Integration of Compose and Optistruct for optimization processes

Hello everyone,

 

I recently came across Compose, which I have no experience with at all so I do not know about the capabilities of the software.

 

Could anyone tell me whether is possible to use Compose to alter mechanical properties for an Optistruct optimization? I want to run a size optimization, however, the material I am considering changes the Young's modulus with thickness. So my idea is to use Compose to make the Young's modulus as a function of thickness.

Hello,

 

In OptiStruct material data can only be modified through cards DVMREL1 (linear) and DVMREL2 (equation). You should check whether DVMREL2 works, because it relates Design Variables to model material properties. Depending on how the thickness changes the Young's modulus, DVMREL2 probably solves your problem.

Hello Roberta, thank you for your response

 

I thought about writing a user-defined material but the card DVMREL2 seems to be a simpler/better solution. Would you have any materials or references on how to add/edit this card? I haven't found much information out there. 

 

Young's modulus would be dependent on the thickness of the plies through a rather simple equation.

I actually figured it out, thank you so much.

 

If anyone is interested, I only created the equation using DEQATN and then created DVMREL2 and called the equation and design variable ID in it.

 

All the process is done directly in the .fem file.
