TYPE7 contact energy include the energy about the tangential contact force?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

In radioss manual, there is a contact energy formulation.

This formulation considers normal force and tangential force? or only consider normal force?

What is the 'L' and 'n'??

Thanks

Hi,

 k= interface stiffness
g = contact gap thickness
p= penetration into the contact gap

Ln is  the natural logarithm.

We will improve the description in the theory manual.

Yes this is dealing with normal penetrations.  The contact energy output in Radioss also include the tangential frictional force but I don't have a formula for that calculation.  The best way to see if the contact energy is due to penetration or friction is to make FRIC=0 so there is no friction and rerun the model.

Thanks,

Andy
