create Cards -> Fail and select Puck. Finally you set the parameters and link the criteria to the material you are using.


On the Puck card (where you set the parameters) there is a field on the top called [Mat_Id], and that is how you link your material to the failure criteria.


You can apply up to 6 criteria at once on a specific material.
